Why are you blaming the third world countries for the problems of the West. The West is where we consume much more resources than the third world ever will. And isn't it us that destroy ecosystems just to get some paper to write on?ossama224
I'm not just blaming third world countries. This is a problem of humanity not of countries. Of course is not enough to deal with overpopulation there are other problems like distribution of resources that have to be dealt with in parallel but I think controlling population will help solve many of those problems too.

I'm an American. It's what we do. Stick our noses in things :P

You're right, it's not MY problem. But, it is a BIG probelm that could eventually affect everyone. THEN it would be my business.

Just as big a problem as the wests over consumpton of the worlds resources

Thanks for that statement that had absolutely...nothing to do with this topic.

"Apparently someexperts state thathuman growth is superexponential and at some point we will really run out of resources and hit a doomsday scenario" First sentence of tc post yes it is to do with the topic as the over consumption of resources by x% of the worlds population is jt as important

Google it. I'm not your source finder. I may have had my numbers a little high though. I've read numbers as low as 300 million to 500 million.

Either way, it did help some.

No. You're making the specific claim. It's not my task to support your claim.

Fine. Stay ignorant.

The chinese government says it prevented like 400 million births in 30 years. An independent study verifies it but says it is due to several factors not only the one-child policy but also to other policies to reduce population that were put forth before the one-child policy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-child_policy

Before calling me ignorant you need to educate yourself on a little concept known as "burden of proof".

Not if there was just a limit. Kind of like China.

Perhaps. If there's a choice, I would think it more honorable to impose laws on yourself before other people.

Sooo you're thinking that these third world countries are going to start reasoning with themselves and stop having children? Gimme a break.

That isn't the point. What's important is that we who can reason with ourselves do. It's as simple as that.

I just think it just needs to become more like China with the "only 1 child" rule. Not just Africa, everywhere else.

If the population really starts to become a problem, threatening the survival of the human species. Our governments will most likely start to sacrifice their citizens for the greater good.

i have read historians estimate 50-80 million native americans died by small pox and other new illnesses, weird that would be about half of the worlds population 80 years ago.... 400 years ago(yea i dont feel like doing math so no real thoughtful estimate on when here.)

The population of the United States was around that 80 years ago. The population of the world was over two billion at that point.

Well you can at least rest assured that one paranoid fantasy won't be tested; that disease, war, and poverty/starvation wouldn't do the job for them is a forgone conclusion. Still, I love that idea that governments would be able to do so, would, and would NEED to. IMO, this is an example of a paranoid fantasy actually being comforting compared to the grim reality, which is that bad **** doesn't actually need puppet masters to happen; it just DOES.

Apparently someexperts state thathuman growth is superexponential and at some point we will really run out of resources and hit a doomsday scenario. Regardless of whether or not this is true, the human population is really enormous and perhaps the world was never meant to accommodate this many of a particular species. Do you think mother nature will take matters into her own hands and thin us out with a plague? Are wars and conflicts inevitable? Some people feel that's a way of nature controlling population - that we are almost hard wired to get into conflicts. Or will we just keep breeding until the envirornment is trashed and cant support us?

I think right about now the best case scenario would be that somehow Africa just gets colonised again by europe and they put a ban on babys to stop the growth there and the richer european countries eventually build up the country again and look after it indefenetly.

While that is going on India and China have a huge war not using any nukes what so ever and just millions possibly billions die in the war.

As F%#$ED up as it seems i think that may work.

I would say no. Forcing one group of people to stop breeding is essentially genocide.

well considering the amount of them that are just going to die of starvtion and disease before their 8 years old i think it would be worth it until conditions over there are better. Thats not even mentioning the thousands of babys born with Aids and other diseases because of their parents.

Right... we're doing so well in our natural habitat that it's time to venture into a hard vacuum blasted with radiation, or crushing pressures in a fluid we can't breathe.

Do yourself a huge favor and actually look at who is running things over there and what they are doing to the populations. I'm not talking about some conspiracy because it's out in the open. The people elected are so corrupt they ruin entire countries by taking all of the money and keeping it for themselves. No money, no crops. Cash crops are out the picture. Ethnic genocides going on, on top of all the terrible things the governments are doing to the people. And then we get answers like "we should just wipe them all out" because people don't really know what's been going on and what's happening now. Some places are managing to do well. Kenya has colleges. Other places need to see some big changes in the establishment in order to finally move forward.

You know what, I'd easy just to blame developing countries when actually they're copping a lot of problems that were created by developed nations. They have the world's highest fertility rates, but did you know they also have the highest death rates. That's not including the low life expectancy, famine, lack of water, climate change, disease and war to name some.

If the world economy continues to be garbage, I think over the years we will see decreases as more people find it not a good financial decision to have kids right now.

You are assuming most people are smart enough to think that way. I think the opposite. When you are poor, sex is the cheapest form of entertainment. We will see birth rates (and abortion rates) skyrocket if the world economy does not improve soon.

The earth can regulate itself, if we exceed its capacity, some humans will die, reducing the total number of inhabitants, governments will introduce one-child policies to further this. I'm not trying to be harsh or anything, but if the scenario does occur, it won't be a 'death to all humans' type of ending, it will be 'many people die, but the human race survives once we reach sustainable limits'.

[QUOTE="DJ-PRIME90"]I call bull**** on that 7 billion, they can't possibly know how many people are on this planet. I'm pretty dam sure they aren't keeping count in africa and other 3rd-world-countries.coolbeans90

They can estimate it pretty closely, believe it or not.

It's probably closer to 3 billion.

You have reason to believe this...why?

I feel like the advances in science that let people live longer and have more kids are also the reason we shouldn't have too much of an issue. We'll be able to grow more food, faster and make inhospitable areas hospitable. By the time the Earth starts to overflow (which shouldn't be for a while), we'll have hopefully taken concepts to colonize Mars and the Moon to heart.

Sooo you're thinking that these third world countries are going to start reasoning with themselves and stop having children? Gimme a break.

DroidPhysX

What is wrong with third world countries giving birth to children at a higher rate than first world countries, why don't you just stop worrying about what they do and live your life. If you want to be better than the rest of the world than be the person that donates or helps out those who are less fortunate then you.

You're just contributing to the problem. The people in third world countries don't need more food, more medicine, etc. They need to stop having sex. What is donating going to do? There's a MONUMENTAL problem with third world countries giving birth to children at higher rate. It's the reason why this world is overpopulated. They need to learn to use damn condoms and stop s*****ing kids every 5 minutes.

In many third world countries, having more kids allows those kids to work and earn money for the family. It's also a natural instinct to procreate often when life conditions are not that well and it reduces the stress in their life.

for all those who seek population control, you have absolute power over one person... figure it out.
