Most overrated PC game of all time?

cod 4 is overrated... if stalker got a 8.5, then this game deserved a 8. Stupid story, rail shooter, only 5 hours long at most, endless stream of ennemy, stupid grenade system, small map, suffer from the hero syndrom (the american and british are so awsome and they can kill 300 of these bad muslims/russian without suffering any lost), stupid health system, overrated mp (little map mean low player limit=less fun) no vehicule like in UO and, even though you have been trained in the us army or the sas, you can't open a damn door the whole game.

Oblivion is also overrated in my book, but I am not sure wich one is the worst of the two.

So lets blame console gaming like we usually do, everything is their fault!

Most overated is definitely Oblivion, especially wihtout any mods. that game was downright bad. COD4 is close though but atleast it is a decent game unlike oblivion. another one would be KOTOR. though its a fun game, like cod4 its nothing great. Same with civilization 4

After listening to all your rantings, i came up with a solution. You should play "The Doors". It's a new 3D game where you get to open door after door, which leads to more doors. Along the way you have to pick up health packs because you sometimes encounter an enemy when you open a door. And to spice things up, you get to kill only 5 muslims/russians max. And the map is so huge, it is endless, so you'll probably get lost most of the time. The game is exactly 450hours long, so you won't run out of it so soon. And the story is so amazing that you get to fight aliens towards the end. And it has cool vehicles that are there for no apparent reason, except for you to drool over. And the shooting is so realistic that even after you spray a whole mag into an enemy, he only has a slight itch on his left butt cheek........mmmmmmmm.......just the game for you.

Defending console fanboys isn't being open-minded, not in a PC Games forum at least. Speaking of forums, the PS3 and X360 forums are just a couple of blocks down the road. You might wanna check them out. You'll probably find more people there who agree with you.

Hmm. It's close between Crysis and Oblivion for me. I'm going with Oblivion. :)

Crysis was just an average action game, good for 20 hours of gameplay. Not worth 50 bucks, perhaps 5.

Oblivion, seriously, I can't even begin to name all the things that are wrong with this game, I absolutely loved Morrowind, but I tried and tried to like Oblivion over and over and it's only made it worse, it seems to me Bethesda only listened to the people who though Morrowind was crap. That just about sums up the whole spirit of the game.

Oblivion would also be my greatest dissappointment in gaming history.

But honestly, BG2 is the one game which met and surpassed my expectations far beyond anything I had imagined, which in this case was a lot.
I can't put my finger on it what it was, and after about 6 100%(or almost, this is definatly the largest linear game ever) completions(including expansion, that is) and over a million random other tries, the awesomeness has worn off somewhat.
My subconcious is making me save another complete playthrough for when I'm 65. I really wonder if there'll be a better game out there by that time. :)

Yepp Oblivion is by far the most overrated game I've played (except for Halo but it's not everrated by PC gamers because we know better). I dislike Oblivion for the simple reason that there's absolutly no fun at all in the combat and the game feels like an MMO but pointless since it's not online with your friends.

Plain and simple this game would've been great 10 YEARS AGO.
1) Crappy story - so there's an island that has findings of alien tech and its let loose, and you have to destroy the island... wow, how original. Is like playing Doom.
2) Crappy gameplay - so you have a suit which you can set to run faster, give more strenght, jump higher, become cloaked, and more armor... right, like in the middle of a firefight I'm going to be looking at my keyboard, having to search for the keys to access those features. Why not have strenght, armor, and speed all in default? And just have cloak seperately?
3) Crappy suit - All those features in the suit, specially the only thing this game has going for it IS THE CLOAK, and it all lasts but 2-5 SECONDS!! WTF? Useless suit.
4) Crappy specs - I can run CoD4 all on high, I can run Gears of War all on high, I can run Bioshock all on high, but I cannot run Crysis past medium. Even when it is on medium, it fills up with characters, it slows down to a halt!! Waaaaay too much specs config.

The only thing this game has going for it, is the soundtrack, nice music. Other than that, there's is NOTHING revolutionary about this game, it is WAAAAYYY overhyped.

I think I'm going to have to go with Crysis. I played a good 4-5 hours of it. The only way I could win was a cheap way. Cloak. Pop out and shoot people. Cloak again. Shoot more. Cloak. I started to get tired of doing that after a while. I never even really needed to use the other powers except maybe Armor every now and then.

That being said, I do still have to give the game some props. The guns work well. The graphics are stunning. The voice acting/music is really good.

so you played about 30 minutes of it and decided it was bad? love your logic. Greanted it WAS overrated but for the amazing work with the game engine and visuals crtek deserves some props.

You hear CS all over the place because it's all over the place and nobody says it's over hyped, but nooo, CoD 4 is atm one of the 3 most played shooters online, yeah the others beeing CS and CSS :|, so over hyped? don't think so just well known and played by many people. Overrated? hell no. All of you who say it sucks because you can't interract and because it's a "corridor" shooter don't know what they want from their life/games. I'm....I'm still alive?! Yay! BG2 was...disappointing, people constantly hail this game as the magnum opus of RPGs, I had played and loved other RPGs like the fallout games, several people referred this game to me, so I give in, buy it, and start it up filled with the hype of a million fanboys. Then I get there...and before three hours had passed, I was bored to tears. I saw nothing that set this game above any other RPG, the gameplay was average, the story was the same mediocre "You are the chosen one" plot, the voice acting was good and some of the dialouge was interesting, but after having millions of D&D fanboys praise this game as a incarnation of divinity and all that is good and pure, it was bound to be dissapointing. Overrated in my opinion, but maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance at first. It may have surpassed your expectations and millions of others, good for you, you managed to see a great game, I however was cursed as one of the blinded who cannot see what is great about this seemingly above-average rpg. Maybe Ill give the game another chance, I only played for a few hours, so It must get better? Right? It has to get better.

I may wake up in a coffin, but at night I shall be rebirthed as a vampire and dry your body of blood :D

Definetly Cryisis. Everyone is 2 blinded by the game's graphics to figure out that the game has a shallow story line. And near the ending when you actually start to care about the story, it ends. I mean wtf! Sure it has a nice graphics, but if the game is boring... who cares? I feel like I wasted my money with this game. Seriously...Sinotek

i'm not going to argue about the merits of the game itself, but i don't think a game has to be orginal to be a great game. many games are just copies of other games. as long as you enjoy playing it, it's a great game - at least to me.

Throughout this entire thread I yet heard one logical response about why COD4 is overrated other then petty slurs.

You want it, you got it.

1. The single player is short, too short. This wouldnt be a problem if the single player was really good, but its not. It is extreamly linear and tedious, enimies dont just respawn time after time with infinitie grenades if you dont pass a certian point, its ridiculous to say the least.

2. multiplayer was good, but not great, it take sless skill then most modern games do as you just play enough and get the good weopans, then learn where people camp, and look at those places = win. The only mode that takes skill is search and destroy, that much at least i like.

3. Graphics where only slighlty better then cod2 from 2 years ago, they should work on that.

4. Did i mention how the game is from the past? Why oh why are there scripted deaths? do people like it when you shoot somethign and it falls over the same way every time? or how about not opeing doors? or jumping a picket fence? the game is medicore at best, and thus overrated
