Took out two dudes at Stary with my sniper. One was a bandit one was a survivor. They where hitting up the tents hard, as they came out of hte last tent i shot the first guy he died. Then they 2nd tried to run towards this truck that was comign to pick them up, when he was about 10 feet frmo the vehicle I shot him to in the head. The two people in teh car saw this and jsut BOOKED IT. It was like a hiest that went wrong, way to fun haha.

I was getting revenge for a buddy that had been killed there and it went real well, one of hte two guys had a tons of stuff on him :P

God this game is great, so many different experiences just love it.

Oh yeah, and we now have 4 vehicles, trying to keep them hidden as best we can :P

I did get ran over by a truck last night, luckily TakeItEazy took one of them out after I was knocked out :P

The random encounters are my favorite part! I wish I could even keep 1 vehicle, I found an ATV but it flew in the air out of no where lol.

I almost got hit by a bus in Cherno the other day, only to have a guy jump out and kill my 2 friends that I just made lol. I couldn't stop laughing when the bus almost ran me over and the 2 guys I was with started screaming. xD

That's so true. When there is no objective other than to survive it makes the world really interesting because people are just doing whatever they want. Even just meeting someone is intense because they might turn on you for a can of beans.

Had a soul-crushing death today in the barracks.

i found a DMR in the southern barracks, and a M16A4 with a ACOG scope in the Northern barracks which I have never seen before. It only had one mag though, so I hopped into another server to look for more ammo. After walking out of he showers, I saw another player with his back turned to me. I took out my m1911 and blasted 5 rounds into his back which killed him.

When I first went into the barracks, I only had 8000 blood, and when I opened a door it broke my legs, caused me to bleed and knocked me unconscious. I only had 3500 blood when I recovered, and this is what I was at when I killed the other player. I ran into the room he was looking into and found a bunch of ammo for my m16. Upon going back into the hallway, I was surprised by another player at the end of the corridor. He shot first with a Winchester, which was enough to finish me off.

That hurt pretty bad, I guess thats what I get for server hopping in the barracks.

Sometimes getting into a server that is the same version you have is the way to go, like I have version 1.7.2 and most of the time I can get into the same server that is 1.7.2

Also if you have an issue like the black loading screen of death, that can be sometimes fixed (I just had that issue when I first started but just googled it). The game is hella fun when you don't lag and get into a server fast, but when it lags or servers are down it's a drag :(.

Excellent. I just hope they work on making the interface better. I can live without nice animations and such until it goes standalone, but the UI is terrible.

Not really. It depends what type of terrain you're on, how you are moving, and what the weather is. I rarley ever aggro unless I'm being careless and just went to get somewhere as fast as possible. You should have seen 1.7.1. It was horrible. 1.7.2 and up started fixing it a bit. Now it's better than it ever was.

In my opinon one possible thing they could do to make zombies more fun to shoot is to add different zombie types.

Have some George Romero types that are slow and walk with their arms out in front. Have some Bear Grylls esque. roaming zombies that roam the wilderness to keep you on your toes. Have some larger zombies that are almost like alpha zombies. They aren't too fast or too slow, but take a bit of damage, etc.

When all the zombies act practically the same, the combat isn't nearly as fun as it could be. And that's my issue with it. It's pretty easy to not aggro, it's just that when you do aggro, every zombie sprints at you like Ussain Bolt.

due to a crazy glitch I have two separate characters. After the update I was faced with a new spawn, but only on a certain group of servers. On all other servers, my old pre-update character persists.

very interesting.

It's already been proven that it doesn't matter what weather,day/night or terrain effects aggro. Hell I've been aggroed by a walker 20 feet away when I had 3 vision on my debug menu and I was even crawling, which I pretty much do 98% of the time and frankly as much as I love the concept of DayZ but when you're 98% of the time crawling it gets old fast.

The AI is very sketchy and needs to be worked on, but at this rate it probably won't be done since they keep on adding new things instead of concentrating on the core concept of the game.

This happens to me every once in a while but not all the time. I was crawling past zombies for an hour then all of a sudden one spotted me from twice as far lol. The only time it makes me mad is when they run up and my axe misses when I am aimed right at them. I hate losing blood over a crappy aggro.

I hope he does add different types of zombies, that would make the game more enjoyable when it comes to combat. Would be nice to have zombies in the forest, you're too safe in the forest at the moment. The mod needs an extra gameplay element for the endgame; veterans say there's not much to do once you've grasped how to survive.

I wish there was a way they could fix the combat. Why is there such a ridiculous lag between the player and the zombie to the point where the chance of hitting a zombie's less likely than hitting something when you're at your first cavern in Morrowind? And why are they so twitchy?

But even with all the bugs, glitches and lack of content the game gives me the thrill I got from STALKER and Fallout.

Yus!!! they fixed some the aggro issues!!!

[FIXED]	Infected detect players from too far away (reduced by about 20%)
I would try this out but I'm logged off at a spot I don't want to get aggro from zombies.

Seems to be a lot better, but it's still heavily dependent on player action(running, crouch-running/walking, low-crawling).

Anybody want to partner up? I need someone who wants to come up north to find military weapons, who has vent(my steam and in-game comms don't work), and who has an intermediate understanding of the game.

I've been watching a lot of the videos posted on YouTube - been ages since I've done any PC gaming, so I wasn't even familiar with ArmA II - and I love the concept. It's very nearly the perfect Zombie Apocalypse game, what with all the survival horror elements of scavenging for food and water and supplies. Unfortunately, I don't much care for the whole MMO aspect. I really wish DayZ offered offline single-player and LAN support, with the ability to scale the zombie population based on personal preference. Yeah, I get that the very heart of the idea is a social experiment of interacting with complete strangers from all around the world, dealing with issues like bandits and communication barriers, and the idea of coming together with fellow survivors to form a new social order, but...clearly that's just not happening given all the PvP going on. I'd much rather just host a LAN game with a handful of friends and try to survive against the elements and constantly respawning zombies. Or have the developers integrate some sort of AI bots with varying degrees of hostility, ranging from shoot-on-sight bandits to follow-you-everywhere friendlies. Because, let's be honest, the camping douchewads who kill other people for fun are exactly the sort of a-holes you want the zombie apocalypse to wipe out in the first place. Even so, despite my reservations, I'm sorely tempted to pick up ArmA II just to play the mod. Though, from what I've seen, there's still some major jank to be ironed out.

The strength of the game is the social dynamic. If you took out the other players - there's pretty much nothing else to do. What you could do is join an empty server and play with your friends. If the aspect of PvP or interacting with other survivors doesn't appeal to you, I wouldn't pick up the game.

Somebody modded... well... the mod to be singleplayer at one point. I remember Rocket not liking it too much and don't know if it still works. And there are ways you can host your own LAN server if you search that on youtube. However, I would give the game a chance as is. The thrill of seeing other players in this game is unlike any other. You can still totally avoid other people, or try and interact with them. Or if they look to be bandits (using sniper rifles which suck against killing zombies), take them out.

Without other players, the thrill of the game would be gone for me. Our group has a camp with 2 vehicles, and a few tents with about 7 military weapons we've collected. Some of us have night vision as well. I'm constantly worrying that someone will have raided our camp far out in the woods when I log on. But I'm glad that thrill is there or it wouldn't be the same. We've been shot at driving the car at night. And after we survived we talked about that for an hour.

When you're alone you have a lot of potential. Find good gear, a tent, and make a camp far out in the woods. Search for more good gear and vehicles and be your own force to be reckoned with. The PVP aspect of the game adds a lot of fear to the game. And unless you're very far up north, most bandits wont be able to kill you unless they have a really high powered sniper rifle or something. As long as your far enough way from people who are shooting at you, you should be able to make a run for it and hide under a tree or something.

This mod alone makes it worth the $23-29 when buying the arma pack. Have witnessed some crazy things that you just don't see in other games. And its always fun to watch another survivor running full speed whle a pack of zombies are chasing him down.

That's a nice camp you got there. Would be a shame if something happened to it.

Me and a friend from the group looted and ransacked another groups camp. We were pretty ruthless. We drove each vehicle 1 by 1 back to our camp. Then, we drove the tractor and flattened out all their tents after we had looted them. We left the tractor as a message that it isn't a server issue. We just stole all but one of their possessions.

The last two arma2 beta patches have made the loading to servers 2-3 times faster and also ive gained 10-15 fps in game now to in dayz. Very welcome improvement I must say.

Nick, nice screenshot and write up, sounds hilarious

I go to empty a barn when i'm done getting sh*t supplies and clime a tower to get a good look at the sitch, and i see a truck going across a field about 200m away so i duck down but they already seen me, they keep coming closer and closer and it's about 10 of them in ghillie suits with 50cals , dmr's and order me to come down, as i do i get shot in the back of the head execution style. I wish i had a grenade, i could have went out with a bang.

Me and my group got caught when another group used their truck as bait. I went to take the truck and was only able to kill 1 of them before I was shot. Out of the 5 of us, only 1 of us survived. Pretty clever other group.

That has been known to happen, it's also one of the most obvious ambushes that's in Dayz :P

After all the time i have played so far about 20hours i had to get blood on my hands, i luck out and find a heli crash sight and get a Dmr and 20 semi auto rounds and a sh*t load of healthy supplies so i set up shop in the bushes. And about 10 min later some poor dumb bastard comes running along with 10 zombies on his ash and keeps trying to get into the loot box without getting hit, he was doing laps around me trying to get the zombies off him. Finally i pull up and say enough is enough as loud as i can into the mic! And head shot the poor bastard in the back of the head execution style. God damn it felt so good to send someone else back to the coast.

But what gets me is that they will sit there for hours and wait for people. Doesn't sound that fun at all.

I doubt they had to wait hours. I often wait at particular spots on 30 player servers and I'll see players every 10 minutes or so.

This game is almost unplayable now with the amount of hackers there have been in the past few days. Yesterday everyone on the server got teleported to a random field while the hacker mowed us all down. That happened to me 4 times yesterday. Lost some great stuff.....

That's really strange. I rarley ever see hackers. I've played for about 3 months now and have only ever seen 2 hackers.

Also, I just finished my second montage-ey type video of everything that's been happening to our group in DayZ compressed into a few highlights. One of our crazy hacker encounters is in their.

Hackers... can't go a day in a popular server without dealing with at least one or two hackers a day.

Lag.. I ping 40 but somehow it feels like I'm pinging 600ms....

Clunky.. probably the worst gaming engine I have ever seen... everything is clunky and chunky.

Developer... while I admire Rocket for sticking to his guns, he makes some god aweful decisions and his lack of experience for coding really shows.

it is still a fun game to play for a bit, but once you have max gear there isn't really anything left else to do. all the great items in the game have been taken out so theres nothing to strive for. helicopters? also taken out. cars? they're all boring as the "fun" ones were also taken out. the game got boring quickly.

i just hope some developer out there is is willing and has the funds to make this a stand-alone game... it needs its own engine and a skilled developer team.

Helicopters were taking out due to a bug with repairing them. It is yet to be fixed, but hasn't been removed permanentley. Rocket did not remove any cars to my knowledge. And I'm not sure what you mean by saying, the "fun ones were also taken out." At our camp we have an offroad jeep which goes up to 50kph offroad and over 100kph on the road, two bycicles which are ridiculously fast in the woods, and a volkswagen which is also to fast for its nature.

The mod is in alpha. So it's going to be buggy. But I feel as if you are ridiculously exaggerating how unstable it is. I rarley ever crash and when I do it's before I'm in a server. Once I'm in it's usually stable as can be. ArmA II is a simulator and being that it is not focused on mass appeal, the physics aren't too great. For instance, you may need to vault your way out of a rock if you get stuck on top of it or something. But nothing really game breaking.

There are bugs and networking issues that need to be worked out, but it's far from unplayable. ATM I have a character that hasn't died in 12 days. I have over 200 zombie kills and 11 player kills.

The mod is a very enjoyable experience in my opinion.

There must have been a new exploit in battleeye found recently for all these hackers. Just check the dayz forums, tons of threads about hackers that just teleport people to one place and kill them. It just happened to my friend as I am typing this lol. Good thing I decided to check this instead of log in, there goes his silenced m4...

I WANT to play Day Z, but with it becoming Standalone in September, I just don't know if $30 is worth it. Do you think it will be standalone at the start or near the end of September? Also do you think it will be $30 or so when in its standalone alpha? Also, is there reason to get it at present? Is it still buggy as? What about War Z, do you think there would be reason to own both? Also, hows the Arma 2 Aussie community? If I buy it for Day Z, then buy Day Z standalone, I would like Arma 2 to be still a valid game to play. Thanks!

As far as I know it's just a rumor that it will be a stand alone game in Sept. I bought Arma 2 when it was $30 and I thought it was worth it for the game and DayZ.

Also I do plan on getting War Z and play DayZ (if it's still good).
