Offical Black Ops PC Official Discussion - No Spoilers Please

I just played my first wager match, God it was so tense but it was really fun at the same time. I was playing sharpshooter where your weapons change every few minutes until it comes to the last round where you acquire a sniper rifle, thus the Sharpshooter round. What makes it fun is that you're trying to be top so you can rake in 1000 CoD currency.

One in the Chamber and Sticks and Stones are my favourite.

I love Gun Game. It's nice to see a dev finally include this in a game from the start. So much fun.

Multiplayer keeps not working here (36 hours out and counting).

I'm very angry about Activision and Treyarch. This is my first COD since COD 1 and they not only failed in the attempt to made a decent campaign -is just a linear shooter with underwhelming A.I. (I saw some zombies with better I.C.), bad executed cutscenes (no one can call this ones "cinematographic" after being playing the ones from the Metal Gear saga) and not replayable 5 hours duck parade.

But this isn't my main concern, due the fact that the single player campaign would be lackluster was out of the question. My main concern is that I bought the game for the multiplayer, to fill the gap until BC 2 Vietnam, and quality of the productions values aside (is hard to understand how a game with a multimillion seller profile that sells at 61 € can have a 14 pages black & white manual -almost no images, also- explaining nothing about the basics of the game modes) is almost unbelievable that the product simply doesn't work.

If anyone is trying to notice if Black Ops has a chance to win any award this year in the press, sorry if I burst your bubble, but Black Ops has no one. Dam it, can't even be considered a finished product.

I hate to break it to you but the original CoD had really bad AI and was extremely linear. The whole point of the series was just to load it up with guys on both sides and have you shoot your way through levels. There was never any tactics required, just fast reaction times and a happy trigger figure.

I'm going to RMA my EVGA graphics card today/tomorrow. I wonder if my old 7800GTX will run this game :P

Anyways, is there a way to choose what kind of wager match you play or is it always random?

I think it's funny how certain people think so highly of themselves that they won't even let themselves enjoy this game. It blows my mind.

Wager matches are the only thing that run perfectly for me so i've been playing them a fair bit so I have lots of cash when I start in on the competitive.

Sharpshooter is def my favorite since everyone has the same gun its totally even and skill based. There are also some ridiculous moments where everyone gets a really cruddy weapon and is running around each other trying to get knife kills instead.

I had my best ever match in Sharpshooter as well, started the game with a nice killstreak and ended with about 3500 points whereas the next closest person didn't even have 2000. Good times.

Gun Game I find kind of annoying since if someone gets two early kills they just totally dominate while everyone else is running around with pistols. Those damn dual pistols are incredibly hard to get kills with for me.

I was the same way before it came out. I swore up and down I would never play a "crappy CoD game ever again." I am so happy I dropped that attitude. I just can't get enough of BO and I finally jumped into S&D after 4 CoD games :P. millerlight89

I dont know, I played with some people last night, and we could only get to like 7 or 8 on the WWII one, and we got to 11 on the Pentagon first try. :P

Well, I just tried it and it doesn't. I put it on the lowest settings and resolution and it was about 15-25FPS (and looked horrible) :lol: This is going to be hard not to play it for a week or two... :(

Here is a fix I found on the steam forums and posted on the Black Ops forums, it helped me and has apparently helped others:

I've been subjected to a full dose of problems with Black Ops - out of the box it was unplayable, extreme stuttering and frame rates jumping from 60 to 15 crazily.

Patch did't really help.

Shadows off/vsync on helped smooth things out a bit but still the suttering continued.

Then i tried this (found it on the steam forums)

Go into your cfg. file (for both multi and singleplayer) and open it in note pad

press ctrl + F and search for "seta r_rendererPreference" without the quotation marks

It should say "Default"

Change it to "Shader Model 3.0"

Save.

Fixed all of the stuttering for me. Frame rate still isn't where it should be but it usually stays above 45 and never goes below 30. I know it seems like an illogical fix, but it honestly really helped me.

Give it a try.

In the Treyarch CoDs though, I've done well, I had about a 1.5 in W@W, and right now in Black Ops I have a 1.25. I think it's interesting that I seem to do better in the Treyarch games.

Thumbs up if you think this game is a proper successor to CoD 4.

I really feel like when I'm playing the game, it feels more CoD 4 than MW2.

Don't know what my K/D was in COD 4, but in WaW it got insane because I went sniper and regularly got 10+ kill streaks. Such epic sniper battles in that game. Loved the big maps.

Now in Black Ops i have a terrible K/D which is unusual for me, although i'm hoping it will improve now that I have fixed the lag. I find it frustrating that in kill cams everyone's guns seem to have like 0 recoil but the ones i'm using (Enfield, M16, M14) all seem to have insane recoil. Just got the grip for my M14 and the perk that allows for 2 attachments so i'm hoping that will help.

Where do you find your k/d ratio? I can only find it for each gun not the total.

Must be because Treyarch doesn't design maps with 45 doors and windows for every room and more than one Obvious Camping Spot per map.

I wouldn't expect any less from the people that made these games.

I only got up to rank 19 in COD4, and then I lost interest. MW2 for me was not enjoyable. Black Ops on the other hand is very fun. I just hit rank 27, got my AUG at 26. I love the customizations for camo, clan tag, decal, reticule, and reticule color. This might be the first COD where I plan to max rank, and I might even prestige. My W/L is 0.75... I don't know what my K/D is but I'm pretty sure it's under 1.0. Some games, I'm rockin' it with killstreaks and everything.. some games... I'm barely breaking even. I find that you have to come at each game with a lot of energy. If you're not amped up, you'll probably end up dying a lot.

The Commando is pretty good, I prestiged earlier today and miss it already. :(Levrar

All this game needs is some wicked user made maps :D

Campaign was meh! The rooftop level was awesome though. So were the jungle levels. Saw the twist when Reznov first came up in Vietnam. I think they need to hire good writers if they're making the most successful game of all time. It's simple right: Conflicts during the Cold War. How did this game wander off into mind control territory, biological viruses, Castro impersonators, and crazy Nazi scientists. And they're all like deadly serious like were supposed to be impressed and wowed.GeneralShowzer

I did enjoy SP though, and the story for the most part was good (until all the stuff you mentioned kind of popped up). The horrid haxor AI in hardened did make me rage though (especially in kai san?spelling?). Out of the modern cods, COD4 far and away had the best story and was the best of them.

As for MP, anyone else think the chopper gunner and the gunship are far far far too overpowered. Too be honest, I find the gunship much more easy to get kills with than the chopper gunner from mw2. The majority of the people get these from care packages so I wouldn't mind them taking these two killstreaks out of the care packes. I guess the main reason why they are so OP is because your team runs around like headless chickens and no one has bothered to create an AA class (I have the AA missile as my secondary for my sterling class).

Just did a CRAZY match of Demolition, it was one of the msot intense matches ive ever played in an onlien FPS. Back and forth, super even, great times 8)

Demolition is such an awesome game mode in Black Ops! Really really loving that, especially since the same mode was basically a 'nade fest in MW2.

I just reach level 44, all assault rifles unlocked. I'll reach 50 this week, so far. The multiplayer is fun but not much deep, ad the respawn system is a mesh, but customizing your soldier is very enjoyable.

On the other hand, the campaign is awful, but I bought the game just for the mp, so no regrets.

Fair enough, but I always have a class with the AA launcher that I can use if the choppers are summoned. However they are so crap when trying to take down either chopper gunner or gunship in small maps. They take about 10 minutes to draw, 10 minutes to ADS, 10 minutes to lock on. I was playing a game of nuketown, someone got a chopper gunner. It was impossible to kill it because before you could even draw out the thing, you were dead. The only option was to hide inside or die. Fun times....

I just noticed that MW2 is back in Steam's top ten sellers :|

can any1 hlp me? every time i launch any of the black ops game, it just get black and i get an message where it says "'couldn't load image '~gblack_8x8'" i've tried to verify game, but still gets the message, and i tried to reinstall the game...holylek
