"I'm no fanboy," he says, but there's no doubt he's a 360 fan. He purchased his first machine a month after the console launch, but, since then, Justin has not had a working system for longer than a month or two. The list of problems is almost comically large: three red lights of death, two with disc read errors, two dead on arrival, several with random audio and video-related issues and one that actually exploded.

In an MP3 that Justin shared with 1UP -- which you can listen to below -- he asks a service representative to read off his support/repair request numbers. After opening the account, the rep lets out an audible laugh. He reads them off and confirms they are under Justin's account. Just to be sure, 1UP called into Xbox Live support with Justin's contact info and asked for the same information. Again, the person on the other end laughed when they accessed Justin's account, remarking, "It looks like you have a lot of numbers."

That is freakin' horrible.. I cant believe he kept getting them replaced. I would've stopped after the 3rd or 4th console, but 11? I wouldve just said the big "!@#$ you" to the console.

yeah, the lemmings can say how great their games are, but good luck on finding a system that works to play them.

Honestly if mine breaks down again, I'm just going to send it in, have it fixed, then put my own friggin fans or cooling system inside it.

Yeah Igot mine around this time last year. The failure rate of 360 is higher than normal, but on the 11th you have to think it is user error.

You know, it's stuff like that which makes me believe the 30% figure. Let's say that the 11th system is still working (didn't read whole article, I see 11 X360's, so assuming 11th is good)...

That means that including Justin's one working unit THIRTY-THREE other people need to have never returned there system ever. And as I've known 5 other people with 360's (and I have one) and three have already made a return, one knows he'll have to as it keeps freezing more and more, one has a launch working perfectly, and I've had to make a return (and I colect these things, so I take great care of my systems), I don't find it hard to believe.

Unless he's punting the in-box unit, it's hard to explain those DOA units :\

What I find funny in that is.. First off, yes i know it may not be best stablehardware wise of this gen. But when I see inviduals who own launch or so and then look over to see people who went through multiple replacements (on their 5th+plus), there something wrong along the lines. Was their a reoccuring factor that made this happen or what? Whether user or the replacing portion, something is on a repeating process. How does one person with launch go through it and keep it, yet another inviduaul has to go through a ton?

Did you read the link?

When his third 360 broke, one customer service rep suggested he look into the wiring at his house; electricity problems could have been causing the mess-ups. Problem: none of his other systems (not to mention his several computers and other electronics) have experienced any major problems, and his father is, coincidentally, an electrician. The specific suggestion was brought up by Microsoft customer service again after the eighth console repair. This time, just to be certain, Justin had a contractor come to the house and check the wiring, where he was told that everything was in order, with no abnormalities in voltage of any of house outlets. Nevertheless, customer service has continued to suggest this as a potential cause.

He actually cares about his !@#$. I doubt this is user error especially since he called a contractor to check out the wiring.

Yeah, it's a hardware issue. Even given everything else that could be his fault (bad surge protector, crappy TV (sound & video)), it doesn't explain 2 DOA units. And to come up with two DOAs of a product not made by a no-name manufacturer is pretty sad

It has to be a hardware issue. If all this is really just fanboy nonsense, then there would be just as many false reports for the ps3 and wii.

Where does it say anything about taking out 6 city blocks? You do know that an explosion does not have to be big.. I had my PSU in my computer explode on me, all it was was a quick flash of light and a noisy pop.

It's not like it's a link to 1up forums or sp0ng news, it's a link to a published article CONFIRMED by 1UP, of Ziff Publications. If they didn't do fact checking on this, Ziff could be sued for libel and even slander (audio from MP3) for publishing a false artcle like this by Microsoft. And no one wants to fight microsoft's lawyers. So stop making excuses.

Not necessarily. I never heard much of the Sony exploding batteries, and they recalled the whole lot of them. It's very possible for a single 360 to explode with no repercussions for MS.

What about his claim of 11 broken 360s? Do you know what the odds are of something like that, even if the 30% rate of defection is true? . In other words, HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

His "claim". Its been confirmed by IGN themselves. They called the Custormer Reps and confirmed the service numbers... He went through 11 360s. As unbelievable as it sounds, it happened.

Yagami-Iori

the 30% number came from a retail store, which would only see the first unit pretty much. after that it is done through MS, which means that 30% would be legit, first time failures.

My anecdote vs. yours. I didn't see much of it, you didn't see any of this, but Sony's thing was a bigger deal.

I only found out through the internets and my dad (because my sister had one of the laptops).

Now, I don't really pay attention to the news, but still.

wow if my 360 was like that i would have stopped at like the second one. but my 360 is starting to break. the wrong leds light up when the system is on (so player one lights up the player 2 led and player two lights player 3 led etc.) the back is openeing, probably due to heat. and i have to hit the disc tray to open it sometimes. I used to bash people who calimed that 360s dont break unless under extreme user stupidity, but i guess i was wrong. sorry to whoever i flamed.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="Jandurin"]Not necessarily. I never heard much of the Sony exploding batteries, and they recalled the whole lot of them. It's very possible for a single 360 to explode with no repercussions for MS. asdasd

What about his claim of 11 broken 360s? Do you know what the odds are of something like that, even if the 30% rate of defection is true? 330-11. In other words, HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

His "claim". Its been confirmed by IGN themselves. They called the Custormer Reps and confirmed the service numbers... He went through 11 360s. As unbelievable as it sounds, it happened.

So? He could've put one in the oven and turned the light on. That'd kill a 360 in seconds flat.

He must have tampered with it or something. Its just statistically not sound even if it was true that 3 out of every 10 360s were faulty. He'd have to atleast buy 32.5 or something.

my system works fine, thank you. 11 consoles? Seriously? Something's wrong and I don't think it's the 360. I'm not saying that the 360 doesn't have a high failure rate, but 11?

Exactly. What's to stop him from causing these malfunctions? Instances like that HAVE happened before, orcestrated by people desperate for attention and loot.

But if MS replaces the consoles with other refurbished consoles, why wouldn't it make sense that they would just break over and over again?

If he was getting a new console every time, then i'd agree, he's doing something seriously wrong, but he's not. He just got unlucky, and all of the refurbs he got were the really bad ones of the batch.

No,it just means that there is 3/10 chance for a 360 to fail.

[QUOTE="sonicare"][QUOTE="asdasd"]

[QUOTE="sonicare"]It would have been more believable had they said 6 or 7 and not made up the "exploded" quote.Verge_6

Listen to the audio clip that he provided.. They confirm he had 11 consoles break..

11 breakdowns is hard to believe, but the exploding one? Yeah, I flatly refuse to believe this.

And explode? Taking out 6 city blocks? Yes, some random MP3 file is all the proof I need.

11 console breakdowns is hard to believe, at best. But an exploding 360? i flatly refuse to believe all this has happened to him. That would have made the news.

Come on, Verge... I thought you were above calling a person who's been subjected to crappy hardware an "idiot" when its been proved that

a) the electric wiring in his house was fine
b) if any of the breakdowns were his fault, two of them weren't as they were DOA
c) all the breakdowns are real; MS customer support even confirmed it.

Verge, I hope to god that you realize that you're looking extremely ignorant right now, and I know that you aren't trying to be.  Please stop making it seem like its the guy's fault, because it isn't.Â
