Do gamers think Visat is a problem? I wouldv't thought not - it includes directx10 - only avaible in Vista and can make use of more than 3 gigs of ram - which is XPs limit. All pc gaming rigs should be looking to cram in the ram :) and windows vista is the only real option.

I looked into the Alky Project, which is trying to put the directx10 into XP - and it looks to be taking longer than expected, certainly longer than it would take for me to wait. A high end rig running vista and perhaps 4 gigs and a decent Graphics card and cpu will rock for years to come.

I was a little nervous about getting vista, but I reckon its what gaming rigs (real ones) are for.

spacedog1973

Nope. You haven't done your homework. Vista is no better at actually handling 4 GBs of RAM than XP is (both as 32-Bit). It is the 64-Bit version of each which can pass the 3 GB practical limit. Vista remains buggy, and needs SP1 badly. It wasn't ready for gaming prime time last January, and won't be ready until next January, when SP1 is finally available.

Ok. So what about directx10? Myself, ive been using xp for years and have grown to value it - but ironing out the bugs and other problems I reckon will still take awhile even after the first service pack. Is there an alternative to playing DX10 games on xp? That was my sole reason for the 'upgrade'.

Hello. I have a Packard Bell 3580 (beige) with an Intel 486 processor at 66 mhz, and 4 mb RAM. I am hoping to at least play Bioshock at medium settings? Let me know if I will be able to do this.

Thanks all...

I wanted to know, because I can run Spacewar with everything on max.

Anyway, I was just wondering how many colors Bioshock has, because my monitor can display up to 256 colors.

"Spacewar"? Neither of those were for the X86 PC. The original was for DEC's PDP mini computer, in black and white, and the next was an arcade machine game of vaguely similar characteristics to the original (too long ago to recall color characteristics).

Oh it is but...(not to be mean) you will never have the slightest chance of running it with those specs. You really need a complete overhaul :D. You could prob. build a budget PC for around 800-1000 dollars that will let you play Bioshock at decent settings.

There are inexperienced newbies here with no idea what graphical settings and image quality is all about. The 6200 is a terrible POS that can't play any game from 2005 or more recently at anything close to what real "High Settings" actually are, so don't worry about the statements of such folks (and also there are trouble makers writing blatantly exaggerated things just to start trouble -- ignore those Trolls).

An 8600 GTS makes that ridiculously bad 6200 look like so much manure. But the 8600 is still a Mid-Level card, not a powerful high performance video processor.

I am so frustrated, I recently purchased a new HP dv9000 17" Widescreen, and quickly scooped up a copy of Call Of Duty 2, because I have always wanted to play this game,

turns out, VISTA can't support it? I have Googled the SH*T out of it, but can't find a viable solution.

Can any one help me out here? I mean come on, why does it freeze up two second after launch?

Those are my specs.

It's mostly for Crysis, so...

I know for sure I can run Crysis, questions is: at what settings. all the specs are in the picture above with a few changes before Crysis comes out.

1. I'll be overclocking to 3.2GHz
2. I might be getting a new 22" Samsung LCD @1680x1050.

So:
1. At what settings can I run Crysis in 1280x1024 with 2.4GHz/3.2GHz?
2. At what settings can I run Crysis in 1680x1050 with 2.4GHz/3.2GHz?

Thanks.

But the 8600 is still a Mid-Level card, not a powerful high perormance video processor.

i'm putting a EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 500Mhz PCI Express x16 Video Card in my PC, its has an AMD Athalon 64 X2 dual core 4400+ and 2 gigs ram, will that run pretty much any game fine?

dude you dont have any problem running games for 5 years or so

i dont know about 5 years...but you will be fine for a LONG TIME before you HAVE to upgrade again

well i'm gonna be uber happy if i can play for at least a couple years before i have to upgade. that good to know, because i'm paying out the @$$ for it! :P

You might wanna change your graphics card. The 6800 might still hold up, but not the 6200. Try the 7 series. They're friggin cheap nowadays.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with system requireements and isn't complete enough to deal with if it were on topic.
