Don't watch explicit movies with love scenes (no matter the orientation displayed) with parents.

right on! Plus, gays don't push people to be gayyy, a lot of christians push their religion on people (not all)

Lots of gay ppl are cool and lots of Christians are cool. It all depends on what kind of PERSON you want to be. It's almost like being gay is the opposoite of christian. I wonder how many gay christians there are.

freham2001

The issue is that it seems all "Christians" and their "morals" are all jumbled. I haven't met two Christians that believe the exact same stuff.. I don't believe that Christians should be against homosexuality whatsoever because (correct me if I am wrong, I am no theist) Jesus never spoke against Christianity in his sermons.

No offense to the christians you know, but if they dont believe the same stuff, they probably arent true christians. Of course the term christian nowdays is so misconstrued its ridiculous...Anyone can be a "christian," but not everyone is a follower of God. Ive been going to a church of about 400 for a long while and we are God followers. We are not the fake "christians" that make everyone mad by being hypocrites...we believe the same stuff because we follow what the Bible says, and what god says. Not what we hear, what other people tell us, or what we think is right or wrong.

Just to set the record straight....(no pun intended)....homosexuality is treated the same way in the NT as premarital sex is.

lol @ the pun ;) well, yea. I mean they're both wrong, if you believe in God and the bible. While two completely different things, they are both still sins and all sins are seen equally by God, no matter what it is.

I disagree. Two Christians need not believe the same thing in every aspect of the bible. Various parts of the bible can be interpreted in more that one way, particularly if the interpreter is not educated correctly as far as biblical history goes. Of course, there are things I believe all Christians should agree upon (God, Jesus, 10 Commandments, Moses, Resurrection, etc.) However, the bible is hard to read and even harder to interpret. So far all you know you, and your church of anout 400, could have interpreted a passage wrong and collectively be 400 people led astray by a mistake. It takes training and a lifetime to truly understand God's Word, not to be preachy. But you have contradicted yourself on one point though without knowing it. ".we believe the same stuff because we follow what the Bible says, and what god says. Not what we hear, what other people tell us, or what we think is right or wrong," but if you are anything like most church folk you listento what your Pastor/Reverend/Priest teaches (says). So basically, your beliefs are his/her beliefs and if he is wrong at any point than your entire congregation is wrong, but no one will probably ever know without doing the leg work themselves. There are not a ton of Christians who do the leg work of understanding the Word.

I honestly believe only a handful of Christians in the world can accurately interpret the bible for meaning. Unfortunately, I, nor you, are one of them.

well not by human eyes, but to God, yea. I mean if you steal he doesnt think you murdered someone, hes not trying to pin you with the worst deed possible. But sin is sin to God, doesnt matter what it is. All sin is hated by God.

Well i see what youre saying, but with all due respect, you don't know all the people at our church. Im not an ignorant person who will just listen to anyone, and i know the leaders of my church very well. Ive worked with them on mission trips in other countries, and i believe that they are very well experienced to be able to interpret the bible correctly.

Well, yea. I would trust these guys with my life. Literally. Now i dont just depend on them to figure out what the bible is saying, i am capable of figuring things out myself, too. And we just kinda share what we think a passage is saying and we work of each other and it helps us to better understand the text.

And you know what? Gay gene is either passed down scientifically or God's will religiously. Otherwise, it wouldn't happen either way.

OF COURSE this turns into a religion thread. *sigh*

If I saw 2 dudes kissing in public, I'd be a little weirded out. How old is your dad? Cause most poeple over the age of 60 would have a very simililar reaction..

[QUOTE="_en1gma_"] have actually heard that the King James Bible (correct me but isn't this one of the first versions?) had absolutely no passages against homosexuality. Interesting?

_en1gma_

Straight from the King James Bible:

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." -Leviticus 20:13

I think you were misinformed. Also, it's not against homosexuality per se; rather, homosexual acts.

that's just as bad as his father's reaction..... :| .....while your dad's reaction was poor you have to cut him some slack....like many said it was a different generation then.....trying to judge others on today's value structure is futile and unfair....

That's because it has been taken out of context. Within the same passage, it says not to have sex with your neighbour's wife, your mother, your sister, your daughter, and so on. Basically, it's saying doing "it" with anyone other than your own wife is a sin.

It still disgusts me. That is barbaric. Also, that just broke the entire point of bringing the quote up in the first place. In no way is that directly looking down on homosexuality.

A lot of straight people are disgusted/put-off when watching gay people mate. By the looks of it, most of the responses here call the father 'closed-minded', while at the same time giving 'close-minded' opinions to back their claim i.e. 'He's religious lolol'. Pretty hypocritical. I'll just point out another side of the argument. It's a normal reaction considering it's in front of his child. If you're an only child, he probably wants to make sure you're not gay that way the family can be extended and he can be a grandparent (a common wish for many parents). Gay people tend to enjoy watching gay scenes so it's normal to assume that the watcher may be gay Hell, most parents over-react when watching straight scenes in front of their children simply because it's uncomfortable. Not many parents enjoy talking about sex to their children, believe it or not. Anyway, yeah, I felt like shedding some light on this one-sided, repetitive thread. :P

Yes, but as we all know any guy would be particularly "happy" seeing two women kissing......

Dark_Knight6

Yeah, I love how that works. I've actually heard people say they hate gay guys but love gay women. :?

Cause you see gay men are spoiling other men's manly image, while watching a lesbian porn is always a plus. ;)

Heh, now that's what I call a double standard.

Well then they should keep their happiness and not display their stupidity without caution about their actions. :)

Oh, I'm sure. The less you know, the less you realize how cruel everything can be.

[QUOTE="_en1gma_"] I was just curious. ;)Shame-usBlackley

That's fine, but just ponder this:

If it was a racist or anti-gay stereotype you'd just popped off, how long do you think it would be before you got a day off? Tolerance at work, bro.

A racial or anti-gay stereotype being pointed out IS more harmful than associating Christianity with being Anti-homosexual, because guess what? It is. I mean Sodom and Gomorrah for one example should ring a bell. ;) Stating Christianity is fundamentally anti-homosexual is a factual statement not intended to harm the good name of Christians, its fact.

I think that's absolutely ridiculous, and no offense to your dad, but he seems incredibly ignorant and closed-minded. Thank God my parents are smart, open-minded people.

>I think you were misinformed. Also, it's not against homosexuality per se; rather, homosexual acts.

harashawn

And it should be common knowledge that the majority of homosexual acts are directly attributed to homosexuality, few people are just curious, that its just the nature of their desires, and any consensual sexual act should be private business of the people involved only.

So the other day I rented the movie Milk. It won numerous Academy awards and it starred two of my favorite actors, Sean Penn and James Franco. Well that night I popped it into the blue-ray player and started watching it. My Dad decided to watch the movie with me and I knew he was not going to like it. Within 5 minutes of the movie begining he made me turn it off because of the first gay kiss scene. He then went on to say that he "did not want to see that garbage" and that "there is something wrong with gay people" and that "it should be illegal to be gay and "Milk is not a real movie, its a gay porno" and finally he told me "I should not expose the family to this filth". (By the way I am not homosexual).

So what are your thoughts on my Dad's reaction? I knew that he did not like gay people, but I had no idea he had that much hatred towards them.

stupid4

i'm surprised that you posted thisto GS. that's your dad, and now you have opened a whole can of trash talk about your father and his views/ opinions. if you don't feel the same as your father then kudos to you, but you should still respect your fathers wishes while you are living in his house.

Sorry, what?? The Bible does not persecute homosexuals. I'd like you to learn your facts before you say things like that in the future, thanks.

What about your Levitcus scripture? What about the story of Sodom and Gomorrah? Explain how those are not specifically anti-homosexual? Go ahead.

As I've already said:
That's because it has been taken out of context. Within the same passage, it says not to have sex with your neighbour's wife, your mother, your sister, your daughter, and so on. Basically, it's saying doing "it" with anyone other than your own wife is a sin. harashawn
And as for Sodom and Gomorrah, I suggest you read this. It has nothing to do with homosexuals.

EDIT: I linked the wrong passage.

And the inference that it was an affliction?

Come on, if someone equated being gay to a disease, they'd be perm-banned.

[QUOTE="hughami"][QUOTE="Treflis"]Ironically the movie takes up that issue really and shows how a Homosexual US politican fought for Homosexuals rights despite the opposition from the Homophobes and Religion. I'd say watch some time you're alone at home, You dad has his opinions and while you should acknowledge it no matter how odd or "cruel" they are, But you don't need to agree. Also watching it when you're alone doesn't expose the rest of the family with it like he doesn't want it too.SEANMCAD

if his dad new his kid was watching a movie with guys making out (why would he want to watch it *alone* :| ) he'd probaly kick him out, i would.

with some of these responses I am very honestly trying to get my head around people have childern in the first place.

Everyone seems to be approaching it as if the kid is a roomate in a house paying rent. Which, if true, I have to ask why not get a roomate instead of a child?

So because I'm his son I get no rights or say on what goes on in his house? That doesn't seem fair.

As for Sodom and Gomorrah, the motive to destroy S&G may have not been primarily anti homosexual, but homosexual acts were mentioned as debauchery and were a reason or factor for the destruction, the debate on whether is was a significant factor or just a meaningless mention still continues. Varying through denomination. Sorry even though most of the Bibles scriptures are up for interpretation, However, Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." That is not up for interpretation to me, regardless of what else is supposedly unacceptable as mentioned surrounding this passage. The point in that passage is quite clear and concise, not really any room for interpretation.
