It was hyped AAA, and scored AAA. While many lemmings wish it would be higher (which is sad, really...) - it's a AAA score.

True. Casey has a big problem with people not liking Jeff's review but it seems not so much with people yelling flop.

Why not take it all the way and ban the word flop altogether? People always get bent out of shape on this forum, that what this forum is for. Whenever a big game comes out, people insult it or praise it endlessly. Users should be allowed to call this game a flop (if it is or isn't) or whatever (as long as they don't break the ToS and do it in the offical form post), you don't have to listen to them, or even respond to them. Sure it make cause a bit of chaos, but then again that nothing to worry youself over either.

I see no reason why Bioshock should be an exception to this.

Gears was very close to perfection. Only 4% points shy.

Not that I believe Jeff did a poor job reviewing the game or anything, but I really wish GameSpot's reviews were more consistent. I understand that standards change and different reviewers have different tastes, but its getting ridiculous after Zelda flopped...Mercenary343

Well, c'mon.

Warioware scoring higher than Bioshock. Ninja Gaiden Sigma (remake of a remake, standards should of lowered this score as it is the same core gameplay as 2004) scored the same, etc.

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that it would be nice to have consistent reviews that we could rely on more. These scores just increase the ignorant fanboy posts (not that they can be avoided, just decreased).

WOW! I expected at least 9.5. Gamespot is a very harsh reviewer but I do agree about the dying spawns. It made Prey less fun than it could of been.Metroid_Time

I dont mind that because lots of gamers arent as well versed as others. I need the handicap.

good review, but i don't know if you can knock a game for having a few hitches after playing for oh so long. I don't play games for to long so i don't experience any problems but i would assume that the 360 overheating would cause that, just my 2 centsgander448

of course, who knows how the guy ventaliates his 360 or if AC was turned off. Who knows who cares it got AAA.

I just got done playing through the PC demo but oddly enough some things are missing. Now im simply basing this on the demo and not the final build but it's strange enough to oddly effect the game.

Gore effects were removed for PC version for some reason, the film that plays when you recieve incinerate is missing and the game seems brighter then it's 360 counterpart. Withthat saidthough thegameplay felt easier however thanks to the nature of thekeyboard and mouse setting,Bioshock is well optimized and if you pass the minimum requirements considering that if you lower some of the graphical options will give you solid frames and while I wasnt really running on DX10 the game still looks beautiful. Either way it feels like both versions will be getting the same awesome Bioshock experience.

I did think it was pretty funny how Jeff wrote as a con, "Annoying hitches cause the game to freeze for a few seconds at a time, but it only seems to start happening after playing the game for several hours."

I know he was reviewing it, but playing a game for "several hours" still implies it's probably pretty good, so it's just a funny sentence.

A poorly written review. A score based on faulty hardware. Nobody else has encountered this glitch. Not one reviewer, or person who has experianced this glitch but Jeff. The review is a cop-out, just to give the game a 9.0. GS reviews are meant to be low I guess. GS reviewers want the site to be considered hardcore. Wait till every other review is out and then give the game the lowest score out of all reviewers. I find this to be a sick publicity stunt that is obviously working. Even gamefaqs Bioshock board has a horrible biased sticky on it for this horribly written and reviewed game from gamespot. Yes, lets all praise GS for being so hardcore, and not followind the tred of givin this game the props it deserves. Lets all be rebels with a cause to do wrong. Lets not be rebels to do good in this world, who sees wrong in it and doesn't want to follow the trends of something gone wrong. Instead lets create something gone wrong like a government with an agenda, and have our Secret Police(mods) keep the general public in line. How dare we speak out for what we feel is right!!Nintendose3good

PC games get lower scores for performance and bugs all the time, look at Stalker for example. Don't blame reviewers for the current run of console performance issues.

Last gen both Sony and Microsoft would not let a game out the door unless it ran at a minimum of 60 fps at all times and had no major bugs. The current gen of a 30fps for games is half that of the last gen and if microsoft are leaving standards drop buy half in that regard then they are going to be more lax when bugs are concerned also.

The glithc has nothing to do with the game. It was Jeffs crappy faulty Xbox360. Next thing you know he'll be claiming that his light bulb is faulty when it wont work with a faulty lamp.

9.0 Means Bioshock will not be GOTY here , Fallout 3 will get 9.5 and will get GOTY award.007ybse04

Fallout 3 is not coming out this year......but as for 2008....I won't argue with you there. That game looks awesome ;)

9.0 is a great score no doubt, but I am quite letdown in Jeff's reasons for holding it back from a 9.5 or a 10.

Oblivion is far more glitchy than Bioshock and yet it got a 9.6, maybe Greg would have realized what Bioshock really was about.

This game is really important to the industry and a HUGE step in the right direction for what game production should mean to developers.

Hopefully nobody will be shallow enough to not buy this game simply b/c it didn't get a 9.5 or higher.

So far it's the best game I've played in the last 5 or so years. Better than Halo or Half life 2 in my book.

Close to my expectations. I honestly thought that GS would consider it 9.5-10 material with the new (and more lenient in my opinion) grading system, but its AAA status was practically a given since the beginning.

So my opinion of thinking it was a flop compared to my expectations would get me modded? Or just saying it failed to meet general expectations (It totally met and went past mine and other's expectations IMO, truly the best atmosphere I have ever played in, period, my favourite setting since The Zone in Chernobyl and Tropical jungles of Far Cry)

Anyways, that was just purely hypothetical, I played the PC demo today and it was just a screenshot moment every step, wonderful game, too bad there arn't much plasmids in the demo to construct elaborate traps with.
