Played some of the leaked beta. Nothing impressive here.
They don't take your opinion seriously if you played the beta, the Crytek fanboys get really pissy. Now if you use the beta to praise the game, well that's ok :roll:The beta was terrible. Still reviews so far have been praising the game, especially the campaign.
Corridor shooter? Are you seriously gonna try pulling this again? Crysis 2 is EVERY BIT as linear as Killzone 3. And professional reviewers agree. And they say KZ3 looks better. Well sure, when you discount the extremely linear corridor-shooter limitations and 6 hour length (Took me 6hr 23 mins) compared to Crysis' at least slightly more free areas with an actualy 10-12 hour length , I can say crysis had done less sacrifice by going sub-HD.
And this is coming from someone who owns both 360+PS3 and has KZ3.

Except people aren't comparing Crysis 2 to Warhead, they are comparing Crysis 2 with Crysis 1.
Why is it people defending Crysis 2 keep referring to Warhead? I cannot help but think people keep using Warhead; because Warhead was a step in the direction of Crysis 2, making the differences less large than if the original was used for comparison.

Quite frankly I think this outburst of yours is because I inconveniently pointed out your misleading comparison...
Regardless. Judging a sequel by how it compares with its processor is not selfish, it's common sense behaviour. It's not unreasonable or selfish to expect a game to meet the expectations set by the original.

Maybe people have different expecations than you? Maybe people enjoy Crysis 2s tighter story focus than Crysis 1s non existent 1? You act as if the game doesn't keep none of what made the original so great, which it does. When Crysis 1 was released, Crytek got TONS of fanboys raging calling it an optimized piece of **** because they couldn't max it out using a P4 and a 7900GT, so why should Crytek push the graphics envelope if they got that reception? Maybe Crytek want a bigger install base, so they make the game playable on all systems?

What people prefer is irrelevant. There are many different people out there with many different tastes, you cannot cater to them all. No matter what design decisions you make, there will always be someone who prefers something else.
Crysis 2 has expectations placed on it, and those expectations were set by Crysis 1. If it fails to meet those expectations, it has failed as a sequel.

DreamCryotank
Those people were idiots who failed to grasp the basic concept of future proofing.
Regardless, the issue you described has nothing to do with the way Crysis 2 looks and scales today. All of that was determined by console involvement, not what would have been good for PC. Anyone who takes the time to study Crysis 2, will find a variety of console accommodations; that make no sense on PC. Such as using normal maps to detail character faces; instead of placing the detail in the texture, reducing ram usage in favour of higher shader workload. When even entry level gaming PCs have 512mb or more of Vram today.
Sick footage. Haters are in for a surprise because the SP on this game is awesome. Guess everyone shouldn't have judged the whole game based on Skyline, huh?

It's better than "just alright". It's actually great, and I believe reviews will reflect this.
Who cares if it's made to appeal to the console crowd if it's still a great game? I'm sorry you can no longer enjoy the game because it plays well on a gamepad and can run on a console.
Looks good. There are some aspects to it that seen downgrade though, mostly physics and objects. What I say can be seen in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDRxGxOAx0Q&hd=1. I'll miss them phyisics. Also it seens that even Nvidia has removed from it's site info that Crysis 2 would be DX11. I hope for a leak of the PC version so we can see as soon as possible what will be made of the game.

Back on topic. My hype for Crysis 2 went from nothing to pretty damn high. I would rather the game on PS3 but if it looks way better on 360 then its a no brainer.

No, no its not. Unless you like a MW style of presentation with way too over-the-top action that holds your hand the whole way through. Why rely on reviews? Its the user experience that matters. All reviews are; are someone else's written opinion on the game and what it offers/provides. Difference? They get paid for their opinions/reviews and are generally better written. Is it fun? Yes. Is it as fun as Crysis 1 or Warhead? Not even close.
It doesn't matter. It sure as hell does matter when the game is dumbed down for no reason. Never said I wouldn't enjoy it, or don't enjoy it. I love how all Crysis 2 supporters immediately jump to that conclusion about people who say negative things about the game. Its not our fault the game was made with lower standards and didn't aim for the greatness Crysis 1 created.

No, but there was no reason to close off as much of NYC as Crytek did. Of course, it was so consoles could handle the levels. So far theres nothing impressive about the visuals except it isn't as taxing on hardware. Also there was no reason to change the gameplay. It was perfect how it was.
Alternative routes? Rarely any. Sewers at only select parts of the game? YAY!! How about the rest where its just a corridor shooter?
Suit powers? Locked down. No armor mode by default, and the new armor mode is stupid. Drains energy while active and when you take damage. Also the sound it plays when getting hit is incredibly annoying.Speed mode that is sprint only and slower than the original? No thanks. Speed sprint feels like regular sprint. Strength mode? Power jump has lag and again, no control over when you can use it like Speed. Stealth? Even more OP than it was in Crysis 1. Slower draining energy and you actually have some time to shoot with it on.
Interactivity? What point is there now that anything you pick up doesn't do damage to anything? Some of us enjoyed picking up trees and barrels and hurling them towards those evil Koreans. How about those vehicles in Crysis 2? Oh wait...
It doesn't have the freedom or control Crysis 1 had.
City =/= Jungle.. what did you expect?... The core Crysis gameplay is still there.
Alternative routes and vantage points. Check. (smaller scale)

Unless you played a version of Crysis where you can fly and borrow through mountains, I really can't seem to grasp how Crysis 2 has been crippled.
DreamCryotank
The environments are much smaller scale and they lack the same interactivity, the suit powers have been simplified, lean has been taken out of the players control. Also never mind that it has essentially been designed for consoles, which isn't good when you are a PC gamer (the original audience). The number of tweaks I had to apply to the multiplayer shortcut. Removing the mouse smoothing, increasing the field of view, taking away the blur effects designed to hide imperfections. Even with everything I have done, the controls are just less responsive with a mouse than the original.
The best the game can be called is a console game trying to imitate Crysis 1, not a sequel that does the original justice.

I was stating against blind graphical arguments that Killzone 3 is visually stunning, when it has sacrificed so much for it, whereas Crysis actually manages much more freedom within its gameplay and has only sacrificed resolution and 2% screen tearing while still being able to produce some of the best visuals on 6 year old hardware. Comparatively therefore, Crysis 2 wins.
Not the best quality around, but from what I'm getting the character models are definitely behind the first Crysis--I was at least expecting that to stay the same. Then again, it's the 360 version.
Boring arguments about graphic details out of the way, I think it looks great. I can understand the concerns of the fans(hell I'm one of them) but I'm still going to give Crytek the the benefit of the doubt. The game looks like a very solid package so far, and I definitely think a lot of people are jumping the gun on this. Perhaps people shouldn't expect a Crysis 1 out of this, but a different kind of package, much like Warhead.
No, no its not. Unless you like a MW style of presentation with way too over-the-top action that holds your hand the whole way through. Why rely on reviews? Its the user experience that matters. Why are the Crysis 2 haters so full of rage? You say user experience is all that matters, but here we have 2 drastically different opinions. You say it's just alright, and I believe it's great.

I agree, but not technically. Lighting and SSAO is superior though, but Crysis 1 has ridiculous amount of foilage and pushes upwards to 3 million polygons, while Crysis 2 peaks at 1.7 million polygons.

While it seems like everyone wins, in reality everyone suffers and gets a worse game for it. Im guessing this will be the case with The Witcher 2 as well?
Ya know, simplified doesnt always mean worse. Alot of Crysis 1 was clunky from a flow perspective. Also, Im not sure why everyone insists Crysis 1 was such a "deep" game. Yes you had more than one way to kill people. You werent funneled down a corridor. But at the end of the day, there was no incentive to do anything but blast away when your handed multiple machine guns, rockets and grenades. And yes I played Crysis.

Except of course it's been downgraded to run on consoles, so it doesn't really say anything about their ability to run the game the "does it run Crysis?" joke was made for.
The Wii could run Crysis, if it was downgraded to run on the Wii's hardware. It wouldn't really be ownage against the people who said it could never run on the Wii, because what "it" is has been changed dramatically.
