Reasons why Digital Disribution Wins

-Doesn't take up space

-No need for a loud disk drive

-All of your games are neatly stored

-No need for used/new games

-We can drive those nazi's Gamestop out of buisness or at least force them to change their evil nazi esque ways

However lets be fair and also count the benefits of physical storage.

Reasons why A physical game CD/Cartridge wins

-Games will become scratched and dirty over time eventually becoming good for nothing more than coasters.

-Former freinds can borrow them and never give them back!

-Stickers, plastic wrap and other useless things are awesome!

-Do you enjoy paying more for what a publisher calls a "collector's edition"? That consists of nothing more than the regular game and a wortheless art book/plastic figurine? Then physical formats are for you!

-Enjoy a increasingly large and unmangable libary of game cases that will eventuall topple and kill you!

-Can be fashioned into a shuriken for those pesky suprise ninja attacks

I agree at some point the Digital Distribution will become far better than a disk.

At some point. (Used this before)

Maybe in the year 3000 ?

-Can't be sold later down the road if it sucks, which is often the case.

-DRM is lame. We know when things go 100% digital, that the companies are gonna slap the cuffs on us.

-Steam has got it right, but I still buy the boxed product if it's available. Steam didn't get it right in the beginning.

-Digital Distribution shouldn't be as costly as a retail product, or even more in some cases. That's ridiculous. Steam has had some overpriced releases, but luckily, they balance it out with sales.

I'll take retail. And retail keeps more jobs, too.

I also disagree. I understand the motivation behind it, its just that I prefer having a physical copy in my possession. I prefer tangible things to virtual things, which when you get right down to it, DLC and DD are nothing more than that.

DD is garbage.

1. Taking up space isn't a problem. It's not like discs and game cases are anything big. You put them in a nice collection and it looks great.

2. Not all Disc Drives are loud, my PS3's isn't nor my computers.

3. My games will be neatly stored whether it is DD or not.

4. I want used/new games, used games are cheaper and better to buy if your playing an older game that you don't want to spend a whole lot of money on.

5. Meh, Gamestop never screwed me. I have enough knowledge about video games to know when they're talking ish.

BioshockOwnz covered what I was going to say so I'll just add to that:

  • Millions of jobs will be lost if gaming goes all DD.
  • How can we recover our DL'd games if our system breaks (Sony/Microsoft will probaly be too greedy to let use download twice)

Good thing with Steam you can make physical copies of the games you purchased through DD. It's a win-win for myself, as well as many others.

Here is why you are wrong:

Eliminating the used game business means that publishers will have more incentive to to make shorter games with less content and less replay value and then charge you whatever they want for them.

You can't rent a digital download. You'll never have th option to rent a game ever again if we went all digital.

Bluray disks barely scatch so that point is moot.

Not everyone has high speed internet and those who do may not want to bog down their service downloading games.

What's to stop a company from charging more for for propritary storage mediums? MS for example charges $100 for a 60 GB HD for the 360. One game like MGS4 or lost odyssey would fill that whole thing.

Some people actually like having physical copies of the games they download. How are you going to put a digital download under the Cristmas tree?

Digital downloas are good for small games or low quality music and video files. For everything else physical storage is the way to go.

It's good from a business standpoint. I mean you essentially kill off the used market, you have no physical disk to make, saving millions in the long run AND you can still charge the same though i'm sure it costs a LOT less to distribute data. I'm worried about DRM and milking us consumers.

You can only recover your downloaded games once a year, right? That's how it was when I had to get a new 360 last winter. Which is completely lame, I might add.

I know that this wasn't directed at me, but since this is also my main reason for taking physical media over DD. Call me old fashioned, but I still want something tangible for the money I spend. This is also why I buy dvds rather then rent or use Netflix. Also I do get a bit of satisfaction over seeing a large library of games that I would not get from saying "I have 57 games downloaded on my harddrive." One thing very few people mention about DD is price. Now I know a lot of people say, "It can be cheaper because of no need for box, manual, shipping, retail space etc... but that hasn't happened yet has it? The downloadable PSP games like Patapon 2 are the same price. Also, I don't see too many PSN, XBLA, or VS sales, but I see Best Buy, Target and TRU sales every week letting me buy games cheaper than MSRP. Or what about that $10 copy of Mass Effect I bought because the store had it on clearance? These things are not happening with DD games, at least from the big 3.

Digital Distribution is better at draining your wallet.

  1. A better internet connection must be purchased for games won't take foever to get to you.
  2. A large expensive hardrive must be purchased to hold the games.
  3. Get ripped off by monopoly because games remain at inflated prices longer due to lower amount of competition.
  4. You get no instructions for games.
  5. You can no longer rent, sell or buy used games.
  6. Digital Distributers can take games from you when ever they feel like it.
  7. You loose your games with your console.

You can download 'em as many times as you want to the same console, but you can only transfer the game licenses once a year to 360, which means if you've got a Best Buy PRP and use it more than once a year when your 360 gets the RROD, you have to hassle MS's support to unlock your games again.

Sounds like most people's problems with Digital Disribution isn't the format or means of distribution but fear of corporate abuse.

DRM can be put on a physical CD btw.

Reasons why Digital Disribution Wins

-Doesn't take up space - with consoles, it takes up HDD space instead

-No need for a loud disk drive - it really isnt that loud unless you play with no sound (but why would you do that?)

-All of your games are neatly stored - is there something that stops people from neatly storing their physical media?

-No need for used/new games - no renting games either... big FAIL

-We can drive those nazi's Gamestop out of buisness or at least force them to change their evil nazi esque ways

However lets be fair and also count the benefits of physical storage.

Reasons why A physical game CD/Cartridge wins

-Games will become scratched and dirty over time eventually becoming good for nothing more than coasters - never had that problem... do you use your disks as cup coasters?

-Former freinds can borrow them and never give them back - lol! you must have bad friends

-Stickers, plastic wrap and other useless things are awesome - indeed. i do like the smell of a new videogame

-Do you enjoy paying more for what a publisher calls a "collector's edition"? That consists of nothing more than the regular game and a wortheless art book/plastic figurine? Then physical formats are for you - i dont believe i was ever forced to buy a collector's edition of any game

-Enjoy a increasingly large and unmangable libary of game cases that will eventuall topple and kill you - yup, almost happened to me... TWICE!

-Can be fashioned into a shuriken for those pesky suprise ninja attacks - the ninjas around my neighborhood are pretty nice... they at least warn you of a imminent attack

They can last a loooooooong time if you take proper care of them, like keeping them in the box instead of throwing them on the floor.

They take up space on the harddrive. which means you'll have to uninstall eventually. (and redownload if you want to play again) I can store a disc pretty neatly too. are you a slob or something? Why wouldn't i want used and game rentals? these are good options. heck with DD i can't even lend the game to a friend. I'd rather be in control of the stuff i by. Gamestop is fine. if you think they are ripping you off don't buy from them. easy as that.

Why would just my cases and manuals catch fire? It would probably be a house fire, in which case everything would be toast, including your hard drive.
