oh you're right Casey, best look for the diamond in the pile of manure. you're right, following a 99$ price drop, and with their current gen offerings posting 30%+ YtY declines this is something they should take pride in. i guess the PS2 is going to save Sony, eh? :)[QUOTE="sonny2dap"]six months of yoy decreases has got to be getting sony execs worried, they'll be clamouring for a price-cut yet still be unwilling to incur further losses. I'm guessing they'll tough it out but they've got to be concerned.blue_hazy_basicHell I'd be more worried about software sales. If thats where they are supposed to make up the difference between selling their hardware at a loss and the best selling game comes in at number 10, is a multiplat and can't even make 100k I'd be more than a little concerned ....
Yup.One game in the Top 10 has to be a letdown. AndSony has to be disappointed in KZ2's sales. Overall, the sales are good, but nowhere near where I'd bet Sony hoped for.
[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"]gamewise the PS3 is kicking the ass of the 360 IMO, just doesn't seem to be making an impact on sales at all.bez2083
Blame whoever is in charge of their marketing IMO Sony's last well-promoted exclusive was Resistance 2. I can only imagine the shaft Infamous will get on the marketing front, especially the way they dropped the ball on advertising KZ2.
You can not blame anyone but the ps3 owners. It is crazy how it is always blamed on some unknown market team. Lets just take KZ 2 for example. That game has been marketed since the before the PS3 LAUNCH. It has been at every GDC, E3 and so on for many years. The game reached almost a biblical level for PS3 fans on the internet. It just boggles my mind that anyone could say that KZ2 was not advertised. KZ2 was even shown when they were hyping the PS3 and look how many years ago that was. Blame the PS3 fans not some mysterious unknown advertising group. The game never even once reached the top slot in NPD. I mean that says something about how much software the PS3 fans buy if the most hyped FPS ever in playstation history can not even once reach the top slot in the NPD when the NPD covers the area the by far is the biggest for shooters[QUOTE="sonny2dap"][QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"] Hell I'd be more worried about software sales. [QUOTE="LosDaddie"][QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"] Well considering how some cows harp on about how the PS3 will eventually outsell the 360 because it will have a longer lifespan, if you take into account PS2 sales since the other consoles stopped being made I'd say it would be lucky to have a third, hell maybe a quarter, of its marketshare of last gen. Its running about a third at the minute I think....blue_hazy_basic
Well TBH, I do believe the PS3 eventually outsells the X360, but only because of Japan. And it won't happen until the next consoles are out, when nobody other than cows cares. At best, I think the PS3 takes 30% marketshare this gen. Right now, the PS3 is holding about 21% of the marketshare, give or take.
It would be like the iPod and Zune releasing a new MP3 player and the iPod doesn't outsell the Zune until a few years after they launched. Nobody with any business knowledge would think the iPod performed well.
Maybe, but if you use that logic then the PS2 must easily have what 80% of last gens market with its continued sales? There is no way in a million years the PS3 will ever reach 40% of this gens' share. You make a good point. I think the vast majority of people considered last gen over in '06 when all 3 current gen consoles were out.
LIke I said, nobody except cows would care if the PS3 eventually outsells the X360 if it happens when the next consoles are out.

yeah, I'd have to agree with that. KZ2 was a solid game (no Party System made it a rental for me) and inFamous looks to be great.
But in the grand scheme of things, the X360 is still doing great with high-profile multiplats (RE5 and SFIV ) and the exclusive DLC for GTA and FO3.
So in the crazy world of SW, the PS3 is "winning", but in reality both consoles have more than enough games.

i'm no magician or mind-reader casey :) if you don't insert a sarcastic emote or do more to make it read sarcastically i'm not going to assume :PSomething I find interesting about the PS2 coming close to the 360 in sales and some PS3 fans laughing at the 360 fans for it. Heck just look at the thread title 1- The 360 still outsold all 3 Sony systems -the PSP and the PS3 and yes the PS2 also 2-The only reason it is being made into a big deal by some because it is a rare thing to happen. The 360 outsells all Sony systems ever month and for one to even get close not even pass the 360 it becomes a big deal i guess. 3-It is clear it was just a good month and beyond the norm for the PS2 to get that close to the 360 that is why people are acting like it was a big deal. 4-It is clear it is something rare for this to happen that is why the PS fanbase is hyped. If it was not normal no one would say anything. Do the Wii fans talk about being in first? Do 360 fans act like it is a big deal to be ahead of the PS3? No to both of those because it is the norm. 5-The part I find the most interesting is how how a certain fanbase is happy that all 3 of their systems are last and the last gen system is the only one close to the 360.rybe1025TC also failed to mention the 99$ price drop for PS2 - so yeah. all & all a terrible NPD for Sony. Correct. A sales bump is a short term increase in sales. I suspect the PS2 will go back to last place next month. If not, then definitely by June NPD.
The X360 has been able to sustain it's lead over the PS3 for an extended period of time.
[QUOTE="3picuri3"][QUOTE="Keltoid"] Yup, nice to see you out bashing Sony... over... and over... and over again. At least have something good to say about them... c'mon - let's hear it. Say something good about Sony and the PS3. :)Keltoidit HAD potential. is that enough? :P i enjoyed my PS2 & PS1. i liked my PSP before homebrew was snuffed out. there, a few good words for them. So if you're referring to the PS3 as it "had" potential, you think the console is a failure? You dont think it's a quality video game console at all? Not being smart, just curious.
basically. i did own one for a while too so it's not like i'm just talking out my ***.
- very very few games that interest me (LBP, VC are the only ones that come to mind)
- best games this gen have been multiplats imho, and i own a great PC, 360, and Wii (even though i barely touch the last)
- tired of Sony lies, hype, and overpromising and underdelivering
it's a good game console, i wouldn't call it a complete failure - but it's more akin to the original xbox then the PS2 or PS1. the games just AREN'T there. where are the great groundbreaking IPs Sony is known for? where are the games that drive people to flock to the system? obviously NOT there. if they were, we'd see consistent, steady increases in sales. instead, they're down a third from last year even with KZ2 out and InFamous on the horizon - why? because most people just don't care about those games. just my 2 cents. i'm sure if it was your only system and you played tons of multiplats it would be just fine, but i'd rather spend my money on my current consoles instead of throwing down 4-500$ for another PS3 and 2 games I care about.
How much hype do you want? They even showed KZ2 in the PS3 launch trailers. We have seen some form of KZ2 at every E3, GDC, Tokyo Game Show, and others for over 4 years now. KZ2 was one of the most hyped games in Playstion history. For example the big lie CGI trailer for KZ2 happened at the 2005 E3. That is 4 years ago now.If sony had enough money to advertise they're games properly, they would be in the Top 10 (kz2).

I can understand that, it's all about personal preference. I disagree about the games though, I think the system has alot of quality games, I just think the 360 has a more mass market appeal with it's cheaper price and insane marketing. Thats not the kind of hype sony needs for their games to sell. Because if that were the case the game would have sold 3 mil at least by now. Sure gamers who are on gaming forums like this know the kind of hype kz2 had, but what about the rest of the ps3 owners who don't.
Who cares how much hype the game had on a few internet gaming sites, if it isn't advertised properly it won't sell.

i agree, I'm just sayin if sony had the money they would probably go for the halo3 or gears 2 style marketing
Its probably was cheaper for them to cut out b/c for ps3 to cut cost and keep the ps2 in the market. rather than keep the b/c for ps3 and keep the ps2 in the market at the same time. plus they're still trying to push blu-ray into the mainstream market as well.

I agree to a point.
I thought Sony did a decent jobadvertising KZ2, but they should've done more. Then again, now that we all know about Sony's gaming division's massive $600M loss, maybe they couldn't afford to advertise more. Cows will argue otherwise, but I'm positive Sony is very disappointed in KZ2's sales.
But IMO, I think KZ2 selling about 1.5M copies is about right. Great campaign with an OK MP. Lack of a Party System made the game a rental for me. Res2 is IMO still the best FPS on PS3 right now (and I'll be playing it this weekend)
It makes you wonder will companies start making more PS2 games againwow ps2 out selling ps3 and someone say Ps2 is dead:lol: and please who is still buying the wii fit balance board wow wee good for wii but holy smoke the Ds is now the beast in handsheld market
