Giving such credibilty to a survey is like taking a poll on CowSpot as the end all of opinions. Official/Government studies have shown that the 360 failure rate is less than 20% and that includes the lesser errors than the RROD. The PS3. by the way, has about 10%.

ChrisJ2004

They're so official you didn't provide a link.

I didn't think I needed to. Can you not use Google? Afraid to find the tuth for yourself? Fine. Here.

This is just one. Wikipedia has a whole page dedicated to many such studies.

l2google

*logs into wikipedia......Searches declaration of independance......adds a sentence at the bottom to say the phrase "George W. Bush doesnt like black people" (no racist).* LINK

Do you see where im going with all this "official" talk?

EDIT:

^^^^I edited that just now.

Failure rates are not subject to surveys. Those numbers could all be inflated.Brownesque
I'm pretty sure ALL those numbers are about 3 or 4 times what they really are.

l2google

Ah, good old squaretrade. Might want to check your reading glasses, buddy:

PLEASE NOTE: this report only tracks this test group for a period of 6 to 10 months after warranty purchase (ending January 31, 2007). Once this same test group is tracked for 24 or 36 months, the fail rate is certain to go up.

Moreover, if you actually bothered to read the actual study you would find this:

http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_Xbox360_PS3_Wii_Reliability_0809.pdf

Microsoft's policy may result in an underreporting of failures by Xbox 360 owners to SquareTrade, relative to the other two consoles. Because the RROD problem is so widely known to be covered by Microsoft's warranty, we believe that more customers bypass SquareTrade and reported failures directly to the Microsoft. In a survey of SquareTrade customers with Xbox 360s conducted by email, SquareTrade found that over half of our customers who experienced a RROD error reported their problem directly to Microsoft without contacting SquareTrade. Email survey respondents tend to be a self-selecting group, so the data should be used directionally rather than definitively, particularly because we did not survey PS3 and Wii owners with the same question. With that caveat in mind, applying the survey data to the analysis shows that the Xbox 360 failure rate could be as high as 35%.

While Microsoft initially claimed in February 2007i that the "return" rate on Xbox 360s did not exceed 3-5%, they later published an open apology on July 5th, 2007 and announced a $1.15 billion fund to be set aside for Xbox 360 repair and replacement

Why, exactly, do you care so much about the failure rate of a console you don't even own?

You pretend to hate the 360, but I don't think you do. When someone doesn't like something, they usually don't give it much thought at all; much less put near as much time into bashing as you do the 360....I beginning to think you're genuinely jealous.

Cows are always, always, ALWAYS going to fall back on their hardware failure argument when all else fails. And this is coming from someone who loves my PS3 a whole lot more than my 360.] Also, perhaps this thread would have been taken as more informative and less fanboyish if not posted by someone named TREY_FOR_LI4E?

That;s INCREDIBLE!!!!!

such a huge failure rate:shock:

TC you have brought up a very good topic.

With such records people must have been flocking to the PS3.

This must really help the PS3 since millions of those Xbox360 users must be fed up and get the PS3 over the Xbox360!!!

So how come I don't see the PS3 kicking but against such mediocrity??

And before you say the price drop is making the difference

EEAD mentioned that the salesrate for the PS3is dimishing faster then the Xbox360 post price drop.

So it will be back to normal in a few months where consumers get Wii>Xbox360>PS3.

^^and people still buy Xbox360s and heaps of games. Attach ratios, often multiplats still sell more..

The PS3 should have been in the lead ages ago.

Maybe next year will be the year it will happen. You never know 99%ofXbox360 will crash then maybe it might give the PS3 a chance.

How do you think we measure the metric for large groups? When a TV show is said to have had 25 million viewers on a particular night do you think each of those 25 million people were counted? No, a representative sample (in this case the Nelsons) were polled. It is the same for NPD numbers or any large volume going back to the beginning of civilization (1 black sheep represents X number of white, you don't count the entire heard just the black ones). Internet surveys, where anyone can participate, can be easily skewed but random surveys, like the one performed by GI, are a pretty good estimation. Considering that there is only a 6% difference between the CNET and GI survey I would say that this reinforces the extremely high RROD rate.

More like Hooray for yet another poll that doesn't take into account the large failure rate of LAUNCH systems and the low failure rate of systems less than 3 years old.

and yet again system wars IQ drops even lower.

1. This is the internet, don't believe everything you read

2. what is stopping from ANYONE lying just to give the xbox360 a high failure rate, I'm sure lots of people would do it for kicks

3. Its been proving before that gamers will vote for something to go in there favour, like rated games to give a lower score making the dam look bad

So it will be back to normal in a few months where consumers get Wii>Xbox360>PS3.

the PS3 is destroying the 360 in sales ever since September in US and I don't even want to mention how bad the 360 is doing in Europe and Japan for i don't want to bring sadness to the hearts of lemmings.

I love how ps3 fanboys don't use sales to look at overall numbers but use sales to look at it over a 2 month picture

Until September the 360 was far enough ahead in the US to stay...Nice try though, PS3 won't catchup anytime soon. Then again, it's always refreshing to see cows telling us that sales suddenly matter again...

far ahead lol they never went past that year head start lead even being $200 cheaper and that lead is shrinking day by day not even halo odst was enough to save the 360 the last couple of months lol :D

for the record even before september the sales between PS3 and 360 yearly was even mostly with PS3 selling more yearly the $299 price tag was like the straw that broke the camels back now 360 can't even compete not even with a halo game where they able to move consoles enough to beat thePS3 slim.

This hardware failure rate is just outrageous. But what's even more outrageous is that there are people that keep buying these defective hardware.

I DON'T GET IT! :?
