Anyone played/finished Etrian Odssey?

I got it as a present awhile ago and now that I finally finished FF12:RW for the second time, I thought that I would try out this game.

Got to finish SOME of these unplayed game!

Is it any good?

Fenian_lostsoul

what it is about? rts?

It appears to be an old school RPG.

I started it a little last night. There are no pre-set characters (so much for a good story in my book). I have to create a bunch of characters.

I've played a lot of these type of games but I guess I'm not in that mood right now. Kind of want a story based RPG not a "take a anonymous party out an save the world" RPG.

Since I am rather annoyed at LOZ:WW, I'm not going to start LOZ: PH now. The end game sequence is ticking me off. Re-fought the battles and only have the final to go but I just can't bring myself to finish it. I really lost interest. Maybe in a few weeks I'll try again.

Decide to start Lunar Knights instead. Seems to be pretty good so far.

What part are you at?

I'm currently playing FFV Advance, and R&C mostly. Sometimes I'll go back to PH, and FFXII: RW. I play too many games at once...it overwhelms me and then I just feel blah and don't play anything at all. It makes no sense, I know. It doesn't help that I'm stuck in FFXII: RW. >_> I'm just really bad at strategy games - and I know....FFXII: RW is a super super easy strategy game - but that's how bad I am. :P

Vaan - you got done with it, didn't you? Do you think you could help me?

In LOZ:WW I am literally standing in front of the unlocked door to the very last final boss battle. The re-fighting of the other 4 boss battles in the game kind of bugged me and I just haven't gotten back to even open the door and attempt to fight Ganon for the last time.

Be glad to help on RW :) (I finished it twice. (95% completion and then 100% the second time)). Where are you now, Celes?

Hmm.... I can't remember that part in WW, to be honest, it's been a very long time since I've played it! I'm sorry...are you just stuck in the boss battles? Sometimes I find it that if I leave a game for a while and then come back to it all of a sudden I can just beat whatever I was stuck in.

In RW...I am in that one mission where you have to sneak into someplace with Vaan by yourself (still) and I can't seem to do it, I always die. I've done every other mission that Tomaj has available for me so I have nothing else to do.

I didn't have any issues with the 4 boss battles in WW. Since they were re-hashes, I won them easily the first time. Guess I got ticked that I had to do them at all and just walked away. Seemed like a huge waste of time and it bugged me that the developers made me do it. Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth and really distorted the view I had of the game.

In RW, you can level Vaan and the others more in the melee battles in the other areas (can fight these as many time as you want). Both times, I ended up just giving Vaan the winged boots to protect against stop, sneaked as far to the bottom right corner of the screen and then ran around the outside of the stairs until Vaan reaches the top of the stairs on the top left of the screen. Once there, just run for the top of the center stairs.

In that battle, running is the best method to get past them. Don't let Vaan fight even a little! Make sure he is always selected and tell him to move as soon as he stops. Little bugger likes to fight everything if you let him! :)

Ahh OK, that's all very good advice! Thank you so much! My problem was that I'd always fight that first guy on the bottom of the screen and then try to sneak up. I'd get pretty far but I'd always get caught by someone and have to fight them, and I could never beat him. Next time I'll just try running.

I think I might try it tonight when I get home from work! Thanks!

That was exactly what I did when I played that mission the first 3 or 4 times!

I'd then try to heal Vaan at one of the healing bushes but he wouldn't have enough time to heal before they caught him or enough HP for the run to the stairs!

Yep! That's exactly what'd happen to me!!! How frustrating! XD I'll try out what you did - so you didn't fight the guy at the bottom of the screen? Did you just walk around him or something?

I walked a very short distance at a time.. and managed to keep any of them from noticing me.. if you don't get too close they'll let you walk right by them.. (until the bridge where it can't be avoided, and just walk as fast as you can.. continuing to tell Vaan to go to the right spot each second.. lol)

I snuck around the first guy kind of in the middle of the first section, set Vaan's gambit to sprint and just told him to go to the to the top left corner (where the healing bush is). He sprints over there but does try to fight so you have to keep telling him to walk.

Once he gets close, I then told him to walk to the top portion (where the hole is to get to the stairs). Did the same thing when he got close to that point but had him go to the top of the stairs.

I did this route to try to keep the archers in the center from seeing him. He had about 1/2 to 2/3rd of his health but made the stairs both times.

He is natually faster than the other people here so he should stay ahead of them most of the time even when the sprint gambit is over and re-building.

If you guys are talking about the mission with having to talk to that one gaurd at the far end, all you do is. .
Get llyud the Mythril Gloves to protect against confusion. Then just have him fly across everybody ignoring everybody, talk to him, woolah. It took me around 3 minutes to finish it. XD
so much easier

Ah, that was easy too. All you do is set Sprint as you gambit, use it right before the first gaurd, make a huge circle and just run towards the end..

Yup! Made the mistake the first couple of times of letting Vaan fight. Was MUCH easier when I made him just run!

What does everyone think about Yoda and Darth Vader being included in Soul Caliber IV? I think it's kind of strange. What would their Soul Edge look like and what would their other weapons be like? Also, how can a regular sword stand up to a lightsaber :P?

I saw that too.

I kind of find it odd too but am very curious to see how good the light saber is against the swords!

Somehow though, it just doesn't seem right to have Darth Vader and Yoda in a Soul Caliber game....

owning both consoles-I REALLY wanted both characters on both consoles since it would make the decision much easier (360 in this case-no hesitation), but with Vader on PS3-I am torn. Im going to wait awhile and see if the other character is DLC, if thats the case then im gonna get the 360 version (I like using that controller for fighters since I use the analog stick anways on fighters)

I'm not certain which one I'll buy either.

I'm not a fan of the six-axis controller and I usually favor the 360 in any games that I buy (will be getting DMC4 on the 360 since it looks like the PC version is going to be delayed).

Would like to play Vader though.....

I think ill like playing on PS3 more when the DualShock 3 is out since the Sixaxis feels too flimsy for my liking (this is why I liked the Dual Shock 2 better)

Am I the only one that thinks that Yoda and Darth Vader will be little more than clones of existing SC characters?

When I first picked up this controller I thought that I got a dud. It is WAY too light for a controller. Feels like a demo unit...

I'm thinking that also. A simple skin on an existing character with maybe only small changes to make the character seem only slightly different.

I'm sorta thinking that too. It would be cool if they had the force :). I doubt they will though.

That's exactly why I doubt they're going to have it.
What does everyone think about Yoda and Darth Vader being included in Soul Caliber IV? I think it's kind of strange. What would their Soul Edge look like and what would their other weapons be like? Also, how can a regular sword stand up to a lightsaber :P?queen_valentine

I think they're a little out of place but....I don't care, Darth Vader and Yoda are friggin sweet! XD

yeah they are, specially yoda, the little guy is as fast as lightning.

I just hope that they do something special with both of them.

I would be kind of lame if they behaved like the other fighters.

He should be. I'm kind of interested in the voice line that they give him. Would be interesting to see what both Yoda and Vader say when they are defeated...

Has anyone played Suikoden 5? I was thinking of putting it on my birthday list but I'd like some opinions first ^^

I love the Suikoden games. I've played 3, 4 and 5. I don't have a fav. Each is quite different from the others so they are difficult to compare.

5 and the other 2 have good stories. 5 has a little bit of strategy and one on one battles in it also. They tried to mix up the battle types a bit in 5.

I would recommend it. I've played it twice. :)

Hopefully it's nothing corny, like Vader's "Noooooooooooo!" line in the movie.

I've played all of the Suikoden games (though not all to completion) and I would say that V is a solid entry in the series and a good game in it's own right. And yes, I'd recommend it. :)

The third one is pretty good (if somewhat overated) and is worth picking up, but the fourth one is widely regarded the weakest game of the series and is the one to avoid. The first two are hard to come by these days (and very expensive too: I've heard of copies changing hands for as much as £120), which is unfortunate as the second one is my personal favourite (and the first one is pretty good, too).

There was also Suikoden Tactics, which was an SRPG. The game was solid if unspectacular example of the genre, though games like Disgaea and FFT are much better than ST.

Hm, thanxs you two ^^ I think I may add it to my list then! I have heard alot of good things about the Suikoden series but I just wanted to be sure.

Aww, I'd think that'd be the highlight of the whole game! XD

Yeah that would be pretty neat actually :P

Hmm I need help, since I got FFT WotL I left my FF3 copy aside and I want to play something good for my ds(although I doubt I will find anything as awesome as Zelda PH), but I can't decide which game I should get. Since I haven't finished FFT I think I shouldn't get another strategy game yet(so no Advance Wars or Front Mission) and I have played enough pokemon games for a lifetime(I have nightmares about pikachu! ), perhaps I should try that Mario and Luigi RPG or one those Castlevania games, Metroid Prime Hunters is also a good option. Well any suggestion will be appreciated.

Edit: Almost forgot, about this article regarding the ds prequel of Assassin's Creed enjoy :P

I would choose one of the Castlevania games for the DS (Dawn of Sorrow or Portrait of Ruin) both of them were great games!

On the RPG side, Mario and Luigi is a good game. I haven't finished this one yet (along with a HOST of others :P ) but it is fun to play.

I like it and am planning to finish it when I finish Lunar Knights.

Did anyone else see the GS preview for Lost Odyssey?

Its on 4 DVDs!!! That is nuts. Guess I will need to find a way to not sleep to finish these games! :P

Wow that's more than blue dragon right? it must be one helluva long game, nice.

After some thinking I have decided I'm gonna get first Metroid Prime Hunters and after I finished( and if FF CC RoF hasn't been released yet) I'll get the Luigi and Mario DS RPG.

Blue dragon was only 3 DVDs and that game took over 100 hours for me to finish. I can't imagine how long Lost Odyssey will be but it looks good!

I liked Metriod Prime Hunters. I actually bought MP2 and later MP3 because I liked it so much. Haven't finished either (surprise! :P) but I have them!
