If it breaks in the right time period, it is replaced with no problem. IF.

I heard if you stick the power source in a sock it will give you its pot of gold. (while the system is on)

I never said those kind of people smart. But one could say the same about the Star Wars Kid. Just by having that video of him pretemding to be Darth Maul earned him millions in cash and electronic bounty sent in by people (who were probably pitying him...).

No,it just means that there is 3/10 chance for a 360 to fail.OXIIIIXO
Exactly. If its a 3/10 chance that it would fail, that means 3 out of every 10 you buy would fail. In other words, in order to get 11 faulty xboxs you'd have to buy about 32.5 systems. Unless like people are saying they actually send faulty hardware back to people. Then that would be baaaaaad.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="Jandurin"]Not necessarily. I never heard much of the Sony exploding batteries, and they recalled the whole lot of them. It's very possible for a single 360 to explode with no repercussions for MS. OXIIIIXO

What about his claim of 11 broken 360s? Do you know what the odds are of something like that, even if the 30% rate of defection is true? 330-11. In other words, HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

His "claim". Its been confirmed by IGN themselves. They called the Custormer Reps and confirmed the service numbers... He went through 11 360s. As unbelievable as it sounds, it happened.

He must have tampered with it or something. Its just statistically not sound even if it was true that 3 out of every 10 360s were faulty. He'd have to atleast buy 32.5 or something.

No,it just means that there is 3/10 chance for a 360 to fail.

Exactly... look, vandal, think of it this way:

10 people are lined up on a wall.  3 of them are criminals.  If you select them, they are going to ****ing kill you.  That guy got unlucky enough to select the criminal 11 TIMES IN A ROW.  He didn't tamper with it; he just got extremely unlucky.

Listen to the audio clip that he provided.. They confirm he had 11 consoles break..

11 breakdowns is hard to believe, but the exploding one? Yeah, I flatly refuse to believe this.

And explode? Taking out 6 city blocks? Yes, some random MP3 file is all the proof I need.

11 console breakdowns is hard to believe, at best. But an exploding 360? i flatly refuse to believe all this has happened to him. That would have made the news.

Come on, Verge... I thought you were above calling a person who's been subjected to crappy hardware an "idiot" when its been proved that

a) the electric wiring in his house was fine
b) if any of the breakdowns were his fault, two of them weren't as they were DOA
c) all the breakdowns are real; MS customer support even confirmed it.

Verge, I hope to god that you realize that you're looking extremely ignorant right now, and I know that you aren't trying to be. Please stop making it seem like its the guy's fault, because it isn't.

Take a look at the logistics before accusing me of sounding 'ignorant'. Even if the 30% defect rate were true, do you have any idea how low the chances would be for someone to have 11 faulty 360s, and one that EXPLODED? You have no right whatsoever to call someone ignorant for doubting a claim such as this.

Obviously it was them sending crap hardware back to people.  But even that doesn't explain why the 7 new 360s he got all screwed up, two of which were DOA.

EDIT:  Oops, I read the article wrong (I think).  MS sent him 1 new 360.... which also broke.  It's kind of sad.

It is possible.

The refurbed consoles could have a MUCH higher chance of failure. The high numbers of failed consoles for people vs. the people who have had no console break has led me to consider the possbility.

Because it takes a week or more each time to replace it, especially lately with them shipping between 1,500 and 2,500 units daily in the UK alone elsewhere to be repaired.

Doesn't MS replace broken consoles with refurbed units? If the guy was recieving a brand new console everytime, then i'd agree, he's doing something wrong, but since they are refurbed, and thus obviously prone to breaking in the first place, it does make sense that he was unlucky enough to 11 bad eggs in a row.

Why is it that most 360 owners are either on their first console, or else on their 3nd or higher? Very few have had to replace the console only once. Once the first one goes, it's a rocky road from there, because they get refurbs as replacements, instead of new consoles.

Yes, I realize how low the chances are of that occuring, and that's exactly why his case is so publicized; nobody would have ever thought that somebody could get that unlucky.  As for the exploding part... please.  Obviously there have been cases of this before, Verge; all it takes is a wire that's still pulsing with electricity to come in contact with the wrong 360 part.

What's a week or two? People are so impatient. If you have faulty 360, don't go running on the internet crying. You knew what you were getting.

on topic: that really blows, i can't imagine how that is possible. Either he is doing something wrong or MS needs to overhaul their console (probably both)

Not necessarily. I never heard much of the Sony exploding batteries, and they recalled the whole lot of them. It's very possible for a single 360 to explode with no repercussions for MS.

Actually, the whole Sony battery issue was on the frontpage of Google news for quite some time, I believe. it made significant press.

Well that's because they recalled them, if microsoft recalled 360's then it would be on the news. And LOL at these lemmings trying to say "bu..buu...teh console cudn't be dat bad?!?!"

"I'm no fanboy," he says, but there's no doubt he's a 360 fan. He purchased his first machine a month after the console launch, but, since then, Justin has not had a working system for longer than a month or two. The list of problems is almost comically large: three red lights of death, two with disc read errors, two dead on arrival, several with random audio and video-related issues and one that actually exploded.

In an MP3 that Justin shared with 1UP -- which you can listen to below -- he asks a service representative to read off his support/repair request numbers. After opening the account, the rep lets out an audible laugh. He reads them off and confirms they are under Justin's account. Just to be sure, 1UP called into Xbox Live support with Justin's contact info and asked for the same information. Again, the person on the other end laughed when they accessed Justin's account, remarking, "It looks like you have a lot of numbers."

That is freakin' horrible.. I cant believe he kept getting them replaced. I would've stopped after the 3rd or 4th console, but 11? I wouldve just said the big "!@#$ you" to the console.

OXIIIIXO

You know, things break.

Hahaha, you win the thread.

I sold my 360 yesturday while it still works after receiving a replacement for my first that had a failed HDD and then 3 red lights. I mean why not support PS3, great graphics, great reliable hardware, free very good online, and a stellar game lineup.

The reason all 360 owners are either 1 or much more is because when you send it in they send you back one that had been broken in the past.

It is a HORRIBLE cycle to be in. I'm getting my 3rd back soon (in the mail). To hold me over until then/bedroom use later I picked up one while my main was getting repaired for the 2nd time and it to is broken. This one didn't get 3 red lights, it only got one and I found out it is the ANA chip.

The chances of him being sent 11 refurbished 360s in a row are about as low as having one explode. I am not ruling out completely the possibility that the infamous faulty hardware fo the 360 could have had a hand in this (if this is true), but in all 11 cases?

Of course it's unlikely to happen. That's why he's the only known case of it happening.

And yet for some reason I don't believe him. Let me illustrate with a bad paint job: Teh pirates = TEH BAD 360s Teh smilies = Teh good 360s What do you think the chances are you'd choose every single bad pirate guy before you ever chose a good dude? Incredibly, absolutely, positively not going to happen in a real world situation.

Except, he claimed that he had a contractor inspect his wiring, and it was proclaimed safe. And no, I don't think there have been any recorded incidents of an exploding 360, save for one which was later revealed to be fake.

Verge_6

He had the contractor inspect the wiring of his home, not wiring of the console...

What's a week or two? People are so impatient. If you have faulty 360, don't go running on the internet crying. You knew what you were getting.

IbukiNinja

1/52nd of a year, seven days, 168 hours, 1008 minutes, 60480 seconds. Thats assuming that is actually only one week as one of the stories linked from digg mentions there is one person who sent it in for repairs on the 5th of this month and hadn't received it back by the 23rd as they sent it out of the country for repairs because the UK's capacity was exceeded.

Thats also assuming the console is still under warranty..you shouldn't have to buy an extended warranty for a product to be sure you won't be out of hundreds of dollars two years down the line.

11 ?

That dude is doing something wrong.

I have my 360 and its a dream of engineering.

You people have to remeber that people who have stuff that work don't scream as loud as people that want to b*tch and complain.

And the interwebz and the blogs don't help.

That really does not counter or refute my statement in any way, shape, or form.

You honestly beleive that someone could choose 11 straight bad ones out of a pool of 32? That just seems imporbable.

-Ninja_Dog-

360 is far from a "dream of engineering" its cheaply made and it shows. For instance compare the internals of the PS3 to the internals of the 360, the PS3's motherboard and overall construction makes it look like you are comparing a budget Compaq and a top of the line Alienware.

You honestly beleive that someone could choose 11 straight bad ones out of a pool of 32? That just seems improbbable.Vandalvideo

Improbable by no means is the same thing as impossible, so while it may not be probable its not impossible and seeing as he continues to buy games for the thing, its not like hes deliberately sabotaging them either (aside from you know..the phone recordings proving he had that many die).

I have personally observed some crazy odds being broken. Anything is possible.

Improbable is COMPLETELY acceptable, though. I would agree with that.

Take a look at the logistics before accusing me of sounding 'ignorant'. Even if the 30% defect rate were true, do you have any idea how low the chances would be for someone to have 11 faulty 360s, and one that EXPLODED?

Verge_6

Doesn't MS replace broken consoles with refurbed units? If the guy was recieving a brand new console everytime, then i'd agree, he's doing something wrong, but since they are refurbed, and thus obviously prone to breaking in the first place, it does make sense that he was unlucky enough to 11 bad eggs in a row.

Why is it that most 360 owners are either on their first console, or else on their 3nd or higher? Very few have had to replace the console only once. Once the first one goes, it's a rocky road from there, because they get refurbs as replacements, instead of new consoles.

The chances of him being sent 11 refurbished 360s in a row are about as low as having one explode. I am not ruling out completely the possibility that the infamous faulty hardware fo the 360 could have had a hand in this (if this is true), but in all 11 cases?

Verge, MS CONFIRMED IT.  I agree that the chances are low but... it happened.  And apparently it wasn't the guy's fault.  Don't you think that MS would try to damage control the case by asking whether or not it could've been his fault in some way?   That was the whole point of them asking whether his house was properly wired.  It was.  MS customer service got owned.

yeah, the lemmings can say how great their games are, but good luck on finding a system that works to play them.

Nov. 2005 console right here. never a problem 8)

I'm pretty speechless....Ibacai

hard to find words. I can't believe Microsoft would allow a customer to have to go through that kind of experience.

You know, things break.
