Lol.... -edit- Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick. And no, Halo hasn't effected PC gaming in anyway shape or form. PC FPS are still as brutal as ever. Try Stalker or Arma 2 for example. :)

I think Halo was the game that really showed that I could get the kind of games I like on a console and didn't need a PC anymore, but clearly not everyone's with me on that.

Sure! Lets blame one game for something that is the responsibility of the developer, Deus EX wasnt dumbed down because of Halo, nor was it put on the Xbox because of Halo, it was all the choice of the developers

I guess you're one of them who "aren't with him on that". You could just say that instead of flaming other posters.Halo did what WoW has done to MMOs... found a nice little area to make the player feel comfortable and rewarded for simple mechanics. Both fun games, but competitivly I would fall asleep even thinking about it let alone watching their pathetic MLG tournements, watching a Halo tournments is the most boring competitive gaming experiance I have ever seen, closly followed by WoW and Gears of War.
Its a shame, doesnt have to be this way, you think bungie would actually add in a "campaign" style Multiplayer mode like Wolf: Enemy Territory has, or Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Academy.... objective way points of attack and defend relying on mulitiple classes with some freedom.
However all FPS (console ones at least) except TF2(which is practically PC) are following this crap forumlar of adding loads of mini-game modes onto copy pasted deathmatch maps, its absolute crap. Domination? hell even Bad Company 2's mission system is abit bland, but i blame that heavily on the dumbing down of classes. (Thanks CoD4 ) classes use to mean more than weapon load outs.... its gone **** tbh.

Played Killzone 2 yet? It has an identical class system like TF2 without feeling like a clone.
2 games compared to the countless games being made in the late 90's and early 2000s for that genre.. just like wow has killed mmos... ID, Epic, obsidian, bioware, etc etc... all have sold out to consoles. RPGs dedicated to the pc are hardly made any more. The witcher is the last full on big budget pc only rpg.. and meanwhile console rpgs made by a previous master at rpgs are being turned into shooters. Now xbox shooter fans can say they love rpgs, yet when a real rpg comes out they will complain because a head shot doesn't mean instant death and there are actual math and numbers based on stats. i have said it for years now. Xbox has been a major blow to pc gaming... some of you don't think so, but reallity says it is. If you were a pc gamer in the 90's and early 2000s you would see how much less exclusive content is being made. exclusive pc rpgs == almost dead :( , FPS exclusive to pc == dead. Flight sim == dead, Turn Based Strat == almost dead :( Besides a few eastern european devs and firaxis(cd projeckt red, games workshop, pyranna bytes) there is really no devs pushing pc exclusives... and IT PISSES ME OFF!!! I wouldn't own a ps3 now if it weren't true. i got through all of last gen without a console. this gen i would be missing out as not as many pc games in the genres i like are being made. if i want pc style rpgs, i have to play indie cprgs like: Avernum, Geneforge and Eschalon (which are awesome with their oldschool style) , but thats not like it used to be. if you still think pc gaming is the same as it was before the 360, then you are in denial of it.. publishers are greedy!!!!!!Lol.... -edit- Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick. Yea, Killzone 2's however doesnt demand certain classes for objectives, just cooler ways of killing/pushing targets, which fairplay they did do better than the competition, but its not quite what I mean. Bullet Lag unfortunatly killed my interest (yes even with latest patch" I cant deal with a game where your targets die 2-3 seconds after you pummel them... or you die 3 seconds later than the bullets hit you. hope they fix this in KZ3 :P[QUOTE="WhenCicadasCry"]2 games compared to the countless games being made in the late 90's and early 2000s for that genre.. just like wow has killed mmos... ..but my point was that big league devs have almost all except a few eastern europe devs abandoned pc for the consoles. Midnightshade29Your wording here is too suggestive. Abandoned PC? No. They just went multiplat. Thanks to the growing demand on developers in terms of investment when it comes to making these high quality titles they need to go multiplat. The same could be said about console developers though. There rarely is a genuine third party exclusive anymore. Most games are going multiplat. This is not a phenomenon unique to the PC.

The simple fact that you ditched the PC for consoles. Halo 1 on legendary was brutally difficult, but games that followed pretty much hold you by the hand.
I have to say yes, without a doubt. The FPS genre and PC gaming were constantly evolving and becoming more complex. Then Halo came along and dumbed it down for consoles, it became a huge success to many who never played a good PC FPS before Halo. Halo is an easy to get into and an easy to master FPS, it takes no skill and there's nothing deep about this game, people like it because it gives them comfort. PC gaming went into a halt now, many great PC gaming franchises were dumb downed for the Xbox. Such as Deus Ex for example, Invisible War could have been a great game if it wasn't made for the Xbox. Same goes for the Call of Duty with COD4 and MW2. It even dumb downed great console FPS franchise, Turok became a generic space marine shooter like Halo due to Halo's popularity. Halo killed PC gaming and a lot of it's great franchises, Halo dumb downed the genre for the MTV generation of audience.foagoa
Actualy I think that Halo led to ressurgence of pcgaming. PCgaming was heading towards bland mainstream planes. FPSes became so popular they were causing mass extinction of other genres (aside from RTSes of course, but RTS is the main pc genre, far more than FPSes ever were). Halo caused a shift, the biggest devs on pc started to move to consoles and this gave smaller pc devs a room to breath. Suddely the biggst predator moved to another hunting fields. This lead to ressurgence of typicaly pc'ish genres that dominated the platform in late 80s/early 90s. Now, I did think it sucks that the dumbind down of FPS genre was the price of that, but it was a price I gladly paid
It even dumb downed great console FPS franchise, Turok became a generic space marine shooter like Halo due to Halo's popularity.foagoa
What on earth are you talking about? The decline of the Turok series started long before Halo was even announced.
Other than that I'd just like to say that the PC is still the ultimate platform for creative, original and fun shooters. You just need to open your eyes instead of focusing on a few franchises that were never that complex to begin with.

No, seriously, Halo never had quick-regenerating health like CoD, or Killzone...... Ever.
Halo:CE had health which had to be regenerated with a health pack.
Halo 2 and 3 has health which regenerates slowly, but can't be seen. This is why sometimes Melee's at the same time would result in one person winning.
Halo 3:ODST, and Halo:Reach both have health packs.
