WOW...It took this David fella to tell the world that renting and used games takes away from new sales? Our country really that stupid or what?

Devs need to STFU about this, imo. Renting and buying used is perfectly within the rights of gamers. Devs/publishers need to get over it. It's not like this is a new thing.
DarkLink77
thank you. i couldn't agree more. may be if these devs/publishers spent less time b----ing and more time making games worth their price people would hesitate paying for it. let's not forget it's these same douchebags that fel that every game "deserves" a limited/collectors/special edition just so that they could charge between $70 to $150 per copy. f'n ripoff.

did you not notice the "tea parties" or sarah palin or the assheaded conservatives? yeah, this country if full of morons. david jaffe is just showing off his new membership card.
This. devs are only bring it on themselves. If your gonna overcharge for short games expect low salesdear devs please stop making 6 hour (gameplay wise) games that could be completed in one overnight rental madworld, re5, re: uc, re: dc, Assassin's creed

[QUOTE="InsaneBasura"]Why is it that this is the one industry where this is such a big problem? DarkLink77And why now? It's been going on for years, but now developers/publishers have gotten paranoid about it. Cost more to make a game. At least $20 million to develop for 360/Ps3 for a full pledge game, back in the 90s it was barely a million, PSX was around $500k.
Yes they do but i don't care.
I just bought BioShock 2 used today and rented Skate 2 (they were out of Skate 3). I'm not going to dish out $60 for every game that i want to play.
Yeah, I weep for all of those lost profits.
Seriously, who gives a flying ****? If a few corporations eat it, I'll still be playing games. Independent game development is alive and well, and gaming is well established as an entertainment medium; it isn't going to crash and burn tomorrow, or dissappear, or anything.
I couldn't care less about how well EA, and Activision, and Ubisoft are doing; screw them, and screw the mindset that says they deserve even a modicum of our sympathy.
Stop releasing piss quality games with no replayability for $60. Stop burning your customers with draconian anti-piracy measures. Stop whining about rentals and used games as if you actually think anyone gives a **** about your quarterly reports.
Adapt, fight for the consumer's money, and give them reasons to make a full purchase, or shut the hell up.

This. For the love of all that is good and holy, this.

We've been able to buy used games for a VERY long time. WHy is it a problem now??? Oh wait.. its NOT. They are just going to make it one so that they can somehow manage to ban it.
My limited salary is also 'taking away' from their sales.
When are they going to address my limited salary?
not really, there is very little gaurantee that people will actually switch to DD, digital downloads only make up 15% of the market, if you went digital download only now it would destroy the industry, most people still don't have a stable internet connection, not to mention people like me and everyone i know will stop buying games if they go DD, we are not sheep you know, just because the industry sets the standard is no guarantee that we will follow it, or that we can follow it, the PSP go was DD only, and that was a disaster.Well, hopefully he hops on board the Digital-Download-Only train.
I mean I don't really get why these devs complain about it when they have the power to change the way the industry does business.

And why now? It's been going on for years, but now developers/publishers have gotten paranoid about it. Gaming is more popular, so more people do it now. That's my guess. Also creating games is a lot more expensive yet game prices haven't risen. this, it's up to the devs though to make the next move, not just **** at the used game market. they can do it two ways 1. lower development cost, if that means sacrificing something then fine 2. screw over the used market, make one time registrations or activations.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"][QUOTE="InsaneBasura"]Why is it that this is the one industry where this is such a big problem? this kind of stuff makes me angry. If developers don't want consumers to buy used games or rent new ones then make better games. Normally if i rent a game and really enjoy it i'll buy it but if the game is really short and easy i'll rent it and be done with it.
well what the hell they expect? not everyone has well paying jobs where they can afford every $60 game that comes out.LP4EVA2005I can usually only afford 4-5 games a year but I buy them new only because I don't know who had that game before me it could've been a child because one time I rented a Dreamcast game and the disc was covered in Chocolate. That's the main reason I don't buy used.

I don't understand this sentiment. If you buy used, you look at the game disc before you walk out of the store. Period. If you don't, then it's pretty much your fault for getting home with a crap disc.
And if you're buying used online... well, don't buy from non-retailers.

Well that was a Rental. But I also don't like when their is no manual or the manual is in bad condition.yea I can see why "IMO" works perfectly for you.... because used games benefit you, not the developers, the same as piracy... only your profiting off yours ;)Devs need to STFU about this, imo. What a load of crap... its purely because people want something for cheaper, nothing to do with the quality of the games.Since there is such a large market for used games, that means the devs and publishers are doing something wrong. It's obvious that there are a lot of gamers who feel that the final product of what they are making simply isn't worth what they think it is.
Bigboi500
God these game industry people are the worst, they wanna make us feel guilty for everything, like we are evil for trying out a game first before we wanna buy it.. Seriously stfu
What a load of crap... its purely because people want something for cheaper, nothing to do with the quality of the games.Birdy09If the games offered enough reason to be kept, there wouldn;t be an used market.
yea I can see why "IMO" works perfectly for you.... because used games benefit you, not the developers, the same as piracy... only your profiting off yours ;)Birdy09Not really. For a used game to be sold, it must have been bought new in the first place. Meaning the developer already benefitted from it.
[QUOTE="Bigboi500"]What a load of crap... its purely because people want something for cheaper, nothing to do with the quality of the games. Pretty much this. Odd how the justification of buying a game used is the same as pirates' excuse for stealing the games. Not saying they're the same ethically, but if the game isn't what you feel it's worth then how about you rent it instead of buying it? If you buy it used or new, you obviously feel the game has worth to even own it.Since there is such a large market for used games, that means the devs and publishers are doing something wrong. If you can get a game for less legally, there's absolute no reason not to do it.

1) ... so your saying in order to get thier full retail price from us the consumer... is to offer a game with enough re playability to last forever? ALOT of people dont play games through again regaurdless of how much they enjoyed it... hell some of my favourite SP and MP games have been shelved for years... or sold off or just forgottent, "collectors" that take pride in that stuff are a very few minority.... Well I guess i should of been able to pay £10 instead of £45 for Halo 3 since its 6 hour SP and boring online (to me) wasnt worth that price in my opinion? Its just a double standard as usual.... The reason the games are not kept is called money........ when theres an oppurtunity to recover lost money any reasonable consumor will do so at the expense of anyone else.... theres no working around this truth.... same applies to piracy.. "games not good enough to buy" is like saying "Ok I dont like [food name here] but il steal it and eat it anyway, because I want it...."
2) ... what do you mean "not really" ... YES REALLY, the very fact that the person selling the game is denying the developers that £40 ... and giving some random shop that £35 ... while only gaining £10-15..... 1 used game could go in circulation 10+ times.... meaning 10 less sales were made for the developer. And why? because the consumor thinks it should be allowed to buy a game for £40 and earn £35 of that back... hypocrisy....

1) No, I did not said that. I said that it's the developer's problem to care for the customer, not the other way around. If they want people to get their games new/not sell them, they have to make it worth it, not the other around.
2) The dev already got their share of the$60 when the game was bought brand new. So they alredy benefited for the sale of that copy. What people do with that copy after that does not change that the dev already benefited from it.
Gee, the devs and publishers have finally found themselves a new scapegoat it seems. I'm not even gonna go and give arguments as to why they need to shove it, as I did countless times in the previous threads about this.
Okay, one example. When I buy a used game for current-gen games (which is not very commonly), it's usually because I've heard mixed stories on the game's quality, and I want to try it out being sure I'm not wasting too much money. On one occasion, I bought The Conduit Special Edition for a few bucks (used). Normally, I wouldn't have bought the game as I had been told it wasn't worth the trouble, but after playing it, I saw the game's enormous potential, and decided right away to buy Conduit 2 on the release date. Effects like this might seem insignificant, but they do exist, and their influence is never taken into account because devs and publisher can't seem to use it in their quest to harvest as much money as possible.
In the end, I'm being a bit sick of continually being treated as some sort of criminal by industry hotshots while more of my money has been pumped into that same industry over the years than I care to remember. As said, they can just shove it.
hmm a lot of people's reasons for buying used games is the same reasons people have for piracy... perhaps to devs they're not that different?
Umm, well if they want us to buy more games new, stop making so many of them!
Seriously, want a shooter? you have Call of Duty (1,2,3,4, WaW, MW2, more coming) Halo 3, ODST, Reach coming soon, Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone 2, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Crysis 2 coming soon, Medal Of Honor, Battlefield BC1 and 2 (and 1943, 2, etc).
Hack n Slash: God of War 1, 2, 3, COO, Ghost of Sparta (coming soon), Bayonetta, Darksiders, Dante's inferno, Etc.
RPG: Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening (and another expansion soon, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Mass Effect 1 and 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Fallout 3, Torchlight, Diablo 3 (coming someday), Demon's Souls (Is demon a person? he has to be, because otherwise that's just bad grammar, because that title is saying that they are somebody named Demon and those are his souls, now if they were trying to be plural as in many demons having souls, the proper title would be Demons' Souls if I am understanding this correctly.)
Racing: Dirt 1 and 2, Grid, Forza 2 and 3, Project Gotham Racing 4, Need for Speed Shift, Blur, Split Second, Mario Kart, Modnation Racers, Gran Turismo 5 (Coming Someday), etc.
Action/Adventure: Assasin's Creed I, II and Brotherhood, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Just Cause 2, Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker, Batman Arkham Asylum, Infamous, Uncharted 1 and 2, Alan Wake, Brutal Legend, Etc.
Ok So you expect us to dish out $60 for all of these? and I even gave up listing any more genres and games within those genres, Not to mention smaller titles, lower scores, etc. We're gonna buy our favorites new, and rent/buy used the rest. And pirates are gonna pirate.
Edit: Let's not forget all the Sequels, Prequels, spin offs, New IPs, and of course buying old gems.
[QUOTE="Bigboi500"]What a load of crap... its purely because people want something for cheaper, nothing to do with the quality of the games.Oh, so they can do no wrong, and I'm just supposed to blindly hand over my $60 and love what I get huh?Since there is such a large market for used games, that means the devs and publishers are doing something wrong.
