Lets keep all impressions of the Batman: AA demo here in this thread so we dont get another 10 threads poping up and clogging the boards.

August 7, 3:20 pm: Anyone played the demo yet?!

Winter 2009: What does it mean to be Samurai? To devote yourself utterly to a set of moral principles. To seek a stillness of your mind. And to master the way of the sword. I do not know, but people seem to be enjoying the Batman demo..

thanks how did i miss that.. Ohh and i read your film review i wanna watch that movie, so from what i understand its more like a parody of horror, by that i mean lame blood splatter and many BOOO poping every here and there. Its funny instead of scary and nothing innovative... does it have any mosnters or people dressing up and "make up painted scary faces"

Well I felt it needed to be more of a parody - and there were two scenes that did parody the genre - and to have more humour because many of the scary moments in it just recycled the Boo! stuff, like monsters jumping out etc. There are some monsters in it, like the crazy old woman.

Wait till it comes out on DVD. Its not worth full price.

Do your also involve Liam Neeson?!! Yes there is a brief delay to implement some physics based stuff. Not to worry, its only a few weeks.

Just finished playing it... the link you gave downloaded at 1.8 mb/s which was niiiiiice. My thoughts? HOLY F*** YES YES YES The combat system is just click to attack, but you direct it with mouse movement and it feels sooo good, there's a few different takedown options, the demo itself is really short but it definitely gives you a feel of how the full game is gonna be as the final room lets you take out some armed guards - protip: do not let them shoot you, it's not fun when they do that.

Can you give us a full outlet of the control scheme? Glad you like it partner!!

EDIT: Also what is the general port like? Do you have mouse support in the menus etc? Full customisation of options etc?

The demo was fun and the controls work well. My only problem was this glitch that happened when I tried to hang on a rail. Batman froze and the only thing I could do was look around, I had to wait until the baddies killed me. As a port it ran pretty smooth, I have a E6600, 2gb of ram, and a 9800gtx and the game never went below 30fps with everything maxed out at 1680x1050.

I played both the pc and 360 version. Much better with m/kb. Great gameplay.

Full mouse support in menus. Full control customization, they put the control and graphics options in windows though.

Couldnt keep a constant 60fps with physx on with a gtx295 at 1920x1200 4xaa and max settings. Physx off kept it at 60fps through the whole demo except for the opening fight. There must be a better driver in the works since the game thinks the 190.38 are outdated.

Full mouse support in menus which is nice.

I like how the combat works. I wasn't going to buy it because I thought it would be really repetitive, but the stealth mechanics are awesome and the combat is simple, easy to get used to but still very fun.

I don't know why people always type that in - but there it is. This game has caught my attention as of late. I'm hoping for something here.

Pros:

- Looks great
- Story seems like a lot of fun and very slick
- Art****is great
- Controls are good
- Certainly fun

Cons:

- Seems to be VERY simple though. Click click click to take down enemies, right click to counter etc. There's a bit of variation when climbing on things, but once again, because they're very much determined by scripting to get to the areas, there's only so much customization that can take place here.
- I'm kind of sick of slow motion ruining the atmosphere/****of games. Why is this necessary? Batman doesn't have bullet time... it's not slick - it was slick ten years ago in The Matrix, and then 8 years ago in Max Payne, but now it's just sort of... sloppy.

Good fun. It seems to be on the money in a lot of things, and while it could have gone down this track, the Batman character doesn't come off as a "ripped, badass, wisecracking rebel" as most video game protagonists are heading these days. So good job.

Clearly the graphics king so far for me... pretty good perfomance, thank god the graphics settings are at another exe than ca be locate via the start menu and eidos... unlike i that i run the game right away from the desktop.... Nice story it doesnt get borring move forwad and kill stuff, but it got to say the combat looks too simple and sneaking too specifc, propably because the demo was the tutorial part and more will be unlocked along the way. Everything was amazing apart from gameplay, which is ok but lets just say that if thats how the entire game is (which i doubt) i wont be buying it just yet. What i mean is a demo is suposed to give you and idea of how exactly the gameplay is..... i feel like i played the tutorial than the actual gameplay... i gonna watch some gameplay videos about the later chapters before i buy.

Just remember though that there's a lot of stuff you can unlock with your experience points in the full game. I heard there was like 20 different combos for the fighting moves.

I haven't been following the game up to this point so my opinion is based strictly on a play through of the demo much too late last night...

Nice graphics. Actually in some areas, very, very nice graphics ;) with very good performance. Once you get used to them, the controls work well. The combat is a mixture of brawling and stealth techniques.

What I didn't like as much is the demo had a confining and rather scripted feel to it. Move from section to section clearing out the henchmen before moving to the next section, each section being a small area to work in -- although the sections were getting progressively larger.

There are limited opportunities for object interaction and those there can be clearly indentified in investigate mode. Some interaction, such as moving an object, was done by repeated button pressing (to me, this brings a more "console" feel to the game).

The subsequent trailers/video following the demo seemed to indicate there are quite a few more detective elements to the game yet to be experienced, so that has the potential to be very cool. However, judging by the demo alone I can see how the game could become repetitive.

I'm not convinced this game will have significant appeal to PC gamers in particular, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Definitely appreciate the demo nevertheless.

biggest loser doesn't need to resign! I thought the demo was pretty good, pleased to say it looks nice and runs well. Actually when I started playing it I got this Dead Space feel, I suspect it's the atmosphere and the close over the shoulder camera more than anything (maybe the tight corridors too?) The brief gameplay segment they showed featured a lot of stealth gameplay. Lots of well placed gargoyle heads for the bat to jump up on and swoop down from. The AI didn't have very long vision so if you are coming from Far Cry where they can spot you 10km away you'll be loving this. Of course this is probably more of an indication of it being an early tutorial type level than anything. I think it has that final game polish feel and I did get a few smiles out of the cutscenes and dialog. I like the character bios they include in the menus. Based on the demo alone I'll probably "swoop" in and buy this game, pity about the physx nonsense.

No, it's not nonsense - it's PhysX, the most revolutionary... er, gaming thing... since the invention of the mouse and keyboard. They should implement this in chess too.

I was perched up on a gargoyle and a guy walked underneath, so you hit RMB and batman drops down grabs him and zips back up, grabbing him by the throat and then hanging him upside down from the gargoyle.. then I flew over to one on the opposite side of the room. The guy starts yelling "help me!" and his buddies run over to him, they see they can't get him down so they spread out again and start looking for me.. I thought that was pretty cool. It's really simple to fight and do stuff, click to attack rmb to counter as someone already said. L CTRL to crouch and move around, space to run/activate X brings up detective mode which is all infrared/(batman sonar from the latest movie). There are tons of character bios for you to read (some are hidden like the riddler one) that are accompanied by comic book art, character trophies which are fully rendered models of select people (only batman and croc in the demo). F uses your grappling hook, which either locks onto gargoyles or pretty much whatever you want it to, holding RMB brings up the batarang then LMB throws it, it locks on to people which is handy because he throws it kinda weirdly. LCTRL+RMB from behind = silent takedown, but if the guy is already on the ground (like after you glide kick him in the head) it's just a regular finisher move (huge punch to the head). Basically the control scheme works wonderfully. There really isn't anything a controller can do that a properly designed mouse system can't, and this is a good example.

Definitely understood, in addition I agree with everyone else that said the demo felt like tutorial stages. So, you know, while still a good representation in many ways (visuals, performance, controls, fundamental gameplay, etc) we're potentially only scratching the surface here in the demo.

I haven't played the demo yet, but based on what I've seen so far, chiefly from having watched videos on U-tube, it appears that there are an inordinate number of gargoyles in this game, and that the player will do a lot of perching?

Not a huge fan of Batman, but judging from the demo this is at least a very good port. M&Kb controls work perfectly, menu works with mouse, all the controls are even set up so nicely I didn't have to customize them. The performance is very good, I got 30+ FPS with my slightly dated rig (2.4 Core 2 Duo, 8800 GTS 640MB, 2 GB RAM) everything maxed out (even PhysX on high) on 1024x768. The gameplay seems to be very linear, but that's to be excepted, overall it feels like a console game but a good port of one, so if that sounds nice to you and you like Batman even the slightest - well then this game is pretty good, for what it is.

I don't understand this sudden talk of mouse cursors not working in menus?

I've got dozens and dozens of modern games on my shelf, and I can't think of one single title in which the mouse cursor doesn't work in the menus? Why is this suddenly a talking point? I don't get it?
