To be honest if someone were to show me that shot and ask me to guess which engine it was, I'd say Unreal Engine 3.

It just lacks that CryEngine 2 feel.

AnnoyedDragon

Well, based off that shot, looks like they followed the UE3 route with regard to water. Plus, the textures are flat out awful, and the foliage and lighting nowhere near as expressive. SSAO seems to be absent. I know the game will look better than that, but damn. Real ugly shot.

Come on now, let's not judge the game based of a screengrab from a youtube vid. If we did that then here's your next best looking game on consoles...

Awesome trailer :D. Just Like You Imagined is such an amazing song, and it fit well with the footage.

It it just me or is NIN getting their music in a lot of trailers lately? 300, Terminator, ME2, and now this.

Yep, they need to continue, their music fits in those trailers.

Yeah but the textures in Crysis aren't so hot in general. I'm going to assume you didn't play the first - vanilla texture really weren't all that great. Modded, though?

Now that I've had a chance to have a closer look at some footage I'm positive this is the console version of Crysis 2. No doubt in my mind.

With all the per object motion blur and DoF it's hard to get a good screen, especially since this gameplay is so frantic(and off the hook). In motion this game is looks awesome.

To all the peeps who thought it was PC, you've been Cry-owned.;):P

Agreed, The Fragile has a couple of other "epic" and atmospheric songs on it as well.

Indeed. Most of the enviromental textures are meh though. The game makes up for it with lighting, DoF, and SSAO.

To be blunt, I'm not quite sure how Crytek will be able to pull off the enormous combat environments on the Xbox 360 and PS3. We haven't seen the console versions of Crysis 2 for months; in fact, we've never seen the PS3 version at all. With just a few short months of development time left, I'm growing more and more curious about how Crytek's first foray outside of the PC space will end up.IGN

I can almost guarantee it's console spec PC footage, which would explain the inconsistencies. No way that is PC in all its glory, but there are spots (like AA) that are not consisent with it running on consoles. I'm still convinced that graphically, it's going to dissapoint on consoles, tbh, but if you all want to get excited, don't let me get in the way. :P

They played it on PC.Other previews played it on 360.

And i think this footage is PC...or mix of both because i doubt this can be achieved on consoles.

[QUOTE="Wasdie"]

I agree.

Don't know why PC people have been hating on this so much. They changed the location, boo-hoo. The effects look MUCH tighter than the first games, the enviroment still look pretty big and will definintly have some awesome viewpoints that you can see a massive city in the background, the gunplay looks excellent, all of the suit functions are there and they added more...

The only real difference is that it moved from the jungle to a city. So we trade a linear, set-peice based romp through the jungle for a linear, set-peice based romp through the city.

It amazes me that people still think Crysis is some crazy, open world, tactical shooter.

Wasdie

I agree with what you have said. I don't understand why so many people think Crysis is an open world game. It's a linear game with big open levels.

All they are doing now is focusing on their gameplay more. The big, open levels were really nice but quite unecessary. Half way through the game the levels got really small and even more linear, so I don't know what people are really complaining about. The first 3-4 levels actually were big ones, the rest were small and linear. Warhead was nothing but small and linear.

The problem with big, open levels is pure pacing. They have decided to focus on their great gunplay and awesome use of their cool suit abilities instead of trying to force you into large levels. It's a fundamental design change of the gameplay. They still kept the tactical options and the ability to try things in different ways for each scenario.

I think this game will play a lot better than Crysis 1 as the pacing will be better and the action will be fantastic while still maintaining a lot of different gameplay options.

You are seriously selling short the amount of gameplay variety those "small" levels gave you. If the urban setting makes the game more linear than the first, it will be a downgrade.

If by better game play you mean streamlined in a possibly fixed small scale environment.

I realize what constitutes good game play is subjective, but for some people; it seems to be a interactive movie. Linear corridor environments moving through one scripted action scene to the other between cutscenes (COD).

I think gaming, which is interactive entertainment, can do better than trying to imitate Hollywood.

Crytek is filled with some of the best graphical designers in the world. Making nice textures is the life and passion of some of them, I doubt that is the PC version with those ugly textures. I can't see the Crytek team just blowing off textures like that and not caring that they look like a blurry mess :? There must be a PC setting with improved textures

If it was exclusive and this is what we got? You can be damn sure I'd be criticising it. Based on the material available, it is very different from its predecessor.

That said, if it was PC exclusive, it would likely be a very different game. Remember they are pretty much completely forgetting how the original game ended and starting from scratch, years later. A PC exclusive sequel would have probably continued from the cliffhanger in the 1st game, in which case being based on the same island; and living up to Crysis's environmental and graphical expectations.

Arguably the choice of location for Crysis 2 is down to cities being the perfect environment for streaming, which is what consoles specialize in.

The trick for fans of the original attempting to like this version is to approach it as a stand alone game. As difficult as it is, try to put aside that it is supposed to be a sequel to the first Crysis.

I hardly feel that was an amazing trailer. It looked nice and sems to play well but to me, from a cinematic and perspective stand point, it was just alright.

I suppose we can't completely rule out a Warhead like expansion that covers Nomad, Psycho and Prophet's exploits after the go back to the island.

I cetainly want it but it's probably not happening ;)

 My god pc gamers are never happy. Looked amazing and the gameplay seemed alot bettr and more fluid then the original crysis. Dont see how anyone could say it was consolized.

It that is "consolized," then I'll take it over the boring *** Crysis 1's gameplay.

The gameplay in Crysis is pretty much tied to how good your imagination is. This looks to be the same. So in other words, you're going to play this one exactly the same as you played the first one. From the sounds of it, your imagination is very lacking, so I doubt you'll enjoy Crysis 2 anymore than Crysis.

You would be surprised but its not...no way its 16xMSAA.Look at full screen, jaggies are quite noticeable.

Bus-A-Bus

You get jaggies with 16X MSAA too. I was just playing Black Ops on my PC with 16X MSAA, and while there are no instantly noticeable jaggies, they are definitely still there. That's comparable to it. I'd say it's between 8 and 16X, which is not running on a console. :)

Yeh, 3 years later, but from the sounds of things they aren't going to explain what happened immediately after the end of Crysis.

Him: Crysis was boring. You: Your imagination is lacking. Me: ... what? That's an, erm, interesting assumption, although you do have an underlying point. The larger levels in Crysis 1 did allow for a nice degree of player freedom, despite still being an essentially linear experience. Shame that Crysis 2's levels have been cut down to adhere to the consoles, but it looks like they're trying to make up for it by varying the gameplay, so that's fine with me.

Boooooo. :( Ah well, at least the gameplay is coming together. They seem to have vastly improved the animations too, which is nice.

Seriously, anyone who says Crysis is boring said it was too easy and they basically played it like Call of Duty. Run n gun the whole game on easy mode, which yeah, would make it pretty boring.

Easy? I died so many times if I tried the run n gun mode.
