Ubisoft, based in the Paris suburb of Montreuil-Sous-Bois, had seven Wii games out by December and plans six more by June, said Tony Key, vice president of marketing.

"It's not really a bet anymore,'' he said. "It's a viable system that's going to make us money.''

Ubisoft, EA, and Take-two are three of the largest publishers in the world... wherever they go everybody else follows ;)

You didn't get what I meant... :|

what did u mean?

It's funny how Ubisoft admits they just want to make money with the Wii, just as everyone has been complaining.

Which company doesn't want to make money. However, if they want to make money, they'll have to make good games, or they won't get any sales.

True. After all, they're not only making games for the Wii, they're also competing against Nintendo's games.

Every dev wants to make money,

exactly why the Wii will get the most games this gen ;)

And how many of those games are going to be ports of old games and garbage? The vast majority.

and why is that... because u say so?

Games sell on the Wii, good games will sell better, do the math.

Indeed. Most fanboys forget about the economics of it all. Developers arn't making games for the fun of it. They make them to make money. The past few months have seen alot of quick ports and cheap games...because the Wii caught everyone off guard. And the software isn't selling so well. But later in the year, AAA titles will be arriving and will be selling great, making the devs more money and attracting even more devs. It's a chain reaction.

That is pretty retarded logic considering that the hardware is weak so why would they develop completely new IP's when they can just rehash games that casuals hadn't played on the ps2.  They are making all this money on rehashs so the rehashs are what will continue to come.  Developers approach the wii as last gen.  PS2 is still a top selling console which means people are happy with ps2 games and you will continue to see ps2 games on the wii.

Newsflash for you.  The vast majority of games on every system ever made are ports and garbage.  Also, the reason that the Wii has so many PS2 ports is because devs want to make money.  Not having time to make a full fledged game, they just gave the Wii ports of their older games.  Devs aren't in the bussiness to make good games (except for maybe Miyamoto) they're in the bussiness to make money.  Usually these go hand in hand, but if crap games are their best option, then that's what they will make.

Wii did break launch records etc, but the records it set in the Uk for example have since been broken. Nintendo need to ship more consoles out to the shops in order to attract more customers and retain a grip on the market becuase at the moment a Wii will stay on the shelf for about a minute before a gamer snaps it up.

Eothein

I'd like to talk about that for a minute.  Right now Nintendo is shipping and selling more consoles globally than any of their competitors.  Yet in many places you cannot find their product on the shelf.

They're not short-shipping.  The sales numbers prove that.  So shipping more units isn't really a matter of retaining a grip on the market, it's a question of how much tighter Nintendo can squeeze.

Let's give an example of how that works most of the time. At laucnh Ubisoft provided a number of shoddy ports and two "proper" Wii games. The ports didn't sell paticularily well, but the two Wii games, Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, were two of the best selling games at launch.

[QUOTE="Setsa"]The Wii is going to die out buddy, it s jsut a matter of time now. Sure it seems fun to play at first, but it is crap for hardcore gamers. Only three types of people buy the Wii in my perspective: people who are just breaking into the gaming society, people whoa re rich enough to afford multiple systems (Wii + 360/PS3), or little kids with ADD/ ADHD.Tylendal

Yeah, because little kids with ADD hate playing twitch games like FPSers and arcade racers. And the Wii has a ton of those compared to say, the 360.

I am sick of this rampant ignorance that hardcore gamers are people who only play M games and FPSers. It pisses me off. I've been gaming since consoles first appeared in homes. I've owned numerous consoles and handhelds and I follow the industry religiously. ANd you know what? I bought a Wii. Why? Because as a "hardcore gamer" I care about all games as long as they are fun and entertaining to play. And as a hardcore gamer I am sick of the militantly vocal minority thinking they know what they are talking about yet look like fools everytime they open their biased fanboy mouths.

If you judge consoles by their ratings and not by great games...then you, sir, are not hardcore. You are a poser. You are a fraud. Stop making those of us who are REAL gamers look bad by making such ignorant and insulting posts.

You're as much of a tool for speaking out and rambling quick biased judgement about hardcore gamers. In case you didn't know, which is quite obvious, there are Core Gamers out there who have different taste than YOU do. It really depends on what the Core gamers are into these days.

I'm 29, and been gaming since 1982, with the Atari 400 as my 1st ever console. Since then and for the past 22 years after the NES release, my taste in games have "evolved". Occasionally, I love the pick and play games like Tetris on my old GB. To this day, I'm still addicted to Tetris. But I also love the mature, complex games that we have today, with some minor exceptions (I despise RPGs). I'm mostly into FPS, RTS, Sim Racers, Action-adventure.

The point of all this is just because YOU'RE a hardcore gamer, doesn't necessarilly mean all OTHER hardcore gamers have to like what the Wii has to offer. Honestly, the Wii, IMO, just doesn't cut it. As for Nintendo, their 1st party titles have been pretty mediocre at best, in the past few years. The last Nintendo game I played was LoZTP on GC and it was a great game, but not better than OoT.

From my PoV and as a Core Gamer, Nintendo can reap all the benefits as a successful gaming company. Good for them for redeeming themselves, Good for them for expanding the market. That's the way big businesses survive in this type of industry. But as far as the games are concerned, I'd rather look to other platforms and enjoy the games that serve my interests and taste.

I fail to find one single rebuttal in your post towards anything I said. But you get to call someone a tool...so good on you.

The fact is that no logical "hardcore gamer" can write off ANY console as being a "fad" or "kiddie". You can say all you want that some games don't appeal to you. That's fine and I would agree. But to write off an entire console the way the person I quoted did, is not the action of a hardcore gamer or someone who cares about playing great games. It is the words of someone who cares more about image than actual gaming.

A true hardcore gamer wouldn't be so biased as to drop an entire system. A true hardcore gamer would never fault something for being "kiddy"..

Lol, who you kidding? Of course they would.  The hardcore gamers are the ones with nice tv's, nice setups, and expect a lot out of games, including online features, while the wii is targeting casuals.  If you thing otherwise you are ignorant.  I hate all these people pretending the wii is so hardcore.  Its more hardcore because its weaker and about gameplay...nonsense.  Simply nonsense.  Hardcore is huge online communities, nice setups, fancy consoles, not a cheap system with ports from last gen. LOL.

Wrong.  No console has had the bulk of its developed games come from ports of games from the previous gen.  Sorry that I played 50% of the wii games on my xbox, ps2, and cube.

Because casuals buy them, doesn't make them good games.  Red Steel was god-aweful, and rayman was entertaining for about 10 hours and then it dawns on you that all you do is flail your hands in alternating directions for 75% of the minigames.  Neither was critically good, nor does anyone I know who owns either like either.  Sales does not imply quality.

My favorite part of the article:

"Developers are going to have to give the Wii their best branded products"

Hey man, maybe party games and ports are your thing.  More power to you.  I will be enjoying Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Motorstorm, Resistance, Too human, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden 2, Halo 3, Forza 2, Burnout 4, FF13, MGS3, DMC4........have fun with more mario games pal.

All of the consoles will be getting big games this year, but you will find as the generation progresses and the Wii's lead widens, it will have the majority of them. It's pretty much a rule of thumb that the top selling console gets the lions share of the games.

Wii did break launch records etc, but the records it set in the Uk for example have since been broken. Nintendo need to ship more consoles out to the shops in order to attract more customers and retain a grip on the market becuase at the moment a Wii will stay on the shelf for about a minute before a gamer snaps it up.

Iyethar

I'd like to talk about that for a minute.  Right now Nintendo is shipping and selling more consoles globally than any of their competitors.  Yet in many places you cannot find their product on the shelf.

They're not short-shipping.  The sales numbers prove that.  So shipping more units isn't really a matter of retaining a grip on the market, it's a question of how much tighter Nintendo can squeeze.

Well for one if they put more products on the shelves and you make profit on each console sold, its no bad thing to ship more of them to the stores for more of them to be sold.

I wasn't accusing them of short shipping or any other conspiracy theory. But not having the Wii consoles on the shelf ready for people to just buy is damaging themselves for no real reason.

Plus there are still hundreds of pre orders in the Uk that are waiting for their consoles the ones they should have got a whole lot sooner.

True. After all, they're not only making games for the Wii, they're also competing against Nintendo's games.

Every dev wants to make money,

exactly why the Wii will get the most games this gen ;)

Dude the same can be said for 360 and PS3 games.  ESPCIALLY PS3 games with mediocre titles like Motorstorm and Resistance.  Keep living in your fanboy dream world with the Wii not getting any games.  The matter of fact is the Wii WILL be getting good games and your just going to have to deal with it.

[QUOTE="Setsa"]The Wii is going to die out buddy, it s jsut a matter of time now. Sure it seems fun to play at first, but it is crap for hardcore gamers. Only three types of people buy the Wii in my perspective: people who are just breaking into the gaming society, people whoa re rich enough to afford multiple systems (Wii + 360/PS3), or little kids with ADD/ ADHD.MasterChumly

LOL.

 did you just get out of middle school? Man what a joke. Your are the DEFINITION of a pre-teen trying to be cool with mature games. You'll get through it eventually dont worry.

Yes I am pre-teen.  I am glad you can read my personal history from my post.  Had you bothered looking at my previous posts or my background you would see that I am very adult.  Big boys, with good jobs, make money.  This money then translates into nice things.  Sorry you fail to understand this concept.  Stick to studying, schools key to success.

Yep. it's just a phase.

Well then it is a phase I would prefer to stay in considering that Nintendo didnt manage to fool me into keeping a rehash of their previous console.

No, hardcore is enjoying games, having fun, and not worrying about things like whether you play "cool" games.

And how many of those games are going to be ports of old games and garbage? The vast majority.

Wrong.  No console has had the bulk of its developed games come from ports of games from the previous gen.  Sorry that I played 50% of the wii games on my xbox, ps2, and cube.

The majority of the Wii's games are exclusives.  Also, sorry, but every console made has had horrible games for most of it's lineup.  Just have gamespot list all games for any system, and then tell it to rank by score.  The quality will drop fast.

Once again, read the previous posts, I did own all three, sold the wii because no one used it.  Only person who was interested in it was my gf, but I got her a ds instead and sold my wii to a buddy with a 7 year old because I figured that it would atleast be used then.

If someone offered you a wii with zelda and an edtv or a ps3 with resistance and a 1080p hdtv, I am sure you would take the ps3.  And once again I had just recently sold my wii.  I have owned all three consoles since launch, and sold the wii about 2 weeks ago now.  So to call me a fanboy is rather funny since the wii is pretty much the only console I dont own since atari. Dr_DudeMan
I'd take the PS3, because I already have a Wii, and if I didn't, I'd still take the Playstation 3 because it is worth so much more.  However, I'd get a Wii anyways.  But if I could only get one, then never get the other... Wii, all the way.

If someone offered you a wii with zelda and an edtv or a ps3 with resistance and a 1080p hdtv, I am sure you would take the ps3. And once again I had just recently sold my wii. Why are you talking about 1080p TVs as though the PS3 comes with a free one? If you want one you'll have to pay a lot for it.

 I love how your trying to "act" all big and tough. People with money just buy all three consoles anyways. Post some more of your insider knowledge to the public were getting a good laugh out of it.

Once again, read the previous posts, I did own all three, sold the wii because no one used it.  Only person who was interested in it was my gf, but I got her a ds instead and sold my wii to a buddy with a 7 year old because I figured that it would atleast be used then.

My friend sold his PS3 for a loss because he was so sick of the crappy games on it.  He was pissed that he couldnt even get even because nobody else wants one either.  Keep dreaming that the Wii is only a kiddie machine and maybe one day it will come true.

If this is true, (which it is) it only means that PS3 and 360 were ahead of their time with HD, because the majority of people don't have HDTVs, and don't plan on getting them anytime soon.  This just goes to show that Nintendo knew what they were doing when they didn't include HD in the Wii.

The wii does not support high end audio, so people with nice surround sound get feedback.  It also only supports 480p which does not display properly on very large 1080p tv's.  So what reason would someone with this set-up have to keep the wii? Not only that but the 480p causes massive underscanning so then the image gets warped.  This did not make me a happy camper.

 Keep it coming man your hilarious. People with nice set-ups own all the consoles because they have the money for it. If you honestly think that people with nice setups are automatically going to dislike the Wii then your just in Denial.

That's the only T.V. you have in your house?  Besides, your set up is the exception, rather than the rule.

And you called me pre-teen. Its called logic, regardless of sale people would take the vastly superior console along with the tv with vastly superior image quality.

............ Ok now this is just depressing me. People are going to take the MOST EXPENSIVE PACKAGE if they get offered it for free. Mabye you cant comprehend that? Anyways since youve lowered yourself to the most extreme of the fanboys ill stop posting so youll hopefully stop embarrassing yourself.

Lol very mature.  I have not received a single post from you with a legitimate argument.  They wouldn't pick the most expensive just because it is expensive, they would pick it because it is better.  They would have an amazing high-def entertainment center that is blu-ray ready or hd-dvd ready if they opt for the 360.  But nonetheless people by the wii because it is cheap.  It sells well because it is cheap.  Not because it is better.  You have proved my point.  Casuals are dumb.  If they take the most expensive because it is most expensive then they buy the cheapest because it is the cheapest, NOT because it is the best or because it will have the best games.

Exactly, and most people can't, so the wii is enjoying continued last gen success, while the other two try to be progressive. And for those of us with nice tv's the wii does not compare to the other two because of terrible online gaming and it doesn't take advantagous of the set-ups we have accumulated.

Better vs expensive....

A Wii and a solid gold to scale model computer, vs a PS3 and a high end computer.

Well I have to take off, but the point I was trying to make is the sheep throw phrases like "best console" around, when they should be saying "best-selling console."  The wii is not the best console because it sells the most.  Selling the most makes it the best-selling.

The only other point I was trying to make is just because it will have the most games, does not mean they will be good games.  All the big name titles will still be 360/ps3 titles and the last-gen ports and rushed new IPs will flood the wii because companies know that the hardest core FFer's and MGSer's are playstation loyal.  And MS's online and Halo will keep MS fans at MS and shooters/competative online games coming to the 360.  Just because the wii sells best doesn't mean it will get all the good games, nor does it guarantee that any of the new IP's will be good game at all for that matter.  Only time will tell.

But at this point in time, sheep should acknowledge that they have the worst system (online and hardware), but they do have the best-selling system which could translate into some good games down the road.  And with companies like EA and Ubisoft backing the wii I wouldn't get too excited just yet ;D.

Young?  Someone called me a preteen, and I sarcastically responded that I am one.  If you actually thought I was one after reading all my posts, I can't believe I wasted all this time debating with you.  Obviously I am old.Â
