What's with everyone complaining about $55 for a controller. The SIXAXIS is $59.99 (CDN), so is the 360 controller. The Wii-mote is $44.99 and the Nunchuk is $24.99.
But yes, "us cows" are sure getting milked.

i have no idea why this has to be repeated so many times. it seems people would rather reply to the first page of posts rather than look through the thread.
it's not that it's 5$ more - it's that many many many people have already bought numerous controllers, none with rumble - and now they've finally released the 'final' version of the dualshock for the PS3.
the 'it's only 5$' more argument only applies to people that have no controllers and are just now buying their first :P to anyone that wants to replace their sixaxis controller collection for the 'final' dualshock3 with rumble they have to pay 54.99 x X(number) of controllers to get themselves sorted.
if you can show me how that = 5$ i'll give you a cookie.

i thought they'd have the decency to announce some sort of exchange program for sixaxis seeing rumble is sooo last gen. but apparently 'last gen' costs more.
54.99USD each.

Btw your old sixaxis will still work just fine you dont "have to buy" it, see no milking here price is just normal aswell:P

Well said, sir. It sucks for people who already have 2 or 4 controllers, and honestly, it sucks that just like this gen set the precedent that games would retail for $59.99, we've gone from $49.99 standard controllers up to $54.99. Yes, the wii controller in total is more (it's $39.99 and $19.99, btw, not $44.99 and $24.99), but not only do you not need both for every game (although for most you do), it's also a different situation, because the wiimote is a much more specialized controller than either the 360 or PS3 controller. The point is, it sucks that Sony couldn't see a way to release the DS3 for $49.99, because even though in the grand scheme of things $5 isn't much, it's not good how prices are out of control this gen.
[QUOTE="The_Crucible"][QUOTE="ogvampire"]i thought that you needed hmdi for 1080p resolution. why would i need that on my 32' 720p?

Because you can get DVD upscaling with HDMI. You can get uncompressed audio with HDMI. HDMI is straight digital, best quality available on any console.
That's why.
it cant upscale it anymore than component cables
i dont have surround sound so therefore no use for uncompressed audio. plus look up some cnet articles about how little the difference between compressed and uncompressed audio is
Oh, I see. because you don't have surround sound, HDMI isn't needed this gen. Let me guess, you have a SDTV too.
Cows whine about the price of XBL, for an entire year, but $55 for a controller with "last gen" features is o.k. Wow!farrell2k
IT's really $5 extra for the last gen features. Its $50 for the six-axis. Whatever. The point is, the six-axis is still there WITH rumble.

To be fair HD isn't a need. HD resolution in no way affect gameplay. Things like Rumble and Motion Controls on the other hand do.
Rumble affects gameplay no more than surround sound or HD images. All get you into the action more. All give you more of an in-game feel. Don't tell me rumble is needed to play, dude. What a twist.

Oh, haven't you heard? Lemmings now claim that if you get RRoD on your HDMIless unit you can send the bad unit in and get one back with HDMI. Of course, zero proof of it. But we'll take their word for it ;)

I take it you haven't played any Baseball games nor Rockstar Table Tennis have you?
"One of the most subtle features, and arguably one of the best little details in Table Tennis, is the use of force feedback. As you charge up your return shot and use the left analog stick to aim it, the controller will start to rumble as your aim gets closer to the edge of the table, giving you a tactile sense for when you need to stop pushing toward the edge.It makes the aiming simultaneously more intuitive and more effective, and it's so simple and so brilliant that it will be disappointing if the next crop of regular tennis video games doesn't implement a similar feature."

Played baseball games on the rumble-less PS3 controller. Never had an issue.
And then you point to Table Tennis?
Tell me you can't play that game without rumble.
And tell me surround sound can't give you that same advantage when playing a hooter and someone sneaks up on you!

It is not about wheter or not you can play the game, rumble adds to the experience. Wouldn't you at least agree that it adds to it. (we can debate later on how much it adds) ;)

Yes, read above. I just don't think its more needed than surround sound or and HD image. All of these things add to the feel of the game.

Well seeing as how you played with the Rumbleless PS3 controller you would realize that its harder to play an opponent in person. Reason being is that when you play online you see your pitch reticle. When you play in person that reticule is hidden so your opponent doesn't know where your aiming. The way rumble factors in is when you move your reticule it vibrates and tells you when you're aiming outside of the strike zone.
You could play the Table Tennis without Rumble but thats not the point I'm making. My point is that Rumble does indeed affect gameplay which I just factually proved. I don't need surround sound realize someone is sneaking up on me. That's what I have headphones for.
Rumble affects Gameplay. HD Resolutions do not. Unless you can give me an example of how they do. Because any game played in HD plays the same exact way it does in SD and vice versa.

Doesn't change the fact that you just generally bash the six-axis controller without speaking in specifics at all. It opens you up for rebuttle.
And though stupid, I hit you on the mummy buying thing for calling me an e-nerd. I apologize, it was lame. My folks bought all of my gaming stuff when i was a kid too.

in COD4, a higher resolution is helpful for perceiving enemies at extreme range. for example, a sniper in a ghillie suit sneaking through grass across the map from you. it's going to be a lot harder to spot that kind of thing (which happens a lot) with only a 480i display.

Show me a review of a mainstream game like Burnout that even discusses the motion controls.
And then read High Velocity Bowling reviews. Motion controls only, no complaints.
Please don't misunderstand me. it isn't perfect, far from it. But it needs more attention so it can get more attention, if you know what I mean. if devs actually start caring about it, they may actually use it right and give us settings to make it work perfectly.

After the success of my first interview with Cory Barlog I was granted a second interview with the legend Phil Harrison. (I had to call him Legend or he said no interview...)
Harrison: Now that the Six Axis has rumble was have now done what the world once thought was impossible. We have found a way to integrate rumble into a motion sensing controller without the rumble interfering with the motion sensing. Other companies should maybe take note as Sony's innovations.
BlackBond: But Nintendo has already done that. They accomplished motion snesing and rumble well before you guys.
Harrison: Everyone knows the long history of the Dual Shock controller and we are just adding on to that long history by adding this revoluionary combationatoin of motion sensing combined with rumble.
BlackBond: "..."
BlackBond: But what about your claims of rumble being last gen and not needed?
Harrison: I never said that?
BlackBond: Yeah you did look right here?
Harrison: Oh that, see what I really meant was that rumble without motion sensing is last gen. That's why the 360 controller is last gen as opposed ot our new gen controller. Implimenting rumble without motion sensing is last gen. We have implemented rumble and motion sensing to create a next gen controller.
BlackBond: So what about all the popele who already own a PS3, have an extra controller, or decide to get a combination of one or the other before the new Six Axis Rumble launches?
Harrison: They didn't complain when we brought out the Dual Shock on PS1 to replace the Standard controller. Really we have a very dedicated fanbase that completely agrees with all of our business decisions with their full support. No matter what we do they can know that they can rest assured that our best interest is their best interest.
Though, He's right in that I don't remember a lot of people freaking out over PS1 controller switches. In fact, until this gen, buying controllers has always been part of the deal. Has been on EVERY console I have owned. From NES on....

RIGHT.
Which means they shouldn't release the controller at all?
It isn't milking. Controller releases, you call it milking, had it never come out you flame the controller for not having rumble.
You fanboys need to make up your minds.
EDIT: I can't believe in the wake of Xbox Live fans try to call releasing a new controller milking. Sony lost a court case and was too stubborn. Now it's resolved and they are releasing a new controller. And it's not like you are being forced into it to enjoy your game.. You can still use your alternate controller..
Xbox Live is a prime example of milking. P2P networking, with the owners of the console having no free way what so ever to play online multiplayer? Now thats milking, and it's making MS millions, for now.
Want another example of milking? This ones old, but Final Fantasy CC required you to have a GBA in order to play with friends. Oh and your friend needed a GBA too.
Releasing a new damn controller isn't milking, esspecially when they couldn't release the controller from the get go. Though thats entirely Sony's fault.
EDIT #2
One thing you can point out though, is that Sony has outright LIED to it's consumers, multiple times. With the whole rumble wasn't possible B.S.. Then BOOM Wii comes out with even more advanced motion controls and oh hey.. it rumbles. Does that make a new controller release for $54.99 milking though? Nope. Esspecially since you have a choice NOT to buy it and still play your games without a message popping up saying "Please insert Dualshock 3 controller."
