The world is beautiful, but the character models are pretty poor as is the lip sync.

look i loved alan wake i have all the achievements and the CE so believe me, i know what i am talking about. the levels are very long, but not vast / openworld. there is a lot of set paths where you can deviate for a few metres on either side. then you will come to a bigger open space, which itself is closed in. grapichally at night the lighting is the best i have ever seen. the more time you spend with the game, the more things you see that could be better, alans hair, a few textures here and there. most of it is extra-ordinarily beautiful. playing RDR the other night i rode my horse under a streetlamp in an effort to regain health. that is how much of AW i have played LOL. i look forward to the DLC, because the story is brilliant. however i do i think that RDR on 360 beats it for looks though.sts106mat

The farm level is huge though, and you can actualy drive around in a huge space, this is not just a few meters deviation at all

Same goes for some other areas, i know there are not many, but they are there and are vast

There is a huge day time road way in a whole mountain side if you recall and the place is just infinite with huge deviation too

Well, when you play Alan Wake, and get to explore whole mountain sides and rolling hills, then you will know it is 100x bigger i walkable area than Uncharted 2 in its levels

theseekar

AW does not have vast open areas, completely linear closed in areas like U2. You must have seen the PC footage from like 5 years ago

Have you actually played the game ? Any comments on the farm size near the end ? Because i was driving a car around whole mountains and hills to find the next objctive there

How come you "missed" that spot ? And is not the only one

There is nothign like that in Uncarted 2, sorry

Yeah I remember driving the car down a specific road with nothing to explore around me. And when I tried to explore around me, those parts were magically locked off. Game looks great, but you are really over exaggerating the scale.

True.. also there is nothing wrong paying $60 for a 7 hr game... I still dont regret getting games such as GOW3, Heavenly Sword, R&C, Uncharted1 etc etc even though they didnt offer mp and were relatively short, i had so much fun and went through each games' campaign a few times..

Personally i'd rather pay $60 for a great SP only game, than $60 for an average title with added 'average' mp :)

I finished Uncharted 2 in 8 hours, Uncharted 1 in 7

Alan Wake took me 15 hours on easy, and that without gathering all story important pages

I plan to replay it for that, so would be like 30+ hours long to see everything

I don't recall Alan Wake having an easy mode. (BTW what's your PSN ID I really doubt you played U1 or U2.)

Yea I doubt it takes 15 hrs. I'm at episode 4 ATM (found 35 pages, Thermos) and I'm playing on hard. I also search everywhere to make sure I do not miss anything.

more detail, better animations, pretty good draw distance, good lighting, great art work overall, superior character models, etc. Does Alan Wake look good? yes. Better than Uncharted 2? Uncharted 2 makes a legit case for graphics princess(King and Queen would be the Crysis games).

I most definitely did not rush. Took my time and tried to find manuscript pages. Beat the game in 4 sitdowns in about 12 hours if I had to guess because I only play for 3 hours at most for any game that isnt an rpg. Game does not measure your playing time though(unless I missed it?). I enjoyed it a lot though, fun game.

i would say totally finished with the game no more than 20 hours. the farm level is large, but you start of on a road which is single track, there is a large open fielded area and a path to the north. its not really massive, the MW2 analogy is a good one, its of a similar size to that level actually. the game does a good job of the scale, but i think you are actually more hemmed in then you realisests106mat

But i am only comparing it to Uncharted 2, that has no scale at all in walkable areas, that is all

I never said Alan Wake is the biggest scale game, just that comparing to U2, its places are vastly more open and big

Like I said before both games offer a false sense of huge scale levels (both games are linear). U2 beats Alan Wake in physics, character models and animation, while on the other hand Alan Wake beats U2 in lighting, atmosphere, soundtrack, concept and story. BTW I'm still waiting for that gamer tag and PSN ID.

Ok, i guess 12 hours isa possible time, i take my time when a game looks so amazing, that is all, so i guess those extra 3 hours could be me going to higer place and watch the vistas in any spots :)

I also watched all TV shows, and many radio broadcasts, which hugly added to the game atmosphere

It is superior. 10000 trees, dynamic water effects better than bioshock, it also on superior gpu, and more cinematic due to sub hd and screen tearing all the time. Gives you a film like experience.l

Alan wake himself is ugly, poor animations, low res. Everything looks flat

It has nice lightining in the nigt and environments are good just that but far from best.

Which and why ?

I have already proven Alan Wake looks better than Uncharted 2 in scale, foliage and lighting, can you prove what you say ?

Like I said before both games offer a false sense of huge scale levels (both games are linear). U2 beats Alan Wake in physics, character models and animation, while on the other hand Alan Wake beats U2 in lighting, atmosphere, soundtrack, concept and story. BTW I'm still waiting for that gamer tag and PSN ID.

you can be a linear game and have a huge scale to be honest. Scale just be vast open areas, and great draw distances etc. God of War 3 while linear, and confined has an impressive scale to say the least. There not sandbox tier in the scale department, but for linear games I'd say it's fair game to something has a nice scale or even huge at times.

more detail, better animations, pretty good draw distance, good lighting, great art work overall, superior character models, etc. Does Alan Wake look good? yes. Better than Uncharted 2? Uncharted 2 makes a legit case for graphics princess(King and Queen would be the Crysis games).

If you are comparing Uncharted 2 to PC games then it is not even among the noble lineage.

Heck even Gears of War on the PC looks better than any console game.

Lol. It looks nice especially with the flash lights in dark but not among top gfx games. There are many games have far superior gfx than Alan Wake

Alan wake himself is ugly, poor animations, low res. Everything looks flat

It has nice lightining in the nigt and environments are good just that but far from best.

I agree, in some things Alan Wake is worst, in some is better

In the end is all about what you consider more important, crisper textures/resolutionand better charatcer models or next gen lighting, foliage in huge scale ?

I will go with the latter 99% of the time, next gen effects and huge cites/forests impress me more than crisper last gen looking and tiny places, even if te hero looks better

[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"] That would imply it's superior :?theseekar

It is superior. 10000 trees, dynamic water effects better than bioshock, it also on superior gpu, and more cinematic due to sub hd and screen tearing all the time. Gives you a film like experience.l

Ys, you also forgotit uses 100x bigger scale, better lighting and foliage than U2

Haha, I like when you say 100x bigger scale. Reminds me of when you used to talk about Fable 2.

I know that, I'm just getting tired of the TC trying make it seem like AW has these huge open levels. (BTW TC still waiting on that PSN ID and gamer tag)

GEoW2 on 360 is underrated graphically IMO. it is super stunning in places. look forward to no 3

Gears of war 2 has fantastic art design (especially background art which is unbelievable). Batman Arkham Asylum, Final Fantasy 13, among other games look flat out better technically and artisticlaly. Game technology evolves significantly. Most AAA blockbuster games (god of war 3, final fantasy 13, halo reach, etc) are going to be the best looking games when they come out. People believing that alan wake is near this category is silly.

well, when you play th game and reach the farm or some huge open mounatain side roadsway, you wil l know just how huge and open places AW has

Until you do play the game, well, good luck with watching videos and making false assumptions by that

now that I think about it, isn't Demon's Souls like way bigger than AW and like 40 hours long. A lot less linear too
