That's kinda funny since the matter of Crysis 2 was brought up in that "Silly arguments and claims" thread from last night.
Meh, I'm a Crysis lover so bring the big C!
He also said that developers won't start putting more effort into PC until it starts pulling sales numbers close to what the consoles give them.6matt6
That's also sad/funny because thwat won't happen till we see a significantly increased effort from devs.
Not that you could ever compare sales between consoles and PCs since there's quite a difference in production costs profit per unit sold.
How? Let everyone make PC games if they are so awesome in every way?locopathoDevelopers are stupid and buying into the hype console games sell better LOL.
[QUOTE="6matt6"]He also said that developers won't start putting more effort into PC until it starts pulling sales numbers close to what the consoles give them.doom1marineconsole game's selling better is bs dude, more people have pc's. back in the day people didnt need to buy graphics cards to play pc games, cpu/software driven. stuff need's to switch back to that. Terrible argument. You simply need the hardware to run the software,"stuff can't switch back to that"
He's stating the obvious, whether consolities want to believe it or not. Even with general "dumbing down", alot of it happens simply because the consoles can't handle the game the way the developers want it, then it's the obvious audience and what sells to that audience (in general I'm not saying all are like this).
Crytek boss Cervat Yerli has claimed that developers' focus on PS3 and 360 is holding back game quality on PC - a format he believes is already "a generation ahead" of modern day consoles. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=277729doom1marinewhy is this guy stating the obvious?.... why ? why would he say something like this?

And the cycle continues....Edit: Oh and yeah it's too obvious and he shouldn't even have said that but i guess some fanboys still hold dear that their console is just as good(graphics) as a PC so i guess he had a point of saying it.
Naturally. The console market has grown and become an important and deciding factor for a lot of devs, enough to warrant significant development resources from them. It stands to reason that releasing multiplat games etc for PC and consoles could possibly limit the PC version in some way, assuming the dev was willing to put in the effort were it a PC exclusive.
[QUOTE="doom1marine"][QUOTE="locopatho"]How? Let everyone make PC games if they are so awesome in every way?locopathoDevelopers are stupid and buying into the hype console games sell better LOL. Doubt its just hype if so many are doing it. old pc games, didnt require someone to buy video card, like today's pc games do.

Of course he did.
Anyway, I don't think it's that bad per se.
Something like AC2 actually does have headroom to take advantage of the PC.
Now if only Ubisoft had spent a little time giving us access to some ini settings. That was'nt as much of a matter of consoles holding anything back as us being deliberately kept out.
I see Crytek are being just as deluded as ever.
These are the people that expected Halo 3 sales from Crysis. A new IP, built to utilize hardware that didn't even exist.
You are rarely going to get console sales on PC, consoles are a much broader audiences than PC. Why would I want PC to be as broad a audience as consoles? That means streamlining and accessibility accommodation for more casual audiences.

They sell better indeed, however considering DD is where PC games are selling at, sale to sale profit is in favour of the PC.
pc games sales and development didnt decline untill dev's started to require pc gamers to purchase a graphics card just to play a game. Dev's need to support software cpu driven mode in their pc games no video card needed. They're cutting off market from themselves requiring you to buy a video card just to play a game.doom1marine
You need to start backing some of your information up with links. I'm not saying that it's not believable, but proof is required.
To some extent. But the truth is that even without consoles most devs would target the lower end of the spectrum to maximise their audience. Out of the hundreds of PC exclusives we've seen this gen only a handful really push the envelope in terms of graphics, and you can't really put the blame for that on consoles.ManicAce
This to, which is why blizzard is so successful.
Sorry but back in the days you needed to have a powerful cpu to play doom and quake, most people didn't have it. Software render is completely unacceptable in this day and age. Nobody wants to go back to those uglies and slow render method. I remember the feeling of outcast being ruined by this, in fact even if i had a decent computer i couldn't max outcast as it didn't take advantage of my 3dfx and only used the cpu.
After how many people have pirated their games I am surprized they even still make pc games.

Considering it's rather difficult to associate piracy with lost sales, due to there being no guarantee that a pirate would buy the game if it weren't easily available for free, I find your statement rather asinine.
Obviously the platform is viable, considering it has had the most dev support this generation.
He is probably right in that console technology is holding multiplats back in the PC.
The biggest thing holding PC games back are the majority of PC gamers themselves though. Devs like Blizzard or EA with the KOTOR MMO, Sims and Spore aren't targeting the extremely high end PC gamer. They are targeting the mass PC market and thus are lowering the specs needed to run these huge PC games.

i love how people don't use this same reasoning for used games on this board...
obviously there's no guarantee that a person would buy a game if it weren't easily available for cheap used. yet ignorant posters on this site try to compare piracy with the rental and used game industry.
sorry for the rant...

:P No problem.
Whilst obviously the used game industry is an issue, I personally couldn't compare it to piracy due to one being legal and one not. From a finance perspective, it obviously impacts the dev, but it certainly is no guarantee that if a game wasn't available used, that an individual would buy the game new. Unless the prices were comparable for new and used (such as with Gamestop/EBGames).
I guess he is holding his own company back by developing for ps3 and 360. He must feel real stupid.

Or he simply realised that there aren't enough high end PC gamers to support the games he truly want to develop. It's either being willing to compromise or go out of business.

That has always bugged me. When you buy a game you OWN it. It's your game and you can choose to sell it to whoever you wish after as its yours. However if you were to make tons of copies of the game and sell those thats illegal since you only brought 1 license for that game. Not the same at all.Casual audiences are bigger than hardcore audiences.I see Crytek are being just as deluded as ever.

They can disagee all they want but he is still right.
Unless they want to change their games from "product" to "lease" in which case EA will have to stop with every bad tactics they currently do now or they will be sued to hell and back.
