[QUOTE="naaros"]I don't think having linear character progression is something to knock the game for anyways. Sphere grid was very linear until the end, and FFXII's license board was horribly boring (imo) BECAUSE it was nonlinear.Sphire
Agree with your points wholeheartedly dude.
I didn't read the review, I don't plan to, gonna play the game anyway, just wanted to know the score and the pros and cons. I, like yoko did, expected an 8.5 from GS. And I too expected it to be knocked points due to 'linearity'. I swear people need to ease up off linearity as a con. I swear if GoW3 is anything as linear as the previous 2 GoWs, but doesn't get points knocked off I'm gonna explode! hehe, well maybe just get irritated.
The one thing that did surprise me was that 'linearity' was such a big con. It's basically the only real con listed there (again I didn't read the full review). If that's the case this game will be excellent for me, LINEARITY FTW!!!!
Though the comment on Vanille has me worried...no...not Vanille....nooooooooo.... ahhahaa.
Best 'pro' comment for me: Great Story.....I'm sold! (though technically I already was....)
Action games being linear isn't a big deal. RPGs being linear is a different story. It's all based on personal preference, but I personally am not going to enjoy walking through a straight line all the way down for the first 20 or so hours of the game. Especially a game as beautiful as this one. It's the type of game that I know a lot of people would want to explore and look around in and not be forced to continue the storyline. Otherwise, you're not really playing the role any more than you would in any old action game or FPS. Especially when a lot of the game is automated and your basically traveling along a straight line from point to point watching non interactive cutscenes. There's no reason to be confused as to why anyone is upset at the linearity of the game. Nor is there any reason for any of us to expect that anyone WOULDN'T enjoy getting right to the point of the game. Don't be so ignorant or brazen enough to think that everyone is alike in the way they think. If some of us were expecting to see a nonlinear open-world RPG, then I don't see any problem in being disappointed. And rightfully so, the game carries the Final Fantasy title, and therefore it's subject to be compared to past titles and if it loses some of the fundamental RPG elements, people will be upset. However, that isn't the only reason the game is being knocked. There are other flaws in the game so don't think just because it's a pretty game it deserves an elite rating. I haven't experienced any of the gameplay yet, and like a lot of others, I'll reserve judgment until then. Things like pacing and mechanics also have something to do with. But I think 8.5 is a perfectly acceptable score for the game from what I'm hearing from everyone. It seems the hardcore people who are hating on the game are giving it REALLY low scores, the more medial group are giving it somewhere in the area of 8.5 and some of the people who LOVE the game (and there are always plenty of these for every FF) are the ones clamoring for a higher score. All in all, it evens out. I would think most people looking to see if they should buy the game should look at the reviews and see what they think for themselves. The reviews make it look like a very good game so, yeah.
