[QUOTE="themyth01"][QUOTE="Revan_911"] It won't fit the limitations of a five year old hardware. And they clearly say it's not going to be open. Having large areas to explore is not an open world.Revan_911What is an open world then? GTA is open world. Gun is open world. Bully. Alan Wake sounds like Call of Juarez 2. A couple of free roam levels and the rest linear. It's not a bad thing CoJ2 rocked but you shouldn't claim that its an open world.
If that is the case then Alan Wake was hasn't been Open World for like 3 years... Even before the PC version was put on hold they changed their description to fit more closely the "Day = large open exploration, night = linear objective based missions." They have been describing it like that since 2007... At least on their forums...
I still have high hopes for this game, but it was really announced like... how many years ago now? Before the launch of the 360 if I'm not mistaken. We already had pictures and concept art for what Alan was going to look like. I remain skeptical until the absolute last minute when a game takes this long to release, is this shrouded in secrecy, scraps a particular platform, and rumors abound about the structure of the game world. I hope this is everything it has been touted, lives up to it's own hype as well as Max Payne's expectations, and kicks some serious ass. HahadoukenI think it comes out around E3 timeframe doesn it? They'll probably blow the lid off around that time (unless its released earlier than E3). Lots of long time developed games turned out crappy this gen, so i share your skepticism.

Alan Wake was NEVER developed with DX10 in mind. It has always been a DX9 title.
The original demo was on a Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, GeForce 7800 GTX, and 2 GB of RAM
Remedy said they had no plans to implement DX10 at any point in development.
And the Xbox 360 version was always the lead platform once formal development was started(original demo was merely a proof of concept without any actual "game" behind it).

No. It was announced as a Vista only title. Not DX10. it was never DX10.
DX10 is only on vista so by making it DX10 only it was also vista only. anyway its been canceled so why are we arguing over this?Dig into the FAQ page and see what they actually updated. It's only about Max Payne 3, and what tools were used in making the game.mo0ksi
Remedy has been very hush hush about it, we know the bare minimum about the game.
I think a lot of people will be surprised
I like having the whole package. You act like the game looks bad.[QUOTE="h575309"]Maybe you should worry less about graphics, and more about gameplay and story.windsquid9000

it was 5 years ago i cant remember exactly what they said but im pretty sure it was for DX10. but i guess i was wrongDo I not have the right to simply dislike the way a game looks? You have the right to dislike a game period. It does not, however, protect you from challenge against your opinion. I think you are being far too critical of the graphics.[QUOTE="rolo107"]For an open world game, I am very impressed. Are you a hermit? That would explain the downplay here, but I don't see why anyone should be surprised or disappointed. The graphics are impressive for an open world title on a console, and I do not imagine them being much better on PC(other than the typical improvements in AA, etc.) I think it is a bit petty to downplay a game solely because it used to be on your platform.windsquid9000
I sympathize with hermits over the situation, but turning into haters is really naive and hypocritical. It's gonna be a great game. No need for it to become graphics king.
Thanks for the info TC

Quoted for Truth. There's no need for unjust hate. Alan Wake is going to be stellar.

Yes it is, the only questions that need updating are changed. if the game was no longer open world, then it wouldve been changed. There is discussion going on about it on the forums over there, but i didnt link to that because the answer was in the FAQs, which the admin referred the posters, so its up to date.[QUOTE="shakmaster13"]

Maybe that's why development is taking so long, because they needed to start from scratch to tailor the game to the 360.
But at the same time I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

The game is and always has been Xbox 360 lead platform... So BS on your theory.
The reason it is taking so long is because Remedy is such a small developer. In an industry where 200-300 man teams is becoming normal for development on a single game, Remedy has 40 employees, and nearly half of them are Engine Technicians and Software Engineers... It takes time to create content, and with so few people, the game was destined to take a long time to develop.

360s capabilities? Please tell me you dont buy into that sony PR crap? 360 is more that powerful enough to run an open world game, and has done so since launch. An open world game has more to do with the engine than the console. Also, games change in format multiple times during development, especially if its a new IP. The changing of AWs structure was purely for story reasons since its a major part of the game. It has been said many times that you are free to explore the world, and when you take on story missions, then its semi-linear like GTA games. the 360, the game, and Remedy is fine[QUOTE="Theguy56"]

Seems people have a hard time following this, its an old interview.
As long as the mysterious story and graphical power aren't hindered, I'm fine with anything that goes.
Low-res textures, little to no normal mapping, and low-poly objects/environments... :(
I am disappoint.
Let's pretend that you're correct, and the graphics aren't that great... Since when does graphics make the game? I am sick of devs sacrificing gameplay, and game length, for graphics. There's a lot more to a game than graphics. Now, back to reality... That pic looks awesome. Time to get some new glasses, dude.[QUOTE="navyguy21"]

Really? We're still talking about the 360's capabilities in a negative light? Despite the fact the fact that the 360 has proven to be equal to the PS3... Maybe I should start talking about how limited the PS3's hardware is. Seeing as how most multiplats look better on the 360. I'm just going to ignore the exclusives, the same way cows ignore anything that proves the 360 can keep up with the PS3.[QUOTE="windsquid9000"]Let's pretend that you're correct, and the graphics aren't that great... I still have my doubts about things. I'll wait for solid gameplay when the game gets in the hands of critics. Then after see it for myself. Something tells me to have an interest. Something else is telling me to be cautious of the black van with tinted windows.
