General Social Discussions - A New Beginning Edition

Hummm...let's see - NES, SNES, N64, GCN, gameboy pocket, gameboy colour, gameboy advance, DS lite, PS1, PS2 slim, xbox, PC.

yea...no "next-gen" stuff yet. :( Well, actually, I just want the Wii :P

I don't have many, I usually don't keep them once I buy new ones

The one I owned: Intellivision For people who don't know what it is lol

Then I had the atari, nes, snes, N64, original PS1, Dreamcast, PS2 original (bought at lauch and never failed me :shock: still working today). I've never been a fan of handheld, only had a gamegear.

And now I own PS3 and a GC, waiting a bit and I'll get the wii and XBOX360

I have Atari, SNES, Mega Drive, PS1, N64, PS2 (original and slim versions), GC, GBA, DS and PSP... and one guy at work may give me his Sega Saturn since he doesn't care for videogames anymore. 

My next purchase will most likely be a 360, when Blue Dragon comes out. Like Celes, yeah, no next-gen in my house yet...:lol:

Well, first of all - that is the first time I played a Final Fantasy!!! Started out with Final Fantasy IV and VI. IV is what got me into RPGs in the first place. I was blown away! I didn't really know anything about the Final Fantasy franchise at the time though and so when I played VI I didn't really like it at first because I was expecting a sequel. ("where's Cecil?"). However, that quickly changed :P

I played FF mystic quest , Chrono trigger , Lufia 1 and 2 , Secret of mana , Breath of Fire 1 and 2 , Illusion of Gaia and few more that i can't recall at the moment.

I agree SNES had the best RPGs ever and as it matters the RPGs in PS1 i'll say that the PS1 is actually the SNES 2.

I never thought of calling the PS1 the SNES2 - but that does sounds like it. I can't say the PS1 is "silver" era because it also had a huge quantity of great RPGs. I really enjoyed playing that console. I'd call the PS2 the silver age - some great rpg titles here and there, but honestly, in my opinion, there wasn't nearly as much groundbreaking rpg titles as the SNES and PS1 had. But that's just my opinion.

For the SNES, I was lucky that in my town in Brazil there were two game rental stores, and they had great rpgs. I played Chrono Trigger (my first rpg), Final Fantasy VI, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire 2 (my favorite BoF), Secret of Mana (I think that's the title), Illusion of Gaia, Lufia 1 and 2, and others I can't remember. I just wished they had translated Bahamut Lagoon - My hope is that with SE's trend of remaking, does that to this game and eventualy it comes to DS, for example. And yeah, I do know of the non official ROMs and translation but still, I'd rather play it on a handheld...

Most of the RPG's I played on the SNES weren't available in my country, but luckily they had a foreign section available at my old video store where I rented my NES games from, they let you rent these with a converter.

I played Secret of Mana (first rpg), Secret of Evermore, Breath of Fire I & II (II fav), Lufia I & II (II fav), 7th Saga, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II (IV - first FF that got me in) Final Fantasy V & III (VI - the best one), Mystic Quest, Front Mission, Illusion of Gaia, Bahamut Lagoon, Romancing Saga 1-3, Seikendenstu 3, Secret of the Stars (have no idea how i got thru this), Super Mario RPG, Terranigma, DBZ Legend of Super Saiyan, Dragon Quest 6, Magic Knight Rayearth, Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, Y's IV & V, Albert Odysey I & II (love the first), Dark Half, Lord of the Rings, Record of Lodoss War, Der Langrisser (fav rpg), Sailormoon RPG.

Half of these were in Japanese so it was hard to understand, but finding out more about the games on the internet has made it easier to understand.

Wow that's a pretty amazing listing you got there, langrisser2005! Unlike you though, I didn't have access to the great japanese games. But I did end up playing some with the help of emulators. I do hope though that at some point those japanese-only games will be translated and go to handhelds or the online shopping on consoles like the Wii store.

How about PS1 RPGs?

Why you don't like mystic quest ? The main story with the 4 crystals and the soundtrack reminds a normal FF game even though that system with the battle fields and the battles that you can see monsters standing around the place is kinda boring and lame :P

I forgot about Illusion of Gaia!! I played that game too - I had a hard time with it though...

On SNES: Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana, FF2/4j(my first RPG), FF3/6, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, Illusion of Gaia, Super Mario RPG, FF Mystic Quest...and thats what I can remember as of now...

On PS1: FF1,2,5-9, FF Tactics, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Tales of Destiny II, Breath of Fire IV, Suikoden 1 and 2, Dragon Warrior 7, Lunar 1 and 2, Legend of Dragoon, Dragon Warrior 7, Star Ocean 2, Wild Arms 2, and I just got Persona 2,

I plan to add to both my libraries soon

Oh and for the record-SNES is the best console ever made-period-I have the same SNES that ive had since 1991 and it still works like new :P

That's my only problem with the Xbox 360, I'm concerned with all the major problems I've heard people have with it. I could afford a core pack right now but these errors I always hear about the system is putting me off.

Haven't played as many PS1 Rpg's as I could have since I came into the Playstation pretty late though this is what I've got:
Final Fantasy VI/VII/VIII, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Breath of Fire III,  Legend of Dragoon and Vagrant Story. As for played some Suikoden and Grandia, FF Tactics and Final Fantasy IX (which personally I couldn't get into, stopped at Disc 2).

Oh, yeah? What a bummer. I thought the new 360 Elite would be problem-free regarding the three Red Lights!! That's insane. Why would they release a new version of the console without fixing that kind of issue first?!michelle_moraes

If anything the current batch of Elites are back to near launch quality (not good at all)-reports of disks getting eaten again abound since MS being their nice selves allegedly put back in the launch model disk trays....seriously...if they were having a system with a revised motherboard come out....they shouldve waited to release the Elite but no-they wanted to get sales picking up faster which I think failed cause most of my stores had TONS of Elites in stock....I think word of the issues are getting out...I want an Elite...but im not getting one til ALL Elites come with the new CPU.

and to the guy above-yeah its getting absurd to have 3 SKUs...they really should just drop the Core-I wouldnt be surprised if yet ANOTHER 360 is in the works with WiFi built in (bout damn time) and the HDDVD drive, and a even bigger hard drive added on as the new features.

That is good to know about the Elite cause we were going to get one....frankly i don't care about the hard drive space b/c we can't download stuff from TV in Canada, but I did want the HDTV port....o well, no worries, i can wait :)

Wow... I'm sorry I must say this place is dead for having over 3,000 members... A Pokemon Union with less then a 1,000 people in it is going crazy with posts, compared to this union...

I think the Character thing and all Is really cool, but there is not really much to do here to pass time... Mabye Making an RPG Thread (like one of those Harry Potter Message boards) with the Characters everyone is so people can really get into it. Or Some type of Character of the month/week or game of the Month/week...
