I think people are missing the point horribly here....

After seeing the first trailer I was initially depressed about the vehicles and the removal of kazooies moves, but it finally dawned on me that RARE are looking to potentially revolutionise the platform genre in a similiar way to LBP.

The vehicles arent about "racing" , rather they are custom vehicles built to negotiate a large and complex world.

You the player are allowed to customise the skill set of the main character in a way never before imagined!

It could all be a disaster, but i applaud RARES ambition to offer us somethiung trully unique!

mijkil

Banjo is not even in the same league as LBP when it comes to revolutionizing and innovating...thats like comparing Tomaguchi (or wat ever they are called those little handheld thingies were u create a person feed him train him and have battles) to The Sims.

so that makes it more a racing game rather than a platform game...

Dahaka-UK

Except you don't actually race... You platform in vehicles.. I don't like the idea of it either.

How exactly do you platform in vehicles? That's ridiculous. I swear... Rare needs to sell themselves to Nintendo.. again.

this is pretty sad... M$'s influence on Rare has so far sucked...Rai

Don't know what makes you say that, Rare were horrible during the early GC era while still being owned by Nintendo, as they were incapable of putting out a single title except for Star Fox Adventures that was pretty forgetable imo. Under MS they have since 2005 once again started to get the hang of things and put out titles like the still gorgeus Conker remake Live & Reloaded, Perfect Dark Zero even though not as good as the original it was far from bad and had enoyable multiplayer and Kameo and Viva Pinata were great, and now they finally have the guts to work on a new Banjo game. So i would say they are slowly on their way back up. With that said MS made a really, really bad affair by buying for the price they did looking at how the titles they have developed under them have sold so far.

Uh, of course. The vehicles are part of the platforming. This game's about being creative to reach your next objective. Seeing as I'm quite a creative individual, I'm busting at the seams for this delicious treat.

Do people hate freedom in video games? Do they want to be led directly from point A to point B in the most obvious fashion? After seeing the reaction to games like Crysis, GTAIV and Banjo 3, I would have to say "yes".

Banjo 3 introduces on-the-fly custom vehicle making, something not seen anywhere other than in Spore, and people whine that it somehow no longer makes it a platformer just because you're not hopping from ledge to ledge through a linear level.

People really need to get with the times. Games are becoming more and more open-ended, and this will stretch to every genre, including platformers. And it's a good thing. More options, more choices, more possiblity for creative solutions = GOOD.

I don't know how anybody in their right mind can actually complain about these things, but after seeing some of the laughable complaints about GTAIV, I'd have to chalk it up to the fact that this is the most annoyingly nit-picky and demanding generation of gamers in history.

[QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"]

Did you guys REALLY just want another hum drum platformer? Think about how boring that would've been.

ESPECIALLY after mario galaxy.

fishfake

in banjo the solved that problem by getting specific moves, so why not make new ,funny and original moves+ HD graphics+ good new puzzles ?

How much more origanl can you get then building your own vehicles to collect things? People need to stop vrying and just wait and play it before you judge it. Every preview from Banjo said it was great.

"Rare would need to do something special to win over a skeptic public. At the end of the day, it was easy to read the smiling faces of the other visitors: This is the game that we've been waiting for Rare to deliver since being bought by Microsoft."-IGN

"Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is looking like Microsoft's first real success in expanding its first party offerings beyond the action and shooter genres. This is a game that all gamers can get behind. "-IGN

Those are some really great compliments for the game. People are not being open minded and trying to see what RARE is creating. This is not a "TRADITIONAL" platformer but it's still a platforming game. Instead of learning new moves to accomplish certain missions or collect certain peices, RARE is give you the tool' to CREATE your own way figuring out how to collect things.

This is what makes the game much deeper than just learning a new move that "THEY" implemented for you to complete a mission. For example, Instead od doing a backflip onto a high platform to collect a jiggy, you can creat a Pogostick or Launch off a ramp, then part from it in mid air and glide towards the jiggy. Fot those who keep saying it's a racing game need to seriously take off their RARE hate goggles. RARE said that this game is NOT a racing game. Sure there may be some mission where you may race. Just like in Mario Galaxy where you ride the sting ray, or race the ghost threw the galaxy to get the star, or race on the turtle shell under water. It's the SAME thing.

At first I was a bit skeptical and kind of dissapointed as well, but then I tried to look at it with an open mind and realized that potential and concept they are trying to deliver. Creating your own way to platform. meaning that everyone will have different ways of approaching a jiggy, or music note. Depending on what you create to help you. You can create whatever you want, with limitless possibilites. Just wait and play the game for yourself before you start bashing the game to threads.

IMO, if its a vast Majority of Vechicle based stuff, it isnt going to score very well. I want a True Next Gen Platformer damnit.

And you're getting it. Unless you have a better idea how to evolve the platform game genre to take advantage of next-gen hardware. Do you?

The concept, as others have said, is that instead of having a platformer where the only solution is the one the developers make for you, in this game, there are tons of different solutions that the player can create themselves, by building their own special abilities and moves into the vehicles they create. In this way, Rare is trying to create a completely open platformer, where the player is limited only by their imagination in what they can do.

Will they succeed? It's too early to say, but to write it off because it's a racing game or something is just absurd.

Banjo 3 should have made a mix of thier original formula and the new vehicle thing Rare is doing. I am getting more and more disinterested. This game is going to be forgettable for me along with LBP.

If they give a equal balance of Vechicle adn Platforming, ill be hooked. I though the later Jak games were good because I thought they had a good Balance of Vechicle and Platforming.

Banjo 3 looks fantastic

I don't understand why people are getting upset. It's not as if they can compete with Mario Galaxy head on and there's no way Banjo will be worse than that terrible Ratchet and Cratchet game

It'll be just as much fun creating new vehicles in Banjo as it is creating levels in little big planet, and the graphics are amazing

Wow, this game just went into "stupidity land" really quick. The platforming parts on it looked fun....I wonder why all the vehicles. If it's really 80% vehicles I'm going to pass (and I think that will hurt it critically as well).

kay, people. I've played [and loved] banjo kazooie and tooie; in fact, i still play it to this day. This new game is STILL a BK game - the music is the same, the humor is the same, the sound effects are the same, the characters are the same, banjo's moves are the same, spiral mountain is there, you still collect notes and jiggies - except now, you add vehicles. The problem with the term "vehicles" is that people [including me] tend to think about driving around, when really, all you're doing is using it to get to that next jiggie. Instead of using the long jump pad, you add a spring to the bottom of a vehicle that shoots you up, etc. There are still parts of classic platforming, and theres a few videos that prove it (if you go to rarewitchprojects websites and check out 2 of their videos, it shows banjo walking around, climbing stuff, etc. This also might make people feel better:

Gregg Mayles: You can buy upgrades to Banjo's basic abilities - speed, strength and stamina.

Again, the only thing that has changed is that kazooie's moves are gone - and the shoes. Granted, i loved both of those things - but the change they're adding will still be fantastic.

edit: oh, and everyone that has played the game absolutely LOVES it.

- "Rare wows us with its new-look Banjo."
- "This is the game that we've been waiting for Rare to deliver since being bought by Microsoft."
- "We've seen and played new Banjo and haven't lost a single night's sleep worrying about the direction the bear and bird are going in. You shouldn't either."
- "The game? So clearly Rare"

etc etc.

Waffle_Fish

Was there any single mention anywhere of RACING?

No, GTA4 has cars... doesn't make it a racer, in Oblivion you ride horses... doesn't make it a horse racing game.

Lose the ignorance.

But it would be as if 80% of GTAIVs missions were based on vehicle related activities.

umm that actually does sound about right...

It's been a roller coaster ride with me for Banjo in just this week alone. I loved it from the first screens, then the heavy vehicle emphasis put me off, then the gameplay put me back on, and then the 80% thing came and I was disappointed at first. But I'm intrigued by this and am actually really looking foward to it. I would love to see a different kind of platformer (Ratchet is getting stale and Mario Galaxy is flat out boring). I'm excited to see how Rare can pull this off.

People are complaining about this twist, but I'm sure most of these people are ones who scream for innovation. Well, sometimes you just gotta try something new to see how it works. And I've got a gut feeling this is going to work out very well.

[QUOTE="Dahaka-UK"][QUOTE="Malta_1980"]

so that makes it more a racing game rather than a platform game...

Bread_or_Decide

Except you don't actually race... You platform in vehicles.. I don't like the idea of it either.

That may be more fun than you think. We really should wait to see how this turns out before we get hysterical about it.

EXACTLY,everybody already jumpin the gun here and sayin it sucks when they havent even played it!!!For all we know it could be the best banjo yet

Why are people seriously so worried about this? Do they really expect to be able to put a propeller on top of a vehicle and just fly from the beginning of the level to the end?
