The problem with answering this question is that the question can be taken to mean more than one thing. The first possibility is a comparison between the processing abilities of the ps3 and the processing ability of your brain without taking into consideration any particular function. In terms of total number of calculations per second the brain is a far more capable system. One must take into consideration that the brain must be able to govern all of the body's functions while also receiving input, and on top of that it renders what we refer to as mind. Here is where the question may get somewhat tricky. The brain is far more capable in terms of operations per second. However, there is another side to the question which must be considered. If one were to consider the ps3's ability to calculate something like cross products, for example, to our ability to do that same operation using our minds, then we would find ourselves outdone by a wide margin. However, it is not logical to make this comparison. One could form an analogy between our tools for sensory perception (eyes, nose, ears, skin) and the controller, usb ports, and blu-ray drive on the ps3. Using these terms, it would make much more sense to consider our minds as analogous to a game on the ps3. If one were to look at the brain as a game console, then the world it renders (game) is the mind. What we perceive with our mind is what we consider to be reality, which has an endless amount of detail. Using this guideline it is evident that any game the ps3 could produce is by far an inferior experience to that of our minds.

i agree, first you need to define by what you mean by smarter. i do think computers will get smarter and smarter and even tho AI could get very smart, i dont think anything will ever equal a human brain unless it is made from biological compnents. like no matter how smart a computer is it will never be aware of its on mortality because it dosnt have one, so there we cant be equal, that also cant be measured in illteligence so, you define intelligence as being self aware? rather odd, since the scientific community considers intelligence as your ability to problem solve, complete patterns, etc. (ie: IQ test).since computers are being used all the time to problem solve, because we just arent able to crunch the numbers they can, its a matter of adding more advanced AI to the point to where they can figure everything out on their own, and take the next logical step. they may not innovate, but they sure as hell will be smarter. but honestly, innovation can only get you so far, they always use computers to do the number crunching, cause we just dont have the ability to do it effectively like computers. also, if you want to get technical again, computers wouldnt have a mortality, because they wont die. the meaning of mortality is the state of being subject to death, which they will never fall into, unless of course threatened by an outside source. survival instincts will come naturally with AI, because its logical to try to survive, god people are full of themselves as a race.

Actually it knows nothing. Whatever information is stored on it doesn't become knowledge till it is understood and because it can't understand the information that's stored on it itself it, therefore, knows nothing so we know more then it does.

the problem is, the way they compute "brain power" is theoretical. they take into account how much one cell can do, and just multiply it out by how many cells you have. the problem with this is, you cant use it all or you would die, for a few reasons. 1: a lot of your brain is used for sensory inputs, involuntary actions(like breathing, and your heart beating) emotion, etc., this means these portions will NEVER be used for computation, and cannot be factored into the equation. 2: the amount of energy it would take for your brain to fire everything at once would kill you, because of the seizures it would induce, and also the large amount of energy it would take from your body would kill the rest of your body. 3: FLOPS are not a accurate depiction of how well something computes, its just a theoretical maximum. read up on FLOPS and you will see they are only used to basically set a benchmark. other than that, they have no real meaning. so, in conclusion, your brain pales in comparison to a supercomputer, and is only slightly more powerful, theoretically of course, to a PS3. raw computational power, computers win. as for free thought, humans do win...for now, but how much longer? probably not much more than a decade or two :)

The ps3 doesnt have intelligence... it processes information... it cant think to solve a problem, it cant form a question, and it cant do anything that shows intelligence. Anyone else here think that being smart is more then calculations. There's logic, morals, compassion, honesty, loyalty, personality and especially what ever that make us humans human. I don't think we would have robots that are female, male, gay straight, different ethnicities, cultured, funny, silly, style, goofy, mean, able to create video games, music, movies, books, tv shows, and anything that makes life good. Anyone else here think that being smart is more then calculations. There's logic, morals, compassion, honesty, loyalty, personality and especially what ever that make us humans human. I don't think we would have robots that are female, male, gay straight, different ethnicities, cultured, funny, silly, style, goofy, mean, able to create video games, music, movies, books, tv shows, and anything that makes life good. Can anyone here imagine a robot comedian? How would the bot handle heckler? Could anyone here see a robot growing up in a **** hole creating a garbage band blowing up to star status? ragincoley86

If i think of a way to counter a move in chess, and a computer does it... the computers just processing information I thought of into physical actions but still did it better than the best chess player in the world. other peoples argument was that a human can process and calculate better than a computer. it would be almost impossible to program every possible move on a chess board. so most likely what they did, was define the goal, the basic rules, the major play types used, and added AI with fuzzy logic to make decisions as needed. just proves that it can process more, cause if the person who programmed it was that good at chess, guess what, he would be the champion of the world.
