For the 360 to be the only appliance in his household to break down, let alone 11 times? When his father is an electricist? When he actually hired someone else to check on his wiring to make sure there was nothing wrong? While I don't doubt the validity of this article, either this guy must have the worst luck ever or he is seriously doing something wrong.

I think the fault resides in the console itself... But this may have an explanation. It seems repaired consoles break much more often than new ones... So either your original 360 never dies, or it does and your next one will have a much higher chance to break, and so on.
It's funny how lemmings have bashed the PS2 for years over being so poorly made. They said it couldn't have sold 100 million because Sony probably counted all the broken units. They said it is proof that Sony sucks and makes terrible hardware. They said that SOny screwed the customer and lied to everyone. They said anyone who claims to not have any problems with their PS2 is a fanboy and a liar (although mine still works).
Now here we are a few years later. MS swore that the 360 had the lowest failure rate in the history of consoles. %3 failure rate they said. When people doubted that the lemmings all said the internet is full of liars who only want MS to look bad. They even said only MS knows the real numbers and that is why the %3 must be true. They said if the failure rate was higher peopel would have sued by now.
Looking over this thread I have to laugh. "So? Things break". "How can anyone have 11 broken consoles? He must be breaking them on purpose." "He's stupid". "Has to be user error"...even though 2 were broken out of the box and 1 exploded.
You know lemmings. Just suck it up and stop being hypocrits. You brought this thread on yourselves. The sooner you face reality and admit MS lied to your faces (%3 lol) the quicker this will die down. MS will fix this problem eventually, just like Sony did, and everything will be fine. But you brought this one yourselves. Everything you claim to hate SOny for is being done to you by MS...and you defend every ounce of it.
That is really unlucky. Most people here would have just dismissed him as a "fanboy making stuff up",but yet he even recorded his call, which makes it less likely that he actually faked it.....
I'm pretty much speechless now.....
he's not just unlucky. There are lots of people with these kinds of horror stories. I know more than a couple people on their 4th-7th console at this point. if your console dies, good luck with this cycle.

The actual failure rate is obviously around the 70% mark, but denial isnt going to get you lemms anywhere-MoOkS-don't be so Cow-ish, twinblade. 70% is...no.
not even worth saying because it's not. It may be a solid 20%, but not 70%. Understand, most of these people with horror stories aren't getting NEW 360's and having them fail left and right; they're being given REFURBISHED 360's over and over again. they're getting someone else's old 360.
if these people were getting NEW 360s and having them die in multiples, it would be a big story...but that's not what's happening here. keep your perspective.

I really feel sorry for this guy. He is so patient and supportive of Microsoft even though he has had such bad luck.
My launch console finally went out about a week ago. I sent it in for repair, but I also went out and bought a core system with a Best Buy 2 years warrenty. I have a cousin that has had the same issue with a console that is only a few months old.
Another friend bought a 360 that didn't work and he returned it. The second system he got worked for about a day and got the red rings of death. The third one finally worked right up to this point.
This is a huge problem for Microsoft. They need to make an ungent hardware design change now to stop this from happening. Many customers are going to be turned off by the fact that the 360 is known to be a shotty product.

One would think that if the 360 you received was properly fixed, or "refurbished", then it shouldn't keep breaking. UNless you are telling us that MS is incapable of fixing their own consoles?
What about this. Is a warranty able to give you an elite instead of your original 360? Do elites break down like this as well? If not, then how many people here are going to move over to the elite?Shomb22
The hardware for the elite should be the same. It's just got a different box and a bigger HD basically.
Microsoft really messed up in this big time.
The only reason I could think of as to why my launch X360 and my new Elite haven't failed yet is because I use voltage stabilizer connected to my APC Smart-UPS 1500 system.
I gave my launch X360 as a gift to a friend of mine who had his X360 fail on him (3 flashing lights). Now I'm waiting to see if my gift will fail on him as well. Cause if it does, then I'd gather the problem is somehow related to a flaw in X360 power brick.

Life on the Planet Bovine dictates that all negative 360 heresey is true....
I fail to see how a listing of the numbers and a confirmation both via audio recording from him and the website in question is hearsay or not "rock solid evidence".
Good post. One of my friends didnt buy a warranty for his 360 and his console died two after its first year. Two days after it expired! I chalk that up to severe bad luck but how many here would scream 'liar?'It's funny how lemmings have bashed the PS2 for years over being so poorly made. Anyway, are you trying to say you can measure luck? You can measure probability, but luck is the thing that determines which way the probability goes. And, if you're "lucky" then probability would go your way more than one who is "unlucky".
Jandurin
You can not measure luck due to the intracies and number of probability equations that occur every day of your life. But you are correct in the rest, luck is the outcome of those odds of probability and one who is "lucky" has probability land on their side more often than a person who is "unlucky".

Why is Microsoft allowing this tho happen if they are so wealthy and powerful ?

That's supposed to reduce the heat generated.
I don't understand why people get so giddy about hardware failure posts, is your hatred of a system so great that you are happy that your fellow gamers have to go through this.
It's one thing to inform people of defect rates, it's another to be happy and put :D faces in your posts about this.

I don't know if they care as much as we thought they did. customer service is friendly, from what I'm told. but in the end, people want equipment that works.

with all this crap, I'd probably just buy a new 360 instead of deal with this kind of experience.

If they try to fix it they're admitting there is a problem, which could potentially lead to a recall or other shenanigans (hopefully the whole GPU heatsink deal will). They're allowing it to happen cause they think they can get away with it without being held accountable. I'm guessing their strategy is to remain tightlipped and wait for the 65nm CPU so they can claim they revised the hardware for cost reduction reasons or whatever, rather than to fix a problem.

Gears of War is lots of fun, especially if you have a big tv and a friend to co-op it with. But, you have to decide. I haven't purchased one yet, but I'm patient.lol not only does it show how bad the 360 hardware is, it shows how dumb lemmings can be. it took him 11 times to realize something was wrong? lmaoBackFlip101nothing wrong with wanting your equipment to work man. they weren't charging him for the fixes, so he remained patient.
IMO, Cows should not act as if they don't know the meaning of the word "patience"...
It's your favorite these days.

Neither all Microsoft has done with the elite is use epoxy to try and hold the GPU into the motherboard, they haven't solved the underlying problems.

I also don't let me libary of games I've already built up go to waste. and I don't go though the cycle of hoping a refurbished 360 holds together.
