Agreed, but I'm happy. So many excellent series this first round. Whew...Wow. Did the Knicks just give up? That's pathetic.

Hmm...no one saying Melo is overrated? Keeping the crappy Knicks in this game is an accomplishment. Second leading scorer was Toney Dougles.No_Hablo_Ingles
"Do what Toney Dougles Do". :D
We know Melo can score. Tonight was his type game where he could take 40 shots. They still lost even though he played great on Offense. Too bad everyone will be talking about his brain F@rt where he didn't cover D.West and the Celtics ran the clock down to .6 seconds. Once again... Melo is a great talent... but his Basketball IQ is awful at times.

HE shot 30 times... not 40. Getting 17 rebounds with it. Keep blaming Melo please. Maybe he will sick of NY and go to a place that would appreciate a top 10 Basketball talent.Where did SaintBlaze disappear to? I haven't seen him here in a long time. :(JML897Funny, I was wondering the same thing..

I find it amazing that despite the fact that his #2 man was an Aging AI and Billups, he STILL got the Nuggets to the Playoffs every year since he was a drafted. Making it more impressive he did in the West. Not in the crappy east where you could be several games under .500 and still make it."Do what Toney Dougles Do". :D

The team in Denver the past few years was actually really good with all the pieces on the court. Knicks were building a team that can win a championship. Paying Amare, who is an injury waiting to happen, that much shows that want to win. As good as Denver was in the regular season, I took them as seriously as the Mavs. One stars can no longer win a NBA title, not anymore at least (Bulls may disprove this).
Denver has some good fans, at least better then those fair weather Mavericks fans.

I don't remember saying Melo was overrated.
Just that he takes a lot of bad shot attempts; he just happens to make some of them some nights because he is a very talented player. He just doesn't have a very good basketball IQ at times. Even though he had a good game last night I still stand by my claim, that Melo wrongfully takes ill-advised shots throughout games.
I even know a Denver fan that says the same thing about Melo.
Stop holding his d*** around and face the facts.

That comment wasn't directed at you... it was directed at the person who called him overrated. also look back a page or two... I agreed that he doesn't have a high BB IQ currently, and needs to improve slightly on his shot selection. But that 's the thing, he 8 years into his career, one of the top NBA players and can STILL improve tremendously Something that I can not say about Lebron or Wade. Melo reminds me of a better Paul Pierce before Doc Rivers got there. There offensive game are shockingly similar, as well as there shot selection and tendency to play lax defense. Carmelo is not better then LeBron or Wade... now. But he will be. He's hardly scratched the surface. Everything I say is based on either facts ( Carmelo's amazing game winning FG% for instance) or a strong opinion I hold after research and barber shop talk :P. It is not based on me D*** riding a player.[QUOTE="Jagged3dge"][QUOTE="No_Hablo_Ingles"]Hmm...no one saying Melo is overrated? Keeping the crappy Knicks in this game is an accomplishment. But how does game winning shot FG% really define a player as a Great. Thats a stupid stat to base anything on..."yeah I take 50+ shots and I miss them all, but I make one when it counts." See how that empty stat can be actually interpreted.
Comparing Pierce's game to Melo's is funny, since Pierce will actually get back and flop; I mean play defense.
I respect Melo's game but he ONLY brings offensive to the table, and if his offense is off well....
Dwight Howard is still going insane on the stat sheet! I'm glad they won game 2, and hopefully the rest of the team has realized what they have to do now. Rose is probably getting the MVP, but Howard is certainly making all those voters have second thoughts on why they passed him up. Don't we have to wait till round two to see who won the award? I hate that crap. Here is hoping the Hornets pull off another upset victory against the Lakers.Lostboy1224
Rose hasn't exactly been a bum these first two games either, if it weren't for him the Bulls would be down 0-2.
4 seconds left and the Knicks had no urgency whatsoever to foul. WTF were they doing?JML897
I know that was definately the worst decision ever. Everyone who has ever watched or played basketball knows you should foul as quickly as possible but apparently Carmello doesn't.

But by your logic, Rose's performance thus far in the playoffs should reinforce why they did vote for him.

It looked like he was confused on if he was allowed to cross into the backcourt or not.

I didnt check but I think he had 5 fouls, so that is why he hesitated. Overall his performance was great. Cant dog im out for one play.I'm not a Knicks fan so I don't care what team Melo plays for to be honest. I like watching him play for the most part... but I just call em as I see em when he plays bad. He's probably taken too much of a beating in this thread in general... but his Basketball IQ which results in many poor basketball decisions is why many just don't love him as a player as much as some others do. He's a great player... but he could be better. Less trying to be the hero every game and more making the proper play. With that said... it was Melo and a bunch of scrubs last game. Boston should have won easily but didn't.
That's another thing. Boston looks old and ripe for the taking in this series. Knicks easily could be and really should be up 2-0 in this series. I don't think either of these teams will make it past the 2nd RD... but I do give the Knicks a chance to get back in the series. Boston just looks so beatable right now. This series could go 7 games.
I doubt Melo will turn into that kind of player. I guess its just the way he carries himself that leads me to that conclusion. Jagged3dgeDifference of opinion I suppose. Nothing wrong with that.
But how does game winning shot FG% really define a player as a Great. Thats a stupid stat to base anything on..."yeah I take 50+ shots and I miss them all, but I make one when it counts." See how that empty stat can be actually interpreted.Jagged3dgeAny stat can be empty. Look at Kevin Love. Do you believe that he is actually a better rebounder then Howard? Of course not, he simply is on a really crappy team. However, there is a reason why the greatest players in NBA history have the highest game winning FG%. You comparison is terrible, because that's not like that at all. That's like me saying Points per game is a stupid stat to base anything on... "Yeah, I score 40 points a game, but I shoot 100 times a game." That simply isn't reality. Melo makes a good percentage of his shots. He doesn't miss 50 shots in a row and make the game winner
Comparing Pierce's game to Melo's is funny, since Pierce will actually get back and flop; I mean play defense.Jagged3dgeRead my post "Melo reminds me of a better Paul Pierce before Doc Rivers got there. Pierce didn't play defense before Doc and I would even be willing to say he didn't play defense before KG got there. However, PP did have terrible shot selection, so much that when Doc Rivers got there he asked PP (Paraphrasing from a conversation Paul Pierce said he had with Doc)
Doc "Are you a great scorer"
Paul: "Yes"
Doc: "Then why is your shooting percentage in the low 40s"
So my comparison is accurate to anyone that remembers watching Paul before Doc got there.
Oh, and Paul Pierce gets accused of playing "Hero Ball" by Doc Rivers to this day. So the comparison between Paul Pierce and Melo kind of stands.
the KNICKS imo are the better team. If it wasnt for the stupid late and no calls (tripping) in game 1, most likely the Knicks would of won. You can say that about every PG that isn't named "Chris Paul" or "Deron Williams" Rondo has had games where he has has 8 TOs, same with Rose and every other young PG.7 effing TOs.... omfg.... Russell Westbrook is gonna be OKC's undoing sooner or later....

nope. Westbrook is by FAR the TO king of the regular season. i expected improvement in Playoffs, instead his went into a worse spree. it's not excusable.

Obviously I was exaggerating about the 50 shots, keep up
But all I'm saying is RIGHT NOW, IN THE PRESENT, Melo shoots many bad shots.
I don't really care if he was like Pierce in his early stages.
Obviously I was exaggerating about the 50 shots, keep up :roll:Jagged3dgeYou can really exaggerate like that. When you exaggerate, it should at the very least be... kind realistic and possible.
But all I'm saying is RIGHT NOW, IN THE PRESENT, Melo shoots many bad shots.Jagged3dgeHe takes some bad shots. I would say about 20% of his shoots are bad shots (how I define it at least), but I can say the same for someone like Kobe... [

No, don't think the playoffs should have weight in the regular season MVP voting, but you will feel just a bit like an a$$hhoollee if the player you voted for ends up laying a goose egg in the first round. Dirk in 2007! I would still vote for Rose this year but Dwight is so close in becoming top dog in the NBA.

Im not a Laker fan but I am also sick of hearing how Perk was the "X factor" for that team.
The dude is your 5th best player. It's not like KG, and Pierce didnt play its f'ing Kendrick perkins.
And its not like Rasheed Wallace didnt have a good game in repalcing Perk. he had like 11 points and 7 or 8 boards.

It's also not like the Lakers were completely healthy either times they faced the Celtics in the finals. Last year, two Lakers required knee surgery in the offseason out of the Laker starting five. (Kobe and Bynum) A third player was playing with an injured shoulder. (Odom) In 2008, two Lakers starters were out with injuries THE ENTIRE SERIES. (Do you think Trever Ariza might, just MIGHT, have done a better job guarding Paul Pierce than Luke Walton or Vladimir Radmonovic? Think having Bynum in that series might have made it so Gasol/Odom didn't wear down?) Injuries are part of the game. You win or lose with the players you have available to you. Been that way for generations of NBA players. Champions find ways to win. (You didn't hear the Lakers complaining during Magic's rookie year when Kareem went down. They went out and won anyway.)Please Log In to post.
