Official PSN Error Thread [PSN IS ONLINE/FIXED!!]

Ladies and gentleman I have a question about this. Does Sony want us to flip our switches to the off position? My PS3 is off at the moment, but I haven't flipped the switch located behind the unit. So yea my PS3 still has that red light gleaming.

The reason I am asking is, I heard about the CMOS battery reset technique, so technically if our PS3's are powered down completely than the CMOS will eventually be reset, and we'll have to set the time and date again. It happened to me all the time on my PS2 I always flipped the switch on it.

What will we do if they dont fix themselves when the clock ticks over? I mean thats only a rumour, Sony never once said that this could solve it, just that it might be the problem.

Take this for what you will, it's all completely hearsay so i'm not posting anything as fact. But I called up to gamestop cause I know a few of the guys there just to check and see what the latest possible date was that I could switch my FF preorder to the 360. (worst case scenario) and he said that his boss knows a Sony rep and supposedly they have a patch ready to go and that they're just waiting to see if it corrects itself before releasing the patch. Again, this is all hearsay so take it for what you will. Just figured i'd share the bit of info I heard.

So I have heard that it is mainly the fat ps3's that have been affected by this right? What percentage of them actually were messed up? I have a fat 80gb and it is working just fine...yentlequible

I talked to my brother whos a Sony games division tech, and he says theyve been working on a patch all day. This shouldnt go on for too much longer.

Well I guess it can't hurt flipping the switch off on the back of the PS3. I even disconnected the PS3 power plug for extra safety measures. If the CMOS battery doesn't recieve any power than it should reset. Like I said before, we all know how annoying the PS2 was when it asked us to set the date and time, whenever we turned it off on the back for an extened period of time.

Well I live in Florida and my brother's birthday is Today and we are looking for new PS3's like crazy all around, and nothing can be found, We checked the Target store and the internet and nothing, Best buy stores (more than 4) and the internet and nothing, toys r us, kmart, ebgames, game stop. website and stores alike are sold out, even AMAZON!. Now something is really going on here, and IMO it's not just a glitch. What do you guys think? is all this a coincidence? or you think there might be something around there?

Thats the reason why you can play it, any PS3 that was made from 06-08 is affected not 09-10.

What do you think all that would mean anyways... even if you tried to connect the dots you would just sound crazy.

Heres the main thing on my mind: A Clock error, trophies, or anything else network related, should NEVER effect whether I can play a game in my own home on a machine I own. Period. Its unnacceptable. Trophy integration teams? I would fire you people, instantly. You sucked from the get go and are terrible at your jobs, and now, even though I dont even LOOK AT OR CARE ABOUT TROPHIES, you've possibly ruined my gamesaves? And now my DLC content thinks its a demo...I cant play half the games I own whether HDD based OR disc based. People at R&D and product integration at Sony have made a terrible misstep. I cannot use something I payed for, because of a trophy issue or a clock issue? There is no excuse or idea you can conjure that will justify why these ideas are in any way related. The entire planet easily jumped over the y2k issue. A decade ago. Yet you geniuses somehow recreate that with ps3? And any trophy sync idea anyone speaks of is MOOT. There is absolutely no reason any trophie or clock issue should preventing me from spinning a disc around so I can play it. My god, it simply boggles the mind how some of these people even got a job.
