Well, Long Guis are basically just the tusk turtles with more HP except they are immune to Death. So it's pretty much he same strategy - Debuff legs, kill legs, debuff main guy, kill main guy. It might require two phases of that though depending on how powerful your character are - they just have a ton of HP. It's quicker to use a summon to knock out the first legs, then just go balls out and when he rises up, do the normal turtle strategy.

One note is make sure you have SEN/SEN/SEN as a paradigm or you probably won't make it. If I remember, they ALWAYS cast Ultima first upon engaging them, so I usually start the battle with SEN/SEN/SEN. Of course, if you use a summon off the bat, it probably won't go off - not sure.

I also recommend upgrading Royal Armlets to Star and equipping one of those on each character - you can even upgrade it further to Imperial Armlet and star that if you want - probably not required though.

Hey, thanks, Naaros. I was using my same strategy I used for the Adamantoise, but once I saw how long it was taking to knock their HP off I figured I was just wasting my time. I only have to kill one, right? So I could start with Bahamut, buff and debuff, beat the hell out of him, pop an elixer, and repeat? I'm gonna give it a shot.

Yep, you only have to kill one. And yeah your strategy of two summons (with elixir) will make it faster, for sure. My first Long Gui kill was about 7 minutes long, as I didn't summon. Or I only summoned once, I forget. They are pretty resistant to both magic and physical, so it'll take a while to get their HP down regardless.

I heard there's a trick you can do to make Vanille's Death do 999,999 each time (while staggered), but I've yet to try it. Something about using Death and switching to COM/COM/COM before it goes off, so it get the increased damage bonus. :o

Woah, sounds fancy. I quite often switch paradigms while spamming death (instant change ftw!), but never while staggered. Granted I also don't have Com yet for Vanille, and you probably need to be fully leveled too, but it sounds awesome if true, haha.

Use Vanille's Death ability again and again. It's in her Saboteur Role. Stage 9.

Ok, spamming just simply mean: repetition use of (death)? I thought it was a glitch or whatever. ha. Thanks.

Lol you mean Rav for Fang, you should get at least fire from Fangs Rav crystarium it will help a whole lot. Once you do switch between Rav/Rav, Med/Sen and Med/Rav, he should go down in no time. Good Luck! [QUOTE="TheEldestGod"][QUOTE="naaros"]

I beat Long Gui today, really wasnt my intention it just happened. I was farming Dark Matter and decided that since i was whooping the Shaolong, I should give it a try to see how much more upgrading i would need to actually beat the Long Gui. Turns out i whooped him too, first try, 12 minutes...not bad. I have fully maxed characters, Fang and Lightning have their Tier 3 weaponsand Genji Gloves equipped, Fangs weapon is maxed and Lightnings was close but not maxed. Fang and Lightning each had 2 Imperial Armlets, and Vanille had Generals Belt x2 and Conoisseur Catalogue x2. I used the same strategy as i did with the little guys, here is my Paradigm Deck: COM/RAV/RAV COM/COM/RAV SEN/SEN/SEN MED/MED/MED SYN/SYN/SYN SAB/SAB/MED Fang/Lightning/Vanille All i have left is the Treasure Hunter Trophy and i've got the Plat!

Best way to do Vanille's fight is done using these paradigms (not all of these are required):

Vanille/Fang

SAB/SAB

SAB/COM

SAB/SEN

MED/SEN

MED/SAB

SAB/RAV

Start off using SAB and spamming Deprotect or whatever (don't use auto-battle) . Eventually, you'll have all the debuffs on him (but it doesn't matter, keep spamming them anyways), and Fang (the AI) will stop casting debuffs (it's a flaw in the AI imo). Debuffs cause the bar to go up fastest from my experience, but when Fang stops casting them, switch her to SAB/RAV, SAB/COM, or even SAB/SEN. Heal as necessary (which also makes the bar go up). Some people used RAV to make the bar go up, but I found debuffs were much more efficient.

Grats on beating Long Gui, HarDcore_RpG! I only ever killed one of those, lol; just for the trophy. I was already maxed on needing Traps by the point I tried killin' em, so there was no point when the other, easier tusk turtles can also drop Platinum Ingots.

thx naaros, i have all my traps so i too will probably not be fighting them anymore. I was wondering, if i, for example, upgrade the power gloves to kaiser gloves using dark matter and then i fully max out the kaiser gloves and then dismantle it, will i get dark matter from it? this can save me a hell of a lot of time. I'll try it out and post back here tmrw.

I'm not 100% sure. I looked it up on a wiki, but it didn't list Dark Matter as a possible thing to get from dismantling them at any level. The smaller, blue turtles that spawn next to the Long Guis on Pulse drop Dark Matter fairly often. I farmed them for a bit to get enough Dark Matters to upgrade my accessories, and it didn't take long at all. I'd say Dark Matter drop rate is around 10-20% from my experience. I got way more than enough just farming them for CP/gil drops, and you only need 6 Dark Matter to upgrade everything once if I recall.

EDIT: Just saw your 2nd post, lol. That sucks. ;/

Spam debuffs at all times until your health runs low. That's when you switch to the Lifesaver paradigm, and then shift back to casting debuffs until you run low on health again.

Just wait until you can get some Genji gloves and level up a bit more. It can do over a million damage total (it's multiple hits, so like 999,999+500,000). :D

That's when staggered of course. The sucky thing about the ability tho is it drops the stagger gauge to 0, but if you could spam it for that much damage, would be way too powerful, I suppose. ;)

Upgrading weapon is soooo expensive.... I can't make up my mind on which weapon to upgrade? Should I wait until the best weapon is available before upgrade? Any accessories I should I upgrade?

What is the best wait to upgrade? Just cash in all the "X" stuff before using the "bolt" stuff?

Thanks

The best way to do it is to use 36 Sturdy Bones (or other items you have) and get a 3x multiplier on the weapon you want to upgrade, then use all the bolt looking items. Here's a guide to give you an idea of what to do. DON'T BUY 4 ULTRACOMPACT REACTOR's, 1 with 3x multiplier should be enough to get a level 1 weapon to max, then you use the catalyst it needs and get it to the second tier, then you'll need about 500,000 exp to max it out, then you use a trapezohedron to get it to the ultimate weapon.

That's actually one of the easiest trophies to get, by far. All you need to do is get a pair of Genji gloves from one of the missions (51,62, 63 if I remember) stagger an enemy, then use Fang's Highwind and it should be done.

I got it the very first time I used Bahamut. I had a staggered mob of about five enemies and I just flared their butts. Trophy unlocked! :D

Ahh, cheater! lol

Like in most Final Fantasy games, I rarely used summons. In fact, the only times I used a summon to attack enemies were against the turtles just to take out the legs and once on doing Mission 55 (Neochu). :-x

Man, I got a little frustrated last night cause I was still having trouble with the shaolong Guis, and even though I was beating them with a bit of a struggle I NEVER got a Dark Matter. I was 5starring them and even had the appropriate catalog equipped, but out of maybe three hours of fighting them over and over I was rewarded zip. So, I decided to spend a million of my precious gil to max out snow's weapon the rest of the way and arm everyone with an extra round of Power Gloves. That did the trick! Those things go down SOOOO much quicker now and after just an hour I got 3 of the 5 Dark Matters I need. I just hate that I had to spend a milliion bucks. Why? Because since the upgrade the Adamantoise only drops Trapezohedrons! No Platinum Ignots! I had all the traps I needed without ever having to farm any, but now I have... TOO MANY TRAPS! :P

I've got in almost 90 hours. Even though it feels like a chore sometimes the game hasn't lost its fun and addictiveness. The Traps are what you need to upgrade the weapons to tier 3. You only need 6 of them. They cost 2,000,000 to buy, but they only sell for 10,000. What a rip off, right?

Yo TEG, gotta give you +50 for the awesome sig dude. I appreciate it, it's so smexy. But...is it sad that I know the exact part of the movie that's from, as well as the exact line he's saying at that moment? >.>

Haha! No, that's not sad at all. Its an awesome moving, and Kadaj is a phenomenal character. I'm just glad you like the sig. Seems the bottom border got cut off. You could resize it to make the whole thing just a bit smaller so you can see it all if you wanted to. Looks good anyway, though. ;)

Actually, I think I prefer it with the bottom border cut off. Kinda gives it a bust look.

Yeah, you're right. Don't worry about giving me credit, though. You don't wanna ruin the smexiness with peasant text. :P

What scene is it from?-Hoax-

...oh my god my mind went blank. He's either just beginning his speech to the kids, or Cloud just showed up and:

Kadaj: I'm glad you could make it!

Cloud: I only came for the kids.

Kadaj: See this man? He's our big brother. But alas...in our happy flock, he's what you'd call a black sheep...*raises arm to strike*

Marlene: Cloud! *distracts Kadaj* *Cloud grabs First Tsurugi and swings at Kadaj* *Kadaj jumps out of the way*

...and such.

You prolly already know this, but I think you can farm Dark Matter's from Shaolong Gui's.

Here's a tip: if you vendor all your accssories and upgraded weapons you get about 2 mil.

awesome. That means I can probably stop now and sell it all. I just ended up with more than enough Dark Matters and a little over a million gil, so I'm probably good to go!

Just sell it all, buy your stuff, get the trophy, and then load your old save before you did anything drastic and crazy. Now you get to keep your stuff and the trophy!

I'm about 8 hours into FF13, and it beat my expectations... After all these 'no townz!' complaints it really took down my expectations.

From what I've heard the game gets even better about 10 hours in, and I'm enjoying it a lot since the second hour.

Also, what's with the hate with Hope and this 'emo' crap I've been seeing.... *early spoilers* The guy lost his own mother, why wouldnt he be pissed off?* He isnt exactly the 'antisocial' type, or at least from what I've played so far (trying to help Lightning)

Other FFs I have played before are 4,7,8 and Crisis Core. So far, 13 has the best battle system imo. I remember playing through 7 and all I was doing was selecting attack in battles, while in 13 there's a good amount of strategy in which you need to use the Paradigm system or face a game over screen. The rewarding challenges (the Odin battle was the most recent) is great as well.

The linearity is bad, but I can understand why they did it. At least there's a bit of exploring (extra paths to take). Though, it would have been nice if the story is told better, because I was completely lost in the first 3 hours (had to reread events and terms the games' world uses)
