Does anyone remember the 8800GT fan noise when above 70% sounded like high powered hairdryer. Until they revised the fan.

I just hope they can fix the issues with the memory controller, transistor leakage, maybe iron out some minor flaws and improve power efficiency? 'Cause in its current state I'm not getting it, not that I could since I doubt there will be enough for sale.
I'm just going to wait this round out. Too many things are messed up at the moment and from the looks of it they won't cause too much change in the current GPU pricing either.

its loud, but remember that the mic is being focused on the card so the noise is being amplified. I understand peoples dissapointment with this card though. As for me, as long as it isnt as loud as my 360 i dont care, and lucky for me it doesnt seem to be.
the noise isn't being amplified lol. they aren't micing it, then sending it to an amp and cranking the volume up. what they are doing is accurately measuring the sound. I dunno about you, but my PC is a few feet away from me, not 20. so they sould put the sensor close to it.

I had a couple of EVGA 8800gt's. Yeah, the fans were loud when cranked up.. so is the fan on my 5870 when cranked. Insanely loud.. much louder than my 8800gt's were. There is a big difference though- I can run my fan locked at 42%, keep my 5870 cool under load, and it's not loud at all.. I don't have to crank this fan. With the 8800gt and the GTX 470/480, they put out way too much heat for the cooler design so you MUST crank the fans up.. therefore you MUST deal with the noise.

well my PC is also closed, and my GPU is 3 feet away from me. As for amplfication, Youtube has an an unusual audio codec which always amplifies the volume of my vidoes much more than the original file. And yes even the camera amplifies noise from the mic. If it didnt then all we would here is a very light hush type noise that somewhat remembes the fans. Either way it still isnt as loud as my 360 so thats all that matters to me.
That's not a mic, I reckon it's a decibel counter. You should probably be looking at the numbers rather than attempting to listen to the sounds emitted from a youtube video as it is hardly representative of what you'll experience yourself.
The numbers can then be compared against those of other cards under similar conditions, for reference.
