That's what I like about this whole thing.I don't like the idea of diluting the playoffs, but I do like the idea of giving greater importance to winning your division.

Also, it's a one game playoff. Short and sweet. The what really bothers me is, the winning team will have to go into a 5 game series with their ace possibly only being able to throw once because they were used in this game. I think it should be a provisional game. What if the 2 teams vying for a WC spot are separated by 5 games? How is it fair to the team that has performed better throughout the year?

Then you say "tough beans, win your division next time".
This. [QUOTE="JML897"]If I had my way they'd go back to two divisions per league and just start the playoffs with the ALCS/NLCS. I realize that will never ever happen though. I guess you read this article: We should go to two divisionsI don't like the idea of diluting the playoffs, but I do like the idea of giving greater importance to winning your division.

Andrew McCutchen signed a 6 yr / $51 million extension. Pirates got a pretty big home-discount there.
Plus he'll only be like 31 or 32 when he gets off that deal. He's got another contract ahead of him in the future.Andrew McCutchen signed a 6 yr / $51 million extension. Pirates got a pretty big home-discount there.

Pitching for the first time since July 2010, he threw 2 innings of shutout ball, giving up one hit, no walks. His fastball peaked at 82 mph. Woo-hoo! Moyer is back!

That'd require him to collect... let's see... 8 wins, 95 K's? Yeah those milestones seem reachable. The Rockies pitching staff looks really weak this year. I'd be surprised if Moyer doesn't make the roster as a spot-starter / long reliever, or maybe even as the 5th starter.
Dear AA: Don't trade for Blanton, he isn't an upgrade over anything. And that included Cecil and Drabek.
Andy Pettitte is apparently attempting a comeback with the Yankees. I don't see any room for him on the roster. Their rotation is pretty much set already.

Good article from Joel Sherman about the Jays and the tight AL East race. From the New York Post: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/with_talent_and_money_blue_jays_796LuKqhKbUBs1IzOyGrHK
Joba's season likely done. Dislocated right ankle playing with son.
ESPN
Too bad for him, it hurts the Yanks, but not by too much. It'll give some of their young talent an opportunity to compete for an open spot somewhere in the organization. I see a, "Trampolines are strictly forbidden" clause in upcoming contract stipulations.
Joakim Soria out for season after TJS. 2nd time he's had it

Sucks for the Royals. Aaron Crow probably the closer now, or Broxton.
Former 1st rounder Matt Bush arrested for DUI, and fleeing from the scene. To me, the worst 1st overall pick ever, especially since one Justin Verlander came right after him.

I found this article on Matt Bush really good. Sad how far he has fallen, but no one to blame but himself. Imagine how things would be different if the Padres took and could keep Verlander, Drew or Weaver? And how different those franchises that took them would be?

Ha! We had our fantasy draft last night, and somehow Michael Cuddyer fell in my lap all the way down in the 17th round. That guy has to be the most underrated fantasy player ever. Seems like every league I play, every year, for whatever reason, Cuddyer is left hanging on the board undrafted. He even has 2B eligibility this year, and still he fell.
I don't understand how this MLB opening in Japan thing is at all a good idea. If they're gonna do that they could at least not put it in the middle of spring training, and pick a better team (I understand the Mariners, but the A's?) Then to top that off it goes into extra innings and doesn't see a minute of live TV in the US.

When it was scheduled, they were hoping to showcase Ichiro vs. Hideki Matsui. That's why the A's are there.
Mariners are on pace for 162-0. Ichiro is on pace for over 600 hits. Can they keep up this pace? Yes! I believe!

Lousy 2 game Opening Series, why not a standard 3?Master_Live
Because they still have a few spring training games left. :P
I really didn't see why they needed to be regular season games, do they think the Japanese fans cared if they were watching official games? They just wanted to see Ichiro and Godzilla. They could have just had them take all the ABs and everyone would probably have gone home happy.

Early season/spring training baseball: great stats, or greatest stats? I for one am looking forward to my Jay's much more realistic 138 win season.
Jamie Moyer makes the Rockies squad. He'll be 50 this November. Good for him. He should light up the radar gun after his Tommy John surgery last year.

Go Nationals.
So yeah looks like they are actually expected to do something this season instead of losing. :P
Seabas989
I know Strasburg is rounding into his old form, but where is the hot shot Bryce Harper starting out the season? I would imagine he would spend most of the year in AAA, he's still 19 I believe and in need of some more 'seasoning'. The NL East should be fun to watch this season.

If they go above .500, then that will be good enough after all those years of losing. I hope everything goes with no serious injuries. So long as that doesn't happen and the organization doesn't make stupid decisions then they will have a bright future.
Expect more Nats fans if they start winning. :P

Not the way he wanted to start his career as a Yankee. Rotation should be C.C/Kuroda/Hughes/Nova/Garcia to start the year.
McGowan will start the year on the DL for the Jays with plantar fasciitis. Out rotation should be Romero/Morrow/Cecil/Alvarez/Drabek.
[QUOTE="JohnBean42"]Pineda to DLOleg_Huzwog
Jack Z (Mariners GM) probably saw it coming. That sly guy.
I bet he did. I think this trade is going to be one sided. Montero has tremendous potential and is not reliant on his arm to get the job done. The Mariners should be happy for a very long time, if not, we'll gladly take him back. How's A-Rod sound? We'll even pay his salary for you.
Ouch, Cecil was rocked to day but he said he "liked" how it went. Topped out at 89 in his 4 IP. Farrell said there are "definitely concerns". His spot isn't a sure thing...Laffey would fill in until McGowan comes back or he fails badly. Only need a 5th man once until April 25th or so.
Jimenez suspended 5 games for throwing at Tulo intentionally. Jimenez denied he did it intentionally and wouldn't apologize and says he shouldn't be suspended. He will appeal and not miss the opening series Vs. Toronto.
