Oh god, please anyone but Capcom. They screw up their own franchises enough, we don't need them screwing up some of the best JRPGs around.

Biggest Whine Fest since the Cancelation of Megaman Legends 3.
If there is already a contract in place which there most likely is and it happened before the sell, the game would still be made unless Sony opted to buy it out for a cancelation. I doubt Sony would waste money doing that.Dude, future RARE games on Nintendo consoles that were supposed to come out after Star Fox Adventures got cancelled. What does that tell you?Who didnt buy SMTIV!? :evil:bbkkristianI want to purchase it but I don't have money now.
The reason Atlus is being sold off isn't because they weren't making a profit it is because the company that owns them aren't making money but Atlus is profitable just not enough for their parent company to survive.

Index Corporation is moving to sell off its various subsidiaries - which includes Japanese developer and publisher Atlus.
The news comes via Bloomberg, which states that the company is facing stock market delisting on July 28, and will begin taking bids next week.
Total sales of assets, which again includes games publisher Altus, are expected to earn around $149 million. Atlus is responsible for publishing some rather big titles such as Persona 4, Demon's Souls, Catherine and the upcoming Dragon's Crown. It's currently unknown which companies would be interested in picking the publisher up, although some Japanese based publishers such as Capcom could very well be interested.

Yes, I know about Nintendo screwing over Sony. I don't believe Sony would waste money to cancel a contract on 1 niche title with their financial state but who knows. If it was Microsoft then yes, any title would be nulled right away. In the end it all just depends on the contract.
If this indeed true then I fear for the company if someone like microsoft, capcom, square enix, namco, ubisoft or someone else got their hands on them.
Honestly, I think sony is the perfect company for them. They already have a lot of exclusives with them and have always been a staple in my playstation collection. Not to mention Atlus does console and hand held games both of which sony produce. They would also be a great addition considering the game division of sony of japan. I think sony's japanese presence would also be good considering the vast majority of Atlus games are from japan.
So Im going to be emailing Atlus and Sony. I know it wont do much good but Id like to support this idea and hopefully bring the perfect match together before someone else takes over Atlus and ruins them.

Considering a lot of the announcements recently have been mainly for the market, I don't doubt it.

It would be an awesome move to pull that out of their hat and get both markets. I mean, Atlus is pretty much the last major JRPG publisher that is still respected. With that said, I would hate it, because I don't plan on getting a Vita and I don't touch consoles period.

Persona is big but it's not DQ or MH big. Yakuza was also a 3rd Party Playstation exclusive franchise and now it isn't and Sony didn't do a thing to stop it.
I'd LOVE if Nintendo got their hands on Atlus. It'd really boost them in terms of awesomeness.
As long as they don't make Atlus stop making dark games... That'd be bad.

Which purely from a business standpoint (assuming they WANT to spend the money of course) makes even more sense to buy them. Your rival gets less game and you get a great catalogue of new IP's to work with.
I'm not sure Sony would want to get into a bidding war over Atlus. Sony has a couple of Western Developers they could buy right now like Quantic Dream. As I said previous, Yakuza is a big franchise in Japan and was exclusive to only Sony systems but now it isn't and Sony doesn't seem to care at all because the Japanese Gaming market while still revelant is the smallest of the 3. Atlus has a big following in Japan and while there is a fanbase in the West it still is niche regardless of how much the internet talks them up.I hope someone who treats them well gets them.
I am pretty sure either Nintendo or Sony will try to pick them up. Both of which would be perfectly fine (though if Sony does get them that would probably result in SMT x FE being either cancelled or heavily altered.
who of those has any money to buy them?

Nintendo has enough money to purchase them; They have 812.8 billion Yen (£6.7/$10.5 billion) in the bank as of March of 2012.Sony already has a publishing deal for Atlus in Europe, Atlus doesnt have publishing licenses for EU market.
This might help, IF Sony is interested in Atlus...
At least there would be a chance we could see Persona 5 before 2020, one of the teams of Japan Studio could make it...

I wasn't aware of that. What games are they Publishing for them?
On a related note, Nintendo is publishing SMT IV in Europe and parts of Asia.
Not really a great selection of publishers to choose from.
- Sega Sammy - Does Sega have enough money to purchase them? Last time I checked, they were cosying up to Nintendo to help bail them out.
- Konami - Last thing we need. A publisher with a record for piss-poor advertising anything that's not Metal Gear Solid or Soccer-related.
- Square-Enix - Yeah... no. Just no. I can already hear executives asking how they can "appeal to a Western audience" with Atlus new titles. Hmm, speaking of which...
- Capcom - Oh great! Can't wait for a sh_itton of on-disc DLC, appealing to the "Call of Duty" audience, and "ultimate" re-releases of Atlus games every six months. Wonderful!
Only companies from the list I trust are Tecmo Koei, Sony, Namco Bandai, and Nintendo. Still, I can't see Atlus going first-party though (however, Sony would be wise to jump on them; port all of the 3DS titles to PSVita and watch sales quadruple overnight in Japan) so my money is on either Tecmo Koei or Namco Bandai. They're both third-party and publish more niche titles so it seems to fit.
Its funny cuz Atlus rereleases its games all the time and they're doing a lot of DLC for SMT 4.Not really a great selection of publishers to choose from.

In all honesty, Capcom or Namco would make the most sense to take them. I only hope if Capcom does get them that they won't make the next Persona game a DLC ridden mess.

I'm almost certain that the Teams who made such wonderful games like Persona 4 and SMTIV are still on staff.
The only thing I'm hoping for this change of management is that no one gets fired, which is why we should root for Nintendo here. They don't lay people off for profit.
If a 1st party is to aquire them than I would want it to be Nintendo. Imagine the butthurt we will hear and see if Nintendo actually gets them. It would be glorious. And it would give the big N a big advantage in the JRPG territory.
If Nintendo purchases Altus then expect another Bayonetta 2 fiasco.
