So basically your saying that elitist PC gamers are butthurt that more people get to play the sequel. Thanks for clearing it up.

h575309

By that rational, the Wii could have been the lowest target hardware for this game; and they simply scaled it up for 360/PS3 and PC. And who would we be to complain about that? How dare we make arguments that would restrict availability on an entire platform.

For those doubting that this is 360 footage, here you go again. The first 12 minutes of Crysis 2 on the 360. It is in German, but as you can plainly see, the quality is just the same. This is the 360 version.

Not at all. If that were true, there'd be more than one person hating on The Witcher 2 here.

We're pissed it was dumbed down/consolized to appeal to the CoD-loving market who couldn't find the light at the end ofa dark tunnel.

so do windows live games if you hook up a controller. also, the achievement effect is very easy to add in. once saw someone put the seriously 2.0 effect in the cutscene of dom killing maria in geow 2 and tons of people believed it. but i will agree that this is probably the 360 version. crytek as usual, didn't use the ps3 hardware as well as we know they could have and that isn't impressive if it is PC footage.

Look at it from Cryteks perspective. Launch on three platforms, with only a slight decrease in visuals, or launch a similar product, that eliminates most of the PC fanbase anyway. Why in gods name would you choose the first option? This is a business after all. Theyre not doing this for free for gods sakes.

Because I never see you say anything NICE. Always negative. Never praise Crytek for what they accomplished on consoles. Always ME ME ME ME ME.

h575309

People are pissed the game is downgraded. This is almost like borderline communism  (don't take this too seriously) but before you had one amazing game that you had to pay for a beastly rig to play and therefore very few people really got Crysis in all its glory. It was an exclusive group and now they downgrade the game for "the greater good" and everyone with a current gen console and decent PC can play the game in its downgraded format.

While it seems like everyone wins, in reality everyone suffers and gets a worse game for it. PC gamers know it because they originally got one of the best fps games of all time and now they're playing a downgraded turd. Console gamers don't know what they're missing with Crysis so they'll praise Crysis 2 for what it is.

So basically your saying that elitist PC gamers are butthurt that more people get to play the sequel. Thanks for clearing it up.

No but we PC gamers who shelled out big money for a nice rig get to play a much downgraded sequel just so more people can play the game rather than consolers doing whats necessary to get a nice PC. You aren't very good at reading comprehension are you?

Seriously more people being able to play a worse game isn't really anything to be happy about. Consolers just don't know how much worse it is because they didnt play the original so they'll accept C2 for what it is.

Nope, people just couldn't believe how good Crysis 2 looked on 360. If it was native Games for Window it would always have 360 functions for PC from the start, but the PC demo, leaked beta and latest videos is more proof of no 360 buttons, plus it's not even on the PC cover.

"Can't take out the Ebola virus with an M-16." Since when was the '16 in Crysis? The SCAR (which is actually an XM8 clone in Crysis rather than the actual SCAR) is the standard service rifle in the Crysis timeline.

*end weapon nerd rage*

Looks good, and the achievement made me lol. Still, probably not getting this any time soon.

It is much downgraded....otherwise you're saying consoles are capable of running a game as advanced as Crysis. Either its downgraded or somehow consoles magically got more than 256mb of ram and updated video cards. I'm pissed the sequel 3 and a half years later isn't an improvement at all. Sequels are supposed to advance things. Crysis 2 took a step backwards.

Looks great, but not better than KZ3 at all...I loved the game and it took me about 8 hours on hard difficulty. And this is from someone who owns 360+PS3 and has KZ3. Where does that leave you now? With your finger in your mouth sitting on a curb.

Back on topic. My hype for Crysis 2 went from nothing to pretty damn high. I would rather the game on PS3 but if it looks way better on 360 then its a no brainer.

hip-fire

I was stating against blind graphical arguments that Killzone 3 is visually stunning, when it has sacrificed so much for it, whereas Crysis actually manages much more freedom within its gameplay and has only sacrificed resolution and 2% screen tearing while still being able to produce some of the best visuals on 6 year old hardware. Comparatively therefore, Crysis 2 wins.

Crysis 2 bigger Scale? How bout Killzone 3's..............

-24 players max,

-MP maps that can fit 5 puny Crysis 2 maps,

-0 screen tearing,

-30fps, 720p HD

-without use of over the top Motion Blur to hide poor textures and cover ugly framerate

Yet no vehicles, only mechs and only 3 modes?

And yes on the topic of singleplayer, crysis 2 is on a large scale

The game does look great, I'm not denying that. I'd say as a pc game theres maybe 5 games that look better but being said, when you shell out a bunch of money years ago to play Crysis in all its glory, and then 3 and a half years later the sequel is coming and you're expecting to take the next big leap in gaming technology and then come to find out the game is worse on a technology level than its predecessor, it tends to piss people off... I don't understand how you dont see that. Crysis 2 was going to be my reason to get a GTX 580 and now I'm holding off til Battlefield 3.

Mechs are vehicles. 3 modes have nothing to do with scale. So far, nothing seen in Crysis 2 campaign is as huge as the Mawlr in KZ3

h575309

Except the comment were you said PC elitists wasn't making that claim. It was simply stating people were angry at the downgrades, and that console gamers wouldn't recognise downgrades took place; because Crysis 1 was a PC only game. The entirety of their experience with the Crysis name is entirely restricted to Crysis 2, so they wouldn't be expected to relate with PC gamers criticising the game for failing to meet the originals expectations.

And I wouldnt believe anyone that didnt say this game looked great.

h575309

I don't think anyone is saying this game looks bad (though I dislike blur), they're mostly saying it looks bad when compared to X. X being console gamers saying MY version looks better than your version, PC gamers saying Crysis 2 looks worse than Crysis 1, or PS3 gamers claiming it looks worse than Killzone.

If anyone is outright saying the game looks terrible, they're a minority,

And they say KZ3 looks better. Well sure, when you discount the extremely linear corridor-shooter limitations and 6 hour length (Took me 6hr 23 mins) compared to Crysis' at least slightly more free areas with an actualy 10-12 hour length , I can say crysis had done less sacrifice by going sub-HD.

And this is coming from someone who owns both 360+PS3 and has KZ3.

nervmeister
Corridor shooter? Are you seriously gonna try pulling this again? Crysis 2 is EVERY BIT as linear as Killzone 3. And professional reviewers agree.

wat are you talking about? look at the video...he's running all over the place. in KZ3 there's only straight ahead n don't look back, only one way to go FORWARD lol. the guy in the video even got lost trying to decide which way to go lol. w

That intro got me plenty excited. Here's hoping there's an open-ended epic waiting for us.

LucidJubilation

Corridor shooter? Are you seriously gonna try pulling this again? Crysis 2 is EVERY BIT as linear as Killzone 3. And professional reviewers agree.

wat are you talking about? look at the video...he's running all over the place. in KZ3 there's only straight ahead n don't look back, only one way to go FORWARD lol. the guy in the video even got lost trying to decide which way to go lol. w

The intro video was a run through a corridor... :|

I don't know how long Crysis 2 will be or how closely it will resemble the original's open nature, but that video was literally likea run through a corridor. :|

That's only the intro(not even a level) and the 1st video.

Watch the 2nd video, it's more open.

this, that wasnt even really gameplay, just the intro, which was more like an interactive cutscene.

Whoops, that's my bad. Sorry LucidJubilation. :P

I watched the intro and completely forgot the second link. :P

But yeah, that was actually a pretty open battle. You just don't see that in most shooters, so from what has been shown it looks like Crysis 2 should follow in the open-ended nature of the game. Looks like my fears of it being a more linear game are being washed away. Now to wait for official reviews and user feedback and we'll know for sure! :D

It looks like it could have less freedom than the first. There were obvious barriers in that video that you just didn't see in the first Crysis and I think the worth of the game will be determined if I can still play it however I choose to (i.e. whether I choose to play the game as a stealth instead of FPS game). But it looked pretty good.

Developers have two choices when it comes to cross platform development.

To design for PC and port to consoles, or to design for consoles and port to PC.

Crytek chose the latter. And as a PC developer, they deserve the negative response for that. It isn't just that they went cross platform, Valve went cross platform, it is because they gave us a console port; with PC specific design being an afterthought.

blues35301

Im calling them elitist because they think theyre smarter than people that play consoles. And I wouldnt believe anyone that didnt say this game looked great.

Isn't that just your fault for hyping it up like that? Plus nobody has seen the DX11 version of it yet, and do you really think it's gonna look bad?

It's amazing what devs can accomplish with this ancient hardware. Now I know why Crysis 2 looks like ass on PC. Most of Crytek's time probably went into optimizing the console versions. It's pretty sad that they turned their back on their fans though.

I still think Rage will look better in all its 60fps glory, although I have to see it to believe it.

The reason why you can't see much of a difference between Crysis 2 on PC and the consoles?... The engine and game were made for console with a PC you just get some small DX11 improvements and choice in resolution and hopefully AA and AF. This game looks great... its just not the "Crysis" people were waiting for.

thanks. i didnt feel like going through the effort of finding all the vids posted in this thread to give to him. aw screw it, here you go:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzYMRxREVP4

the Crysis 2 footage comes in at around the 2:35 mark. i've never seen a fps with this open of a level before and looks so good doing(on consoles). not even Reach. just look at how many ways he attacked the game, on the ground...rooftops...etc. everywhere was an option...its pretty amazing.

No Crytek hyped it up like that, telling people it was going to be the best looking game ever and it would blow people away. Plus you expect it being the sequel to Crysis.

Actually I was very skeptical from the beginning as soon as I heard it was multiplat. I reminded people of their whole "an 8800gts can run the game maxed" fiasco with the first game and everyon just branded me a hater and a troll. Funny I'm a troll considering I'm one of the people who consider Crysis to literally be the very best FPS ever made.

Yeah I considered my self cautiously optimistic. I wanted them to prove me wrong and blow us away and I thought I would be, Then as much that has come out the past few months, the writing is on the wall. Crytek sold out and Crysis is a shadow of its former glory.

The other thing that had me leary was Warhead's "better looking and better running" when really they just downgraded the draw distance massively as well as the textures and then made the lighting a little better.

Yea on a very un-demanding early part of the game. I played Crysis first time through with an 8800gt and was getting fps in the teens in the heavier battles and ice levels.
