That just about sums it up. Surprised M$ is still sending him consoles. Seems like a full refund is in order.

This excuse is so old it died, went to heaven, and got clogged with so much dust it eventually grew into a small moon. And it's just as lame and convenient as it ever was.

with all this crap, I'd probably just buy a new 360 instead of deal with this kind of experience.
No no no. That's not the way to go about it. You don't give a company more money cause their hardware and customer support sucks.
I also don't let me libary of games I've already built up go to waste. and I don't go though the cycle of hoping a refurbished 360 holds together.
If you're under warranty there's no reason not to have it replaced. I'd rather do that than encourage them. Plus, there's no guarantee your new 360 will do any better than a refurb. I got a refurb with July 2006 on the case. Started freezing more frequently, so I had it replaced with a new 360 after 6 months. The new (November 2006) 360 lasted around 4 months before it started giving me weird visual displays and gnawed on a disc.
How ****ty would it be to buy two 360's and have both of them break?
It's a shame consumer protection apparently is so awful in some countries. Whenever one of my 360's break I just send Microsoft support an email and I get a brand new Premium within a couple of days. I have three 360 boxes now, the stack is starting to look a bit ridiculous. I'm also getting the game replaced btw.
In other news I have now owned a 360 with all DVD-drives in existence, I believe. This one is from February 2007 and has one of them asymmetrical holes in the middle. I'm fully expecting this 360 do die in an unknown quantity of months as well.
I have one question, which drive is the quietest?
If its an article on the internet, it has to be true. But I have bigger things to worry about, because I just read a story about aliens using special infrared rays to heat the earths surface and atmosphere and thus cause global warming. WE are in serious trouble.sonicareAs long as they aren't possessing us and turning us into mindless zombies...

Ya before you make a comment about that why don't you have a look at the actual number of people who dont have that issue. I'm one that has not seen that problem yet so I have enjoyed all the games that the 360 has provided.

I just read through about 3 pages of comments.
Look, IF the 30% failure rate is true, you DON'T have to get 33 consoles for 11 to be broken. They could all be broken or all be ok (the latter having more chance, actually).
So, I tried to calculate the odds of a person of getting 10 broken consoles using the 30% figure, and though I could be wrong (which is highly possible), the number I came up with is 0.00059049. Pretty low, huh? Nah, not really. That would mean itcan happento 5904 people if 10m 360's are sold.
Even IF my calculation is right, we have these things to take into consideration:
1. Returned, refurbished, consoles are probably more "prune to injury" than new ones.
2. He might be an angry person, throwing the joystick on the console when he doesn't win. :P
3. He might have really broken some of the consoles.
4. The failure rate probably refers to the whole lifespan of the console, probably around 5 years, not less than 2 years, which make it less likely.

I was gonna write something about that, but I realized it's kind of hard to remember the noise level of something you heard a year ago. It appears to make as much noise as my previous Hitachi drive though. Think this one is a BenQ? But hopefully there will be no discscratching. All drives are 12x so I doubt there's much difference between them, if at all.

Lems don't want to acknowledge this is happening to people. I think it's sad that so many 360 owners have to hold their breath everytime they turn their system on.

lol. Sure. He might have broke some of the consoles or thrown the controller at the system. It's all his fault. MS would never do this to a person.
It is possible that if they simply tried to repair his defective console and did it poorly, that could break down repeatedly. But I doubt that he went through 11 separate consoles or had one explode.sonicare

Anyhow... 11 broken 360's is statistically improbable, but I wouldn't say it's impossible. And it isn't. Cause I don't think 1UP and Microsoft support would lie about such a thing. It would be kind of silly and pointless.

Games are coming and when they're here (by the end of this year there'll be a great lineup), there will be no reason to be a 360. So you keep on with your tired "no games" mantra. Games arriving are only an issue of time. 360s' breaking is a perpetual problem.
Not to throw gas on the fire...but check it outCyanX73
No, please do throw gas. The more stories the more awareness, the sooner Microsoft has to be held accountable.
This is BS it must be user error. I find it near impossible to go through that many systems. :?

12 consoles is simply way too many. I can accept the fact that eletronics break from time to time, but something is seriously wrong with the Xbox 360. Microsoft has some explaining to do. They need to fix this problem because it might really affect their sales. it can get stuck with the stigma of being a really shoddy product especially when compared to the PS3 and the Wi. =/

[QUOTE="Kinitari"]Thank you for correcting my poor choice of wording. There are many people on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th ++++ 360's they keep breaking, here's why: MS keeps sending REFURBISHED SYSTEMS, these are the consoles that BROKE and they do a minor fix and SHIP IT TO SOMEONE ELSE.
They have a probability of breaking 100% of the time, when?? no one knows, it's like playing Russian Roulette.

The funny thing is that I know everyone would just spam about how this was a bogus report, all made up, if 1UP and the recording didn't prove it wasn't. So now it's back to the other excuse.

my guess would be user error.
i have had a 360 since launch and 5 of my friends, they all work perfectly :s.

Sigh sigh sigh... And how would one go about user erroring a console getting RLOD's, being DOA, having video issues and not reading discs properly? Let me guess, you place the console upside down, in an oven, polish your games with sandpaper, put them in sideways and hook it up to a radio. That obviously must be what he did...
oooh, the original xbox ships with 2 heatsinks o.O
One on the cpu and one on the gpu. now i am confused, as the artical said refurbished ones came back with 2 heatsinks xD
This artical is dated november 2005 most likely this thing was never even used before it was taken apart.

From what I've read it has something to do with the 360's inability to get rid of heat and the motherboards inability to withstand it. Due to way the X-clamp is designed the motherboard warps in an un-good way when heated, over time this leads to solders disconnecting, and 3RLOD. It seems like the X-clamp is the main culprit as people have successfully replaced them and revived their 360's. I'm not sure it's a permanent fix though, might be other thingamajigs causing trouble.
Anyhow, make your way over to xbox-scene or something.
And as for refurbished 360's... I've had three faulty 360's, two were new. February 2006 and November 2006. The refurb was in my possession longer than the November model. Didn't eat my games either.... So refurbs aren't necessarily worse.

The list of problems is almost comically large: three red lights of death, two with disc read errors, two dead on arrival, several with random audio and video-related issues and one that actually exploded.
