indeed and you will still see PC kicking console toys ass at the end.Money does wonders.

I think they mean, the "average" of the platform.
If the PS4 sticks to the current specs, I do think it'll be on par, if not slightly more powerful than the avrage gmaing PC out there. Â That doesn't mean it will be as powerful as high end rigs, but high end rigs aren't representative of the whole PC gaming gamut of hardware.
Of course, he seems to have had a stroke or something because he also seems to ocmpletley forget that console hardware is fixed, while PC hardware continues to evolve. Â So in the NEAR future, he's right, but in the actual future, he becomes very wrong, again.
I don't exactly see how.Â
TW3 has the PC as it's lead platform, and CP2077 looks to be the same. By the time they finish Cyberpunk, we'll be in the middle of a GPU refresh and new CPU Architectures from Intel(Skylake) at the very least.Â
I'm generally curious if he's ever going to clarify on that statement =o

saw this funny comment from a guy on PC gamer
What he's saying is this :
Â
We as a Studio want to grow , and thus we feel it's time to play a more prominent role in the console gaming landscape.
Â
To achieve this we need to shift our priorities to the consoles as our primary platforms.
One of the things we need to be successful on the console market , is advertising which will leave us with increased costs.
Â
To compensate for this , we will be joining the paid DLC bandwagon.
And effectively shorten our dev cycles by optimizing our games and engine tech for console hardware, instead of putting extra dev time and cost into exotic high end PC hardware exclusive features.
Â
We know our PC customers love these features but they represent a rather small user-base in our total market and it's just not financially feasible to cater to the needs of such a small group of people.
Â
Instead we will bring you games equal to the console experience , take it or leave it .
Â
We thank you all for your loyal support over the years we couldn't have done this without you !!
But we're going to play with the big boys now ..
Â
goodbye,
PC gets no games, when it does it gets turds like Simcity and Diablo 3.
No one cares about the pc platform anymore.
diablo 3 was a turd because it was already designed with consoles in mind..PC gets no games, when it does it gets turds like Simcity and Diablo 3.

Okay I agree if that's what he meant. I do believe the PS4 will be more powerful that the average PC.I think they mean, the "average" of the platform.

I have no idea what's he aiming at, PC will always have a power advantage over consoles, and the gap always becomes wider as the console gen goes on, but fine, won't fault him for his statement, it's very vague, and he hasn't even explained himself properly...
I've been gaming for a very long time. I've noticed that console and PC gaming have been merging slowly with each generation. At some point, they'll be so close it won't matter anymore. I have no problem with that. But, I don't expect it "real soon." Perhaps when 4k is the norm.

When hardware becomes software. Sure
Â
Anyways they most likely mean average user which can easily be true at the beginning of a console launchÂ
Probably along the lines of these:I have no idea what's he aiming at, PC will always have a power advantage over consoles, and the gap always becomes wider as the console gen goes on, but fine, won't fault him for his statement, it's very vague, and he hasn't even explained himself properly...

eh, he doesn't give any hard evidence or facts or anything. Just mere speculation on his part and it sounds like PR crap to me to get everyone hyped for TW3 across all platforms.Â
I would love if it were true cos then we would all have the same game and no compromises but PC will always have stronger hardware year in year out than a fixed system. He just sounds like he's pandering here

That's putting false words in someone's mouth and that's never a good idea. That's what sh!tty tabloid journalism does.
It's true however that a unified set of hardware is far easier to optimise for than what the PCs huge range of hardware is
[QUOTE="Rocker6"]Probably along the lines of these: We're tired of developing for PC gamers of which 10% max have the ultimate hypersuper rigs we develop our textures and lighting effects around. Most of them still run a 9800 GT, while next-gen consoles will have 1 unified hardware we can work to get maximum efficiency out. When we don't appease to that 10% with minor details like realistic moving hair, we get flak that influences over 80% of our sales.I have no idea what's he aiming at, PC will always have a power advantage over consoles, and the gap always becomes wider as the console gen goes on, but fine, won't fault him for his statement, it's very vague, and he hasn't even explained himself properly...
DrTrafalgarLaw
The part about 9800 GT is blatantly incorrect, but you could be having a point. While consoles will never outmatch high-end gaming rigs, yeah, it's possible we'll reach a point where they can manage to outmatch most average gaming PCs.
Only, I don't see it happening so soon, for example, the PS4 hardware is an equivalent of a current mid-range PC, and will only continue to fall behind over the years. But we'll probably reach some gen where the gap will be much less wide...

I already know the PS4 is already more powerful then ALL the average pc out there right now.. Unless you a hardcore pc gamers and always upgrading and paying thousand of dollars to get the best specs. The avarage PC? Â Well, there's billions of them. Â I'm tlaking about the average GAMING PC. That seems a lot more pertinent to the discusison, don't you agree?
As for developing for PS4 first... well that doesn't seem the way some publishers are thinking. Ubisoft CEO recently said that PC is the lead platform for Watch dogs, and in the future they would likely develop for PC and port to consoles.

Given the fact that the next line of consoles ARE pretty much PC's I say almost every game will be designed on PC then ported across.[QUOTE="JMR09"]I'm surprised no one has mentioned 8 GB of......Oh god what have I started.stayhigh18GB GDDR5 on the PS4 making pc developers very very happy thats why they leaning even more towards consoles gaming now. Joking aside, I'm really glad that the limited RAM of this past generation of consoles is being addressed to such a great degree.
The key is developing console architecture that cannot be copied by PCs, sort of like what the PS4 is doing with its GDDR5 and APU set up. Sure, some high end PC builders will manage to do it but it won't be mainstream in any way. PCs are in a sense restricted by its own architecture, as it's been stuck with the CPU/GPU/RAM/Mobo set up for years now.
MS and Sony can do whatever they want to build an architecture that is more future proof. On the other hand, the PC industry is restricted by the sheer amount of momentum it's created in terms of how people understand how to build a standard gaming PC. It's sort of like the car industry where innovations haven't really been witnessed for some time.

When you develop for PC, you develop for thousands of possible different hardware setups. You also have to take different GPU drivers into account.
That's an overhead that will only give headache to PC developers. Why develop for the elite 10% and have your efforts wasted, when you can bring your games to everyone?NoodleFighter

True but no one can deny how powerful console optimisation is at times. On paper you shouldn't have games as good looking as U3 or the GOW games on that awful hardware but they managed to pull some tricks and get it to work. PC goes under less strenuous optimisation because you can usually throw better hardware at it and be done with it.Â
More often than not PC devs will just say "Upgrade your rig" rather than spend as much time optimising as console devs do. Which I hate to admit but people like ND can do magic with crap hardware. Still make it run at 720p and 30fps and look decent. I really wish they made a PC game someday :(
Lol. The PC I built 4 months ago is more powerful than the PS4 ever will be. The same thing will be true when the next console generation starts.
heretrix
And that would be great if every single PC user had the same rig, but because we don't it makes PC games a little more up and down in terms of performance. In fact if we all had GTX titans with i7s we would have unbelievable looking games but PC gamers with low powered rigs are holding back PC visuals just as much as consoles are

I really don't see what's so good looking about Uncharted, I played Unchared 3 on that fire level and it looked like ass, the co op I guess looked ok
The game isn't very big on scale so I find it easy for that type of graphics, also Playstation first party devs have been known to use prebaked/static visuals
The closest we have to naughty dog on PC is Red Barrel Games,
also look at this game being ran on a Geforce 7600

[QUOTE="EvanTheGamer"]diablo 3 was a turd because it was already designed with consoles in mind.. It was designed with outdated mechanics in mind. Moving character with mouse = fail. Don't forget DRM King Steam and in-game microtransactions, like stupid TF2 hats and other MMO cosmetics.High end gamers... they have my sympathy: 2000 dollars for 2 games a year that optimize their system, IF you can name two a year, that is...

It doesn't look ZOMG amazing !! or anything but it's a very competent game for the hardware it's running off. If it had slightly better textures and AA it would look so much better
