CRYSIS
god that game was horrible!!
Plain and simple this game would've been great 10 YEARS AGO.
1) Crappy story - so there's an island that has findings of alien tech and its let loose, and you have to destroy the island... wow, how original. Is like playing Doom.
2) Crappy gameplay - so you have a suit which you can set to run faster, give more strenght, jump higher, become cloaked, and more armor... right, like in the middle of a firefight I'm going to be looking at my keyboard, having to search for the keys to access those features. Why not have strenght, armor, and speed all in default? And just have cloak seperately?
3) Crappy suit - All those features in the suit, specially the only thing this game has going for it IS THE CLOAK, and it all lasts but 2-5 SECONDS!! WTF? Useless suit.
4) Crappy specs - I can run CoD4 all on high, I can run Gears of War all on high, I can run Bioshock all on high, but I cannot run Crysis past medium. Even when it is on medium, it fills up with characters, it slows down to a halt!! Waaaaay too much specs config.
The only thing this game has going for it, is the soundtrack, nice music. Other than that, there's is NOTHING revolutionary about this game, it is WAAAAYYY overhyped.

After seeing CoD4 get labeled "2nd best PC Game of All Time" in Australia's PC Powerplay, I'm going to go with that.aliblabla2007:lol:  Sure the most overrated is COD 4 MW. This junk got the game of 2007 year too many times, graphics 2007 and so on from some publications, sites and players.

I can't say what the most overrated game is, but i think Crysis is quite overrated(IMO). I finished the game once and have no intention of replaying it, ever. This is how it goes for me -
1. Super-suits are not new to games but the way Crysis presented it was refreshing.
2. Graphics are awesome. I have to agree, Crytek(Boo!!!) deserves credit for this.
3. Gameplay is not bad, but not as great as it is made out to be by many.
4. Story was lame, almost non-existent like Frontlines.
5. The alien level was like WTF. Way too long and super boring. Floating around inside that space-ship, there were times when i wish the hero would just die and the story would end. I think i'm gonna lose my dinner just thinking about it...*urp*.
Conclusion - Crysis is not too bad by itself. Definitely not the best game as is claimed by some just because it had super graphics. To me it's a just game where Crytek(Boo!!!) wanted to show off the power of their engine.
To the OP - COD4 ain't overrated. WTH were you thinkin'? :P

Find me a game with almost nonexistant interactivity with the environment, repetitive rail shooter gameplay with little variety, a 5 hour campaign, boring characters and little variety in the weapons and enemies. If it gets #2 on any "top games of all time" list, then it's pretty overrated.

Even though it's not a real RPG, there must be something about it because I've spend 200 hours playing it. I can't call a game that I've spend 200 hours playing bad.
COD 4 is a good game, it's single player sucks, but mp is solid. In light of how many awards it won, and how well it reviewed (93%) I'd have to have it in my top few most overrated pc games. Chronicles of riddick again good game, rated too high for me. Rainbow Six Vegas for me was really not something I enjoyed and I'm not sure how it rated so well on PC.
There are a few others that I don't particularly like so much and think they are overrated, but I feel they do enough themselves so other people have more than enough justification for liking them.

for me, runescape. i dont like playing games that are like a job - i have a job if i feel the compunction to do any work. also any MMORPG in the history of the world (can you tell they really arent my thing?)
oh, and the Sims! as above, i have a life/job/relationship/family/friends. i love them but you have to work at all these things. i dont want a virtual one that i have to work at also. i play games to be able to do things i wouldn't ordinarily be able to e.g. command an army of medieval crusaders - how often do you get to do that? (well, there was that one time but i got into a lot of trouble, something about time space continuum yada yada yada)

I've no problem with that. It's just the stuff you read in reviews/forums that drives me nuts. Hell, the entire 360 forum has a hard-on the size France for the game. Yesterday I was told that it's "one of the greatest rpgs ever, maybe even the best", "no game can compare to oblivion", "no game can come close to the depth and variety and missions", "i've been playing games since the start of the industry and oblivion is the best game i've played" and here's the kicker, "I think it's better than Fallout and Baldur's Gate".While Crysis might be a bit overrated, it's still a descent game (but with a lot of room for improvements), it's not as bad as you make it out to be I completely agree that the story is as bad as it can be (or close anyway :) ). They probably wrote the story in ten minutes while drinking late one night I can't agree on the "crappy gameplay/suit" part though. The suit is created so that you can be more creative when fighting enemies. If you had power, speed and armor at the same time, then you'd become way to powerfull, but the way it is now you have to make sacrifices to succeed. And the cloak is a very good feature, you just have to know how to use it. The faster you move, the faster it drains the power. If you go more slowly towards your enemies, you can walk a much greater distance, before power runs out It's great to walk slowly up to an enemy, switch to power mode, knock the enemy out, then back to cloaking acting like nothing has happened :DCRYSIS

Interactivity with the environment? So i bet you think being able to pick up turtles in Crysis was super awesome? Repetitive shooter? What FPS isn't repetitive? Kill some bad guys, plant/disarm some bombs, kill more bad guys, do some sneaking around, kill yet more bad guys.....etc...etc... That's why the devs bank on a good story to keep things fresh. Okay, the SP campaign was short, but i'd rather have a 5 hour meaningful campaign than a 30hour+ campaign with a lame story. Variety in weapons? Yeah, they should have included the Nail Gun and maybe the BFGs or better yet the Plasma Gun, dontcha think?WTF. Variety in enemies.....uhhhh....didn't you notice that every enemy had a different eye color?.....and....they had moles at different places too.
Bottomline, just 'cause a single magazine gave it #2 doesn't mean every other mag did too. Jeezzz!
How come no one mentioned Bioshock?
I have no idea how it got so many GOTYs. IGN? Xplay? Spike?
It's a good game, but far from the best last year. It's an 8-8.5 for me.

The game's physics are terrible. In a 2007 shooter, you'd expect to be able to move certain objects like say, barrels around to create mobile cover, don't you think?
This game IS repetitive. Most of the time, you go shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, plant bomb, fire rocket, shoot, shoot, shoot. In Half-Life 2, you go meet characters, shoot, throw things around with gravity gun, shoot, command antlions, shoot, throw things around with gravity gun, shoot, kill combine with gravity gun, shoot, shoot. In STALKER, you go explore, shoot, explore, shoot, pick up objects for inventory, shoot, eat, shoot.
CoD4 doesn't have a good story. It's basically a generic "terrorists vs Western military" type of plot.
Variety in weapons... Lets see, you have automatic rifles, sub machine guns, shotguns, pistols and sniper rifles, grenade weapons and projectile weapons. It's pretty realistic for a modern period.
However, all of the guns have practically no spread, have huge loads of ammo ('cept for one sniper rifle) all kill in 1-3 shots.
STALKER has pretty much the same guns, but instead the guns have very different stats. You could be fighting with a super-accurate gun that has almost no ammo, or an inaccurate bullet belcher.
Enemies.. there are only two different groups of them, in case you haven't noticed. Humans that don't wear body armour and die in one shot and dogs.
Oh and if you think getting #2 all time best game is okay, then what about the dozens of websites that put it up as GoTY?

Meeting new "characters" in Half-Life 2 is the same way you "meet" characters in CoD4... thing is, HL2 characters are 99x more interesting.
Terrorists vs Western Military is OVERUSED. Call of Duty 4 is a "WAR" game not a "MILITARY POLICE ACTION" game. you'd expect a "WAR" game to have a fight of "Army vs Army" instead of "Army vs Militia" force. The story has to change to allow for that.
The "no ammo" part has been edited. Sorry about that. Point is, CoD4 weapon variety sucks. Almost all of the guns are super-accurate AND are bullet belchers.
Enemies die in 1-3 shots no matter where you shoot. You know, there is such a thing as a bulletproof vest... don't you think at least some of the people from a terrorist organization numbering hundreds could at least be sporting one of those?
Dogs, I wasn't complaining about :| That's the only "improvement" from the rest of the series - they doubled the number of enemy types from 1 to 2.
Well, the drooling fanboy idiocy, compunded by the "me too, I can't think for myself" bandwagon jumping surrounding HL2 was beyond absurd. The game could've lived up to that hype and HL surely didn't. While the game was well optimized and quite laudable from a technical standpoint, as a game, it was run of the mill. (Only GTA IV reaches the same nauseating levels of fanboy wankery, but as I've not played it, I can't comment just how badly it fails to live up to the hype).
For a complete gold plated turd, the award must go to the COD series. Way to take games back to the heady days of 1993 when the CD format was brand new and non-interactive, linear rail shooters infested the scene.
After seeing CoD4 get labeled "2nd best PC Game of All Time" in Australia's PC Powerplay, I'm going to go with that.aliblabla2007Please explain why Call of Duty 4 is overrated?
DanielDust
Oh forgot about games :)
Play CS Source and Flatout 2 online (they have shortcomings but they don't prevent enjoying a game) :D
Recent? In 2007 Only Tomb Raider: Anniversary was a GOOD (not the best) game-remake. :D 2006 was better
Let's see what 2008 give us. :D I already like GRID,checked the demo out, worth buying :)

Do you think it's the 2nd best game ever created? :|
Or anywhere close?
[QUOTE="Kuyt19"][QUOTE="aliblabla2007"][QUOTE="Kuyt19"][QUOTE="aliblabla2007"][QUOTE="Kuyt19"]To the OP - COD4 ain't overrated. WTH were you thinkin'? :P

Find me a game with almost nonexistant interactivity with the environment, repetitive rail shooter gameplay with little variety, a 5 hour campaign, boring characters and little variety in the weapons and enemies. If it gets #2 on any "top games of all time" list, then it's pretty overrated.
Jeezzz!
You could be fighting with a super-accurate gun that has no ammo, or an inaccurate bullet belcher.
Enemies.. there are only two different groups of them, in case you haven't noticed. Humans that don't wear body armour and die in one shot and dogs.
Carry a barrel around? Won't that be a bit heavy with all the other military gears?
Meet new characters? "Hi, my name's Jim. Nice to meet you. Do you cough up bullets everytime you sneeze too?" Yeah, that could work.
Eat? Are you sure you don't wanna do some shopping while you're at it? The game is Modern Warfare, not The Sims.
Terrorist vs Western Military. Exactly. You wanna include a boring alien mission like Crysis did?
Who do you think they are? Rambo's offsprings? You want them to take 15+ shots and still be able to make goodbye calls to their families?
In STALKER you have to choose between a super-accurate gun with 'no ammo' and an inaccurate bullet balcher? That's easy, i choose the latter. What's the use of a super-accurate gun with no bullets?
Well, if a bullet went straight through your head, you'd pretty much die too, unless you're a flesh-eating zombie. And i thought dogs were man's best friends, OH! the deception......

Okay, i get your point. Next time i bring in my squad for training, i'll order them to play soccer with a barrel instead of a ball. That way they can get the best 'kick' out of the damn barrel. Oh, and during firefights, "the barrel" will be my prime target. Yay! new and improved gameplay.
Half-life 2 characters are more interesting......got it. "Can't you see i'm busy?", "Stop that", "You'd better keep to yourself if you wanna stay alive."......bzzzz.....repeat dialogue from beginning. 99x more interesting indeed.
It's a strategic WAR game. Just because you don't see every soldier carrying an auto-firing nuke gun doesn't mean it's any less of a WAR game. This ain't WW2, it's a Modern war. You just don't blindly lead your troops into the battlefield and do a "who runs out of soldiers first" game . You have to use your brains, attack key locations.
Yeah, COD4 weapon variety sux. I wish they were less accurate like STALKER, so that i miss the enemy more giving them a better chance to kill me, then i'd lose the WAR and the terrorists would rule the world.
No bullet-proof vests? What did you think they were wearing? Tuxedos? You're right, they should have worn T-shirts labelled "Bullet-proof Vest underneath".
Yeah, only two types of enemies is dumb. They should have a wide variety of enemies like Half-life 2 - soldiers, monsters with big eyes, monsters with small eyes, monsters with big butts, monsters with small butts, monsters with roach-like wings, monsters without roach-like wings......and so on.
