Why just because it's a 360 exclusive? If it was on the PS3 you would be saying that it would be the size of a GTA game...rite?

Are there any loading times?
No. Utilising multiple cores, the game will seamlessly generate vast areas of the game world for the graphics card to render.
I guess this was updated a few days ago right? Told you man those answers been there forever, nothing is confirmed. Although i don't know why an open world game woudnt work on the 360 its not like its never been done.

no because all the gameplay shows him following a linear path. and as Hideo Kojima its much easier to make a cinematic game with a linear world and last time i checked alan wake is focused on atmousphere and story not running around in a big city.[QUOTE="toast_burner"]

Because linear games like Uncharted 2 are just plain bad, am I right?themyth01well that is fine but the the rest of PS3 games are super open world for example look at the open world of Killzone 2...hmmm oh wait nevermind since that is as linear as they come, But ya lem what about God of War 3 hahahaa lem....oh wait neverminhd since that is as linear and scripted as it gets for a game but there is also...ya but MGS4 um oh ya um nevermind MGS kinda linear and scripted also but what about blah and...blah..blah..blah.......

Dig into the FAQ page and see what they actually updated. Updated questions are marked with a title colored like this.
What is happening with Max Payne 3?
Max Payne 3 is being developed by Rockstar Vancouver (Barking Dog Studios) with a release scheduled for late 2010. Remedy are not involved with development of the title.
http://www.rockstargames.com/maxpayne3/
"The game's story just went through another total re-write earlier this month (the third that I am aware of in the past two years) and that [means] the team would have to have all of the content done by April or May to make that August release date." - Anonymous Rockstar employee, January 15, 2010.
"As of now, we're internally completely focused on Alan Wake. This is our way of doing things, and it's the best way to guarantee that Alan Wake will be the game it deserves to be." - Petri Järvilehto
Remedy and 3D Realms split IP and ownership 50:50 and eventually sold the rights to the Max Payne series to Take 2 for $48 million.
What tools are used to make the game?
3DSMax is used for object modeling, whilst the world environment is created using Remedy's own tool - WorldEditor.

Everyone, look closely and see that these were the only two things updated with the FAQ. Nothing more.
Nice, but why people didn't think it was open world, oh that's right, because it's on 360 and not PC.

Or because the onstage demo looked to be one scripted event after the other while following a very restrictive path...

They only updated 2 questions :?Maybe that is all the need to update, they already stated in the past that only the night was linear anyway, people just chose to ignore it.
And just for kicks, here's a Sam Lake interview with Edge from last year:
The game was originally announced as having a large open world to explore. Is that still the case?
We did try a more free-roaming approach at one point but decided that's not really the way we wanted to go. We want to deliver a good story and a good thriller and create the best possible rollercoaster ride through the game for the player. So the story is the means that guides the player through the game and through the game world. That being said, this path that the player is on is quite wide at times and all through the game there is a lot for the player to explore, but it's not a free-roaming sandbox.

"We'll open more of the game world as the game progresses. The area is so large, that we want the players to become familiar with a smaller subset of the world, before we introduce new locations and new areas." - Sam Lake I remember this quote it has been in the FAQ for ages, before the PC version was canned, am i that unclear or what? This was in 2007 wth are you people talking about?TintedEyes
The game is still partially open world...
Night = Objective-Base Linear Missions
Day =Unstructured Exploration in Large, Open Environmentsand Investigation/Missions
Recent previews have reiterated this. And Remedy has reiterated this many times on their forum. Infact, the "achievements" that were revealed also suggest this:
Story & campaign progression
Achievement: Park Ranger
"Alan Wake has been broken into episodes, similar to a TV-series structure. The End of a episode is a good calm spot to reward the player with an achievement without spoiling or disturbing anything else going on in the game. This particular achievement is rewarded after an episode where the player has spent considerable time in the Elderwood National Park, an area of the gameworld we highlighted during E3 2009."
Difficult Achievements
Achievement: Gunless Wonder
"Player has to complete a certain section of the game without firing a single bullet, just utilizing his light-based weapons and environment only."
Achievement: Meet the Deadline
"Writers, like game developers, have deadlines to meet. In this one, player has to get through a certain section of the game under a strict time limit."
Leveraging advanced techniques & mechanics
Achievement: Two for the Price of One
"This particular achievement is awarded if a player manages to destroy two enemies with a single blast from his shotgun. This is something that might happen by accident if the player is lucky or something he can choose to go after by trying to setup combat situations where this is more likely to occur."
Achievement: Collateral Carnage
"To receive this one, the player has to use his wits more than his weapons. He needs to collect enough indirect kills, using the dynamic situation and the environment to his advantage."
Achievement: Back! Back, I Say!
"If a player manages to save himself by using a handflare to drive off the enemies when they almost got him, he will receive this achievement."
Utilizing entire inventory
Achievement: It's Not Just a Typewriter Brand
"I'm not sure if GamePro readers associate the name Remington more with shotguns or typewriters, but the brand exists in both categories. Wake believes a manuscript he wrote is coming true. So in essence he created his own predicament with a typewriter and now he has to solve it with a shotgun. To achieve this one players have to prefer their shotgun over other powerful weapons and choose to go in for the close kills with it."
Exploration Achievements
Achievement: Bright Falls Aficionado
"Players who are interested in Bright Falls as a location have the opportunity to dig in deeper to the colorful past and present of the quirky small town. By exploring the gameworld, they'll be able to get a much richer understanding of the place and we reward them with this achievement to boot."
Achievement: Damn Good Cup of Coffee
"Now, the naming of this one is an homage to one of our influences for the game and a good example of those pop cultural references we love to put in our games. I can't tell you yet how you will receive this one, other than it will be related to exploring the gameworld's every nook and cranny."
Achievement: Collector's Edition
"We've already revealed that Wake's lost manuscript is at the heart of this whole mystery player is trying to solve. Throughout the gameworld, players will find pages of this lost novel. Some are easy to find and others hard. Some will be key to understanding the story while others fill in gaps, add color and round out the overall story experience for those players who really get into the story. By collecting every single manuscript in the gameworld - and there's quite a few-- you'll be rewarded with this one."
Three "exploration" achievements and the descriptions of them suggest that there is plenty to explore.

regardless of the FAQ. Remedy has done a ton of interviews lately saying the day time sections are open. and they said GTA style open world just wasnt working. it was a design decision by a pretty talented group of devs. maybe people should respect their ability and experiance in the field instead of acting like they can do their job better than they can.
