Anyone else find a white guy shooting a bunch of black guys kinda wrong? (RE5)

Nope, wasn't trolling, just a genuine concern when I first laid eyes on the trailer this morning.

I think you guys all have good points (and no, my name is not "Tarzan," lord of the jungle style); to be honest, playing through RE4 on the cube, racism never entered my mind even once. So why is this different to me (remember, this is IMO, not anyone else's)? I put it down to the fact that the protagonist is Mr. Midwest America, going abroad and laying waste to the villagers defending their town (even if "zombified," but let's try to read between the lines here).

The US has pretty much no history of laying seige to small Spanish towns in the woods....can the same be said for Afro-Caribbean villages?

These are just my thoughts here, don't flame me for having an opinion.

RE5 will most likely not have any connections to what you are refering to.

You honestly make a valid point... but at the end of the day it's still just a VG. Until we know more about the story we should reserve judgement on it. But for me personally.. I don't find it offensive because I know the series and I know that other games are similar in that regard, only using different ethnicities.

So I guess the issue comes in at the fact that the game looks so damn real... And the residents (of evil...LOL) don't look like grey-ish zoombies with their clothes/Flesh falling off.. eh?

Didn't they say the game takes place in Africa? Because if they did last I check there is a lot more black skin people in Africa than anywheres else. If he was fighting in a Africa village and put people of different colors than the game would not look correct. HarlockJC

Thanks again captain obvious. Again, i made a point of saying that nobody claims the object of the game is to kill these people because they're black.

The simple fact here is that you are a white guy, gunning down hordes of black men and women who dont appear to have anything seriously wrong with them. If they were grotesque zombies, or monsters a la previous games i'm sure it wouldn't sting so much. The fact is however, that watching that trailer without prior knowledge that it's about a zombie infestation showcases a game in which you gun down black people. It's about the connotations and the discomfort that such an image brings. Not just "zomg white guy shot a black guy!11"

NORMAL people realize that games are made for fun, and Resident Evil 5 is not being racist or anything. They could have just as easily put it in another ethnic background and then you would just be complaining about that too, since that seems to be what you do - complain.

Dude you're looking at this game from a Gamer perspective.. (and so am I) but you can't ignore or "sweep under the rug" the fact that others will not be so open minded about this game. Remember when the Haitian community was in an uproar about GTA Vice City? That was a mess...
