This argument is nonsense. People are saying "It's not my type of game. It'd be cool for younger kids", they're saying it's garbage, complete trash. There is so much hate spewed toward this game/toy (who gives a **** if it's a toy, right?), it's incredible.

Micronumerous

Those people aren't relevant to the discussion. You're new (lv. 1) so hey, look, I understand you haven't been here long, but idiots making a lot of noise and yelling mean things are the background radiation of System Wars. I ignore them - I'm talking about the people who are actually gamers, and are here to have an intelligent discussion.

The complaint of the people who are legitimately complaining (as opposed to people who are struggling to spell their insults correctly) is that they're being treated as second cla ss citizens by Nintendo. And it's hard to escape that sentiment when Nintendo essentially says, year after year "we'll get to you", and then says "we gave you Animal Crossing this holiday! WOOO! Get excited!".

The argument isn't nonsense - some Nintendo fans are acting *utterly obsessed* with this senseless "review score revenge" against the fans of other systems, to the point where they're ignoring their fellow gamers, and fellow Nintendo fans. And gad forbid you disagree with Nintendo's "glorious agenda" - fanboy pwnage is more important than their fellow gamer - and that's just sad :| These individuals seeking joy over a review score, simply so they can bash other gamers, don't represent the Nintendo I know.

-

The point at which someone takes more pleasure at laughing at strangers on the internet than enjoying the world of gaming with their like-minded gamer is the point at which I have to look upon that person with disgust.

This really surprised me. 1up is one of the better review sources out there, so this is impressive.

If the GS score is anything higher then 7.0, there will be pwnage...

subrosian

Based on what exactly? I don't understand this thinking.

Complaint: Wii Music is the focus of the Nintendo holiday lineup, it's not the type of software I want.

Wii fanboy response: 1up gave it a 9.0! Pwned!

-

Since the logic seems to be escaping people here, let's try analogy:

Customer: I ordered a pepperoni pizza.

Delivery guy: this Chinese food is the best in the city!

How is it the focus of the holiday line up? I thought Animal Crossing was.

And thanks for the moderation.

No, People said this game will be bad, they dismissed it completely as an even acceptable game. Gears of war is not my type of game but you don't see me bashing it to death, contrary to what people are doing to Wii music.

I admit i'm quite surprised at the score, and though it may not persuade me to get Wii music just yet, it's still an AAA score and should account for something if you indeed love gaming. It's actually kinda funny that Wii music only has two reviews so far, and both of them are AAA status. Again, since they are early reviews, they shouldn't mean much...... but damn it i didn't not excpect a AAA score to ever go with that effort :|

Miyamoto has been going around to schools in Japan showing off Wii Music. They've spent the last few major trade shows devoting a huge amount of time to Wii Music. Wii Music is the focus of the holiday lineup. Animal Crossing is their supposed "core" game, but of course even though I like it, honestly, it is a mass appeal game these days - it's not the niche title it was back when no one knew about it. It's not some "core" game that new gamers stand no chance with - Nintendo doesn't see a reason to push that this holiday.

Moderation? What are you talking about? I'm a mod now? Sweet - new System Wars rule "Wacky Wednesdays" - we replace all the fanboy animal names with fruit. Sheep are Pineapples, Cows are Mangos, and Lemmings are Coconuts.

-

Might I also ask (assuming you were moderated for a post you made) how I am responsible for the content of your posts? Have I gained the amazing power to force you to type something :?

You don't have to like it or participate, but to drop your monocle into your wine glass in shock because you haven't seen it before is a tad ridiculous. Not to mention pointing fingers at one fangroup.

Fakeboys and trolls aren't people. The legitimate concern from real gamers has been the content of the game, not the quality. Wii fans are trying to rewrite what the concern was, now that the game has positive review scores (something that *never came up* as an issue in the legitimate discussion). The people who are saying "omg, Gears of War 2 will outscore Wii Music" don't represent the concerned gamers, they're the background radiation of System Wars.

You know that, I know that. Stop trying to pretend away the real argument - it exists - it's not going away. Wii Music represents a lineup issue, not a *quality* issue. If the people concerned about the *lineup* thought Nintendo was a low-quality developer, they wouldn't be concerned about the lineup - since, y'know, who cares what games they make if they're no good at it. Obviously that's not the case since they're *clamoring for Nintendo* to make a game they can enjoy.

And frankly, as Nintendo would not be here today without them, and Nintendo is making record profits, it seems a bit odd that they don't get more benefit from that success.

Wii Music supporters are bashing low-level trolls and fakeboys based on a 1up review score, while trying at every opportunity to avoid the larger debate of lineup and direction. Why? The purpose of System Wars is not trolling. The purpose of System Wars is not bashing users - both of those things are against the TOU.

The purpose of System Wars is debate, and yet when offered an actual challenging debate, the Wii Music supporters seem to be avoiding it. I've had all night - at some point I must sleep. Surely someone can come up with something better than "it got a 9.0"? That's Nintendo's success for the Fall?

It's not about sales and scores, it's not even about the game itselft it's a large issue. When they make it the focus of the year, they spend tons advertising it, developing it, pushing other projects back for it. those 5-10 people could have been working on something else.

It's just a big boot to the people who held Nintendo up, it kind of echos Microsoft trying so hard in Japan, but the difference is Microsoft didn't neglect there original userbase just to get ahead in one area.

Line up direction? People like you keep ignoring the facts more than any one else has. What has MS released? The last game they truly made and released was Halo 3 and that was last year. What was the last Sony game? That was Uncharted and that was last year as well. What line up direction are you talking about?

Seriously, Nintendo has done more than MS and Sony. 3rd parties need to step up for the Wii. Simple as that. 2009 is looking good. If you didn't notice, TGS was won by Nintendo and they weren't even present while MS and Sony floundered. That's why I don't like your self-righteous attitude. You don't represent all long time Nintendo fans and you're complaining about one game. Who cares if Miyamoto goes around promoting Wii Music? Isn't that what any smart developer does?

And who cares if Animal Crossing has mass appeal? Don't we want good games to sell so that we can see more in the franchise? What kind of looney complaint is it that it has mass appeal now instead of niche appeal?

Right, and with MS' JRPG efforts, there are quite a few 360 owners who want to see more JRPGs. Getting games like FF XIII onto the system is a big accomplishment. 360 owners in the US are benefitting from MS' investment in Japan. When Nintendo does something like Animal Crossing, you can see how longtime gamers benefit. "Hey we're getting a mic!" and "hey, we have an AC game with DS support!". Okay, fair enough.

How does Wii Music, the *primary focus* of the Wii holiday push, benefit the longtime supports of Nintendo? How does this being the pillar of the tradeshows the past few months, and the focus through the end of 2008, match with the expectations of longtime supporters? Not well, not well *at all*. Hell, I even saw Willy105 raise an eyebrow (granted outside of SW) at some of what's going on this holiday.

I've seen on the Wii boards people basically going "Well, Nintendo doesn't really need to put out games this holiday, because the Wii is going to be sold out anyway". And hey, that's true, hence why Nintendo is pushing so many games into Spring, a historically slow time for system sales. But y'know, that's a frustrating thing - that's not a fair thing to those longtime supports. Nintendo is making record profits, and yet they're not doing much to say thanks to those people who have been there since the NES. That's all, a little spotlight, a little recognition. Saying "we have something for longtime gamers - Animal Crossing" says to me "we read your letters of concern, and feel they are best used to line bird cages".

If you think I'm shifting the argument think again, i'm not buying a single Wii game this holiday season, and I know it was a mistake on Nintendo's part. There is concern, but there is also hate. Wii music was said to be horrible and this review smites them back in the face.

I KNOW Wii's holiday is probably the worst holiday any console had to go through.. ever. but that is only one of the reasons Wii music is hated so much, there is more to it though.Riddle me this then, do you honestly believe that the Wii music criticismwould simply fade had nintendo released a hype worthy hardcore game alongside it?

Quality is why people hate this game, more so than content. You may view it in your own perspective, but that doesn't make it the general opinion.

I don't imagine there will be too many other reviewers willing to expand their definition of a game just for Wii music, so props to the reviewer.

To Subrosian: Is it any wonder that Nintendo is making Wii music the focal point of their holiday season when it fits perfectly with their philosophy. The game is all about being creative, having fun and actually making music as opposed to earning points by hitting a series of buttons at the right time.

If anything Wii Music will be a fascinating experiment with regards to how reviewers will respond to it, even more so than Wii Fit.

First off, this is what you said:

The argument isn't nonsense - some Nintendo fans are acting *utterly obsessed* with this senseless "review score revenge" against the fans of other systems, to the point where they're ignoring their fellow gamers, and fellow Nintendo fans. And gad forbid you disagree with Nintendo's "glorious agenda" - fanboy pwnage is more important than their fellow gamer - and that's just sad :| These individuals seeking joy over a review score, simply so they can bash other gamers, don't represent the Nintendo I know.

-

The point at which someone takes more pleasure at laughing at strangers on the internet than enjoying the world of gaming with their like-minded gamer is the point at which I have to look upon that person with disgust.

subrosian

That describes SW pretty well. Go look in the LBP sticky thread--last I checked, cows were busy laughing at lemming damage control rather than discussing their new AAA game. That's what we do here. You say the purpose of SW isn't trolling and bashing, I'd say it's about coming as close as you can within the rules. Sure, we can have actual debate, but that's not what people come here for. ;)

No one here is actually supporting Wii Music. The only people posting here are Wii Music bashers, sheep who just find this funny because we're not expecting Wii Music to score well at all, and someone trying to create an argument in a silly thread about a silly game. No one wants to debate--in the end, we all pretty much agree here.

Third parties, for the most part, are going to follow Nintendo's lead on the console. They see Nintendo making money hand over the fist on Wii Fit and the seem them promoting the heck out of Wii Music, and they try to go in similar directions. They're not all going to go out on a limb with big-budget games, when they know that the 360 and PS3 have that market locked down tight.

Seriously, Nintendo has done more than MS and Sony. 3rd parties need to step up for the Wii.

Zhengi

Yes, because third parties have some evil conspiracy to only publish their hardcore games on the PS3 and 360  How about asking the more honest question - what has Nintendo done for third parties? Nothing. They don't provide funding, they don't make concessions, they don't work with them, they don't provide the money to make core games. Nintendo doesn't go to third parties and say "we want to pay you to put games on our system for our core audience".

Microsoft, by year's end, will have published all of these retail games:

  • Banjo: Nuts and Bolts
  • Fable II
  • Gears of War II
  • Lost Odyssey
  • Too Human
  • Viva Pinata: TP
  • Ninja gaiden 2
  • Kingdom Under Fire: CoD
  • Lips
  • Scene It? Box Office Smash
  • You're in the Movies!

In addition that that, they've funded and published thirteen XBLA games. The focus of their Fall lineup is GeoW 2 / Fable 2 for the core audience, and Lips, Scene It?, and You're In the Movies! They're putting out the same "new gamer" type games for that audience, but they're not sacrificing their longtime fans to do it. Microsoft technically also started the Infinite Undiscovery IP on the 360, though SE became publisher.

-

And Sony? Really? Nothing? Guess you haven't heard of Little Big Planet - that's a whole lot of nothing, right? One of the most creative, unique, and interesting games of the year is nothing?

-

It's Nintendo's fault the third parties aren't producing. They give them no incentive to - in fact - they intentionally push away third party titles that could detract from the sales of their own first party titles. They make themselves the primary provider of quality games on the Wii, they push away the third parties, they set the direction for the system with their conferences, and push away the core gamers onto other platforms.... and then you blame the *third parties* that the environment is not conducive to focusing their development efforts on the Wii?

Nintendo fills a moat with lava, and yet somehow they're innocent?

No one wants to debate

Tsug_Ze_Wind

Au contraire. I'm holding you to a higher standard. Will the stalwart champions of the Wii Music rise to the occasion, or will they admit hypocrisy, confess they too are miffed at having to wait for the good stuff, and return to bashing easier targets?

Six years ago the person in your place would have been armed with "Nintendo is creativity". They would have been a bristling death trap, a pain in the rear, stubborn debater, skilled tactician, gifted orator, and undeniable force of persuasion. Men would tremble, buildings would fall, the very code of the forums would bend to their will. Now? Well I suppose it's hard to build an empire when your kings spend their free time cavorting with preschoolers and eating donuts.

Ah the champions of the Gamecube (not here... on other sites, in other times, in other places)... those were rebels. Those were valiant gamers... and you've lost them, they're gone from your camp. What now? A cheap laugh and a back-handed loyalty?

this thread is really long. are there really Wii Music SUPPORTERS?

Tsug_Ze_Wind

Where? :?

We don't know - we're looking for them. Surely, as this is the Wii's holiday focus, there must be a single *genuine* Wii Music supporter here? Anyone? Good lord, have we really reached the point where the Wii fans are agreeing with the Wii detractors?

I feel as though I'm going to get a phone call from satan any minute about the icy weather.

No one wants to debate

subrosian

What now? A cheap laugh and a back-handed loyalty?

in this case, everyone has been a detractor of the game. since we saw Miyamoto embarassing himself on stage. with the spikey haired drummer. nobody liked what they saw. I must have misunderstood the small segments of you guy's conversation that i read. I guess we're all on the same page here.

to like it? they don't have to be. to ardently defend it from all nay-sayers? after previously being of the same opinion AS the nay-sayers? without ever playing it for themselves? sorry, but that takes some serious fanboyism. IMHO.Dreams-Visions

Ok...I will give you that. Your right to change one's opinion like that with out playing the game themselves would be kinda crappy. Your last post made you sound more like a fanboy though then what you intended.

Seriously, Nintendo has done more than MS and Sony. 3rd parties need to step up for the Wii.

subrosian

Yes, because third parties have some evil conspiracy to only publish their hardcore games on the PS3 and 360  How about asking the more honest question - what has Nintendo done for third parties? Nothing. They don't provide funding, they don't make concessions, they don't work with them, they don't provide the money to make core games. Nintendo doesn't go to third parties and say "we want to pay you to put games on our system for our core audience".

You mean Nintendo doesn't treat third parties like helpless babies? Good! I'm sick of such helpess companies. Nintendo has always taken a hands-off approach with third parties but that doesn't mean they don't support them. World of Goo and Fatal Frame would likely never have gone to the Wii if Nintendo hadn't stepped in and ensured otherwise.

Hey, don't slap me with that dueling glove. That hurts.

Seeing as it's past midnight 'round here, I'm afraid I'll have to do neither, for I'm coming off a nasty bug and I need sleep. But I will say this: I was a person in my place six years ago (give or take), and my past self would likely envy my future position...or something. :?

Less shovelware more quality games nintendo. You have proven that gems can be on the Wii, even if this game scores AA I'll still call it shovelware because I know who the game is marketed and aimed at. Oh also......

Tatsunoko vs Capcom.. US side... Do it. And try to get a new Ip out this gen.. made by you.. for us gamers :)

Right which is exactly the point. Nintendo doesn't even have real "supporters" on this, they've got a handful of people on the forums here who "chose" the Wii and like to claim "ownage" over a good review score, and yet when it's time to stand up and be counted for the actual debate, say "eh, I don't really like that game".

...the lineup is being defended... and yet, there are no fans. They don't care about the game - but don't you dare use it to question their system! It's an interesting double standard, and it's really just amazing how weak the pro-Wii lineup argument has become over the past few months. It's not a bad system - but I'm always curious where the debate with it lies, and well, when it reaches this point Tsug may be correct to imply there's no debate to be had... the Wii defender doesn't have ground to stand on with this holiday.

Other than, I suppose, this new (and rather foolish) tactic of blaming third parties for not jumping in and fighting Nintendo on the direction of the system. I'm not even certain I feel a need to address that, does anyone here *really* want to try and hold that as their argument? If so y'know, I can come back Sunday when I have some free time for handing out the throwdown, but I mean, reaaaaaaally? Really? This is the debate you want to take? This is what you want me to take off the kid gloves for?

-

I'll leave it at that for the time being - there isn't a "defense" - just a few Wii fans having fun with the background trolls of the forum.

You can't really judge a game by looks sometimes. I agree with you the game looks piss poor. Then again the only people I know which have played it told me that they found it fun. There has been other games like Lode Runner which I though looked really bad. But then upon playing it I rather enjoined the game.

So who knows maybe this game is good. We will have to wait for a few more reviews before holding out to much judgement.

I really don't care for that argument either. But for another reason I feel there are a number of good third party games coming out this year for the Wii. They are just not the show stoppers or AAA titles Gears, RFOM or many others will be. Another way to look at it is that I feel some of these Nintendo fans calling on third party companies to help them out. Forgot that there was almost no help when the GC was out so why do they expect it now. Even the Gamecube was a great system but still had to be a great second system because there was a huge gap sometimes between great games.

Maybe the Wii will get more third party support due to it's high sales. We really will not find out until mid next year what the turn out might be. Until then or even maybe not then this blaming third party thing has got to go. It really makes other Nintendo fans look bad.

I'm hoping this is an isolated incident. Hopefully others will flop this game properly. I noticed it was a girl who reviewed Wii Music......yeah thats right I went there. What do girls know about good games? Bread_or_Decide

According to a recent study, 40% of all gamers in North America are women.
