[QUOTE="coldness6"]I guess I would go with FFIV! I know this may come as a shock since everyone would obviously go with FFVII,but FFVII has enough good story and good graphics...I mean good graphics in that you can relate to the characters and events. Whereas FFIV,had bad graphics(plz don't start a debate about the graphics were good in thier own time or how it's a classic),so I would like to take a good look at Cecil,Rydia,Kain and everyone else! FFVI,I haven't played yet,so I may have gone with it instead but I'll stick to what I've seen :Pcrushgoil

It's being remade now:|

Yeah, I even have an awesome looking image of Rydia on my blog right now.

I know, and I like it(the pic in your blog :) ) but I was talking more on the lines of a good remake...I think I've seen some of the in game screen shots and they were horrible!(if my memory doesn't fail me). And besides it's on the DS,and I'm gonna buy the DS just for FFIV

There are a ton of great DS games! But that's just my opinion.

Truthfully, I haven't decided whether I like the idea of them remaking IV because the original on the SNES is still sooo fantastic!! and I don't really like when they change things. It's the same when movies get remade... I always like whichever version I see first the best, because that's how I'll always envision the characters in my mind.

That my problem,Yunie! I need graphical presentation in order to properly "envision" characters or whatever!

I'm with Yuna on this one. I generally prefer games to be ported rather than remade.

[QUOTE="AzelKosMos"]None of the above to be honest. I have played them all already. What I really would like to see is SE putting more effort into some original titles or some sequals to other game series of theirs. Vagrant Story 2? A non mobile phone Parasite eve 3 perhaps? S_Jake

Always VS2, which after playing it more I can understand why, it is a near perfect game... PE3 not being on mobile phones would just be weird, SE did the proper thing there *note, total sarcasm right there at the end* :P

Vagrant Story was super awesome! a second game of it would be welcomed indeed :D Or maybe perhaps a remake of that? Oh.. but then I'm thinking Square Enix might go and create a handheld version and whopdidoo, another cash float >_>

I'm still perfectly happy with the PS original. Now if only I could find the memory card with the save file I sank about 200 hours into...

I completed it 12 times at 100 hours a go. (at least I maxed the clock out, could have been more) I could beat the hardest boss in the game (Asuna I think) with nothing equiped at all. Two punchs. Bwahahahaha!!

Yeah i didnt care enough to power level in the game since you had so many defensive abilities...the more damage you took from the enemy the more you could reflect back at them.  that is an interesting way to get balance

I didn't need to power level either, though my tactics were less subtle. I just used chain skills as much as possible (Raging Ache, Power Shot and Temper were my favourites). This maxed out my Risk very quickly (though my cure spell became more effective), so I relied purely on good old-fashioned timing to bring everything down. It wasn't easy on the first playthrough, though.

About the only gripes I had with that game were that creating good weapons was nearly impossible without a guide (unless you had a saint's patience or were obscenely lucky) and that offensive magic was near useless. It's still one of my favourite games ever, though. :)

I personally wouldn't have minded if it was a bit less unforgiving. When it came to weapon merging, there was something like a 90% chance that the result would be worse than at least one of the weapons you were merging (though the game shows you this before you actually go through with it).

Yeah it just had a cheap feeling to it.  That and not all shops could work with all materials, without a faq you didnt know what to combine...bah it was my least fav part of the game.

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't say it was "cheap" given the vast array of weapons and combinations, rather it was just too complex for it's own good. I did enjoy making weapons once I got the weapon tables from a guide (though I made sure that I completed the game on my own first ;) ).

I strongly agree with the point regarding the materials: there was no good reason why anyone should have to backtrack (before the teleportation spell) to all the different shops.

I thought it was a pity that the spells were so underpowered as well, especially as they were gorgeous (yet slightly understated). All of the offensive ones were pointless: I always found that I could deal more damage with my weapons and I could save my MP for cures and buffs.

It was just a balancing issue: The buffs (and de-buffs) were great, but the offensive spells were slightly underpowered and a little too expensive rendering them pointless.

At this point, I should stress that these issues were trivial as the game did everything else brilliantly: the combat was well thought out and well executed (the boss battles were truly amazing), the graphics and sound were absolutely spot on (the artwork is some of the best I've seen in any game ever made), the story was one of the most interesting in any RPG I've played, the localisation was excellent and the game was also very tense and atmospheric.

Basically, if you've enjoyed FFXII, you should check it out (even if it is a different type of RPG), because from my perspective (being a huge fan of Vagrant Story), FFXII was a big Vagrant Story love-in and if you play it, you'll quickly understand what I mean (just be prepared for the minor deficiencies that I've mentioned and you'll love it to, I promise ;) ).

I wouldn't want to see a remake (changing anything would be sacrilege), but a re-release of some description would be most welcome. I suspect that Vagrant Story lacks sufficient appeal to warrant this, even if it does have a reasonably large cult following (it was overshadowed by the releases of Chrono Cross and FFIX on it's original release, yet for my money it was better than both of them).

Yeah, a port would be ideal. I firmly believe that "classic" games should be left in their original form.

I wouldn't want to see VS remade either, it's fine the way it originally came out. Yes, perhaps a port would be nice, but like you said, it doesn't really have enough of a following or has enough recognition to be worthy of one. As far as games go it is one of the most worthy, but alas it shall most likely not occur

My older brother had VS, but I doubt he has it anymore otherwise I'd ask if I could borrow it =/

I'm surprised they haven't done a Chrono Trigger remake yet, I know plenty ofpeople on RPG sites thatare crying out for it. Or at least put it on the virtual console or port it. I'd like a CT remake or port myself, I played it by less than legal means and I'd love to be able to play it properly XD

Lady_Bahamut

The number of hoops SE would have to jump through to do a remake or even a port are probably more than they are willing to do at the moment.

Again a port would be fine, but we'd be well served if they'd remove the load times that plagued the PS version.

Most of the team that made Chrono Trigger aren't with Square anymore. :(

Oh, I seeeeee. But why would that matter? It's still a SE game, whether or not the people who actually made it are still with SE.

...Actually, I don't know what I'm talking about XD I'll just shut up :P

Yes, SE could release a game with a Chrono Trigger badge, but I think that it would be very difficult for another team to successfully capture the essence of Chrono Trigger: I think that such a remake would likely be met with derision by the game's fans.

I don't see why they can't port it, but because the game was originally a SNES cartridge (therefore no load times), the PS port had to feature load times. These didn't ruin the game, but they did mar the experience somewhat. For example, one of the great features of Chrono Trigger was how enemies would bound out of bushes (and suchlike) to attack your party; In the PS version, the encounters were always given away by the game having to load them (there would be a jarring pause as you were running, which would signify a random battle).

Now with the virtual consoles availble for each system now, you think reasons for such high class games like Chrono Trigger would be ported over, although i'm guessing to them, its much too big a game to be ported over simply. It's strange a remake hasn't been done yet (even though 2 attempts were made) but with everything getting remade these days, it's no hard suit to see a Chrono Trigger one, unless they're waiting for something. Who knows, perhaps it'll get a nagging remake like the eventual Final Fantasy VII remake everyone's shouting about, could be simply - wait your turn!

Yeah, I'd very much like to see that along with various other games: Secret of Mana, Terranigma and FFVI should lend themselves to such ports reasonably well. I'd also ask for Seiken Densetsu 3, but I can't imagine SE going to the trouble of getting the game translated into English given that practically nobody has heard of it.

They also have to get permission by Sakaguchi to do anything with the game, since the team that made it was the Chrono Team, and since they have left Square, to remake, port, etc, they have to get Sakaguchi's permission, and the permission of the others that were on the team. This is what would probably happen:

SE wants to port it to the VC or PSP, Sakaguchi says a price for consent, SE says it's too high(it's probably a reasonable price) and says forget it.

I take it that Sakaguchi had a financial interest in Square when he left, then?

You guys are over complicating it-SE owns the Chrono series name and everything, the characters, everything. Look at the Xeno games. the guys who made Xenogears left-formed monolith-and got published by Namco and had to CHANGE all the names. And they cant even say its officially a Xenogears sequel (even though it probably is). If they get to Episode V (for those who never played Xenogears-at some point it says its episode V)-expect a completely different game with everything remade. Basically-SE owns Chrono- end of story. If they want to make a new Chrono-they will.

It's not always as clear cut as that. If Sakaguchi were just a simple employee, then yes: his ideas would be the property of SE. However, this article does indeed suggest that SE don't wholly own the rights to Chrono Trigger (and seems to confirm Cecil's point):

^And Xenosaga is said to be the prequel to Xenogears (ep 1-3) and Xenogears is number 4, there are still 2 more that are yet to be made...... There are still many similarites between the two, names are similar/or are the same, story elements, etc.

If it really was that clear cut, then I think SE would've done something else with the Chrono series by now...

Good article.  I like how they just put up the bullet points and didnt bother to show the conversation.A 50-50 chance for a port of Crono trigge sounds like a good time to me, but i think they were being a little generous with those odds.

I thought that Xenogears was Episode 5...:? Well it's a moot point anyway. ;)

I assume that you're being sarcastic when you say "Good article"? Well, if you can do better, then I'm all ears. :P

A couple of weeks ago, I'd have said that the odds of CT appearing on the Wii VC (in Europe) were pretty much zero (given that it has never seen a PAL release), but now Nintendo are releasing games that were never previously released on these shores (Sin and Punishment, Gradius III) my hopes are raised (a little ;) ). There no way of knowing whether "50-50" is a realistic assessment of a VC version of CT appearing (or indeed even whether it's just a euphemism for 'I don't know' ;) ).
