Xbox One and PS4 Getting 1080p Divinity: Original Sin, PC Version Also Being Upgraded
Sigh eddie and his clickbait titles. I think the guy eats pixel for breakfast. Anyways, full story below.
Following Divinity: Original Sin's celebrated launch last year for PC--it was GameSpot's overall PC Game of the Year--developer Larian Studios on Friday announced that the turn-based role-playing game is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 by way of an Enhanced Edition.
The Enhanced Edition is described as a "full makeover" of the original game--which has sold nearly 1 million copies--featuring a "truckload" of changes, creative director Swen Vincke tells GameSpot.
Among the changes are a new interface designed specifically for controllers, as well as co-op play in the form of online and split-screen locally. Meanwhile, full voice acting has been added--featuring actors Alix Wilton Regan and Alec Newman--and more endings have been introduced.
"We went a little too overboard with it; we called it an Enhanced Edition, but I really think that we made it much more than enhanced," Vincke said.
In terms of visuals, Vincke tells GameSpot that the Xbox One and PS4 editions are aiming to run at full 1080p.
Divinity's new console edition also adds "hours" of new content by way of new quests, giving players new locations to explore and challenges to take on. New endings have also been added, Vincke says.
In addition, the Enhanced Edition will come with changes to the crafting system, variations to enemy encounters that should make the game more difficult overall, and storyline tweaks to make the game feel fresh for people who already played it.
"We were a little bit unhappy with some of the compromises we made on the narrative side of things, so we're just going to take the opportunity to change everything," Vincke says. "The ending wasn't that rewarding, so we added a lot to it. On the endings side, we really added a lot."
The Enhanced Edition's online co-op mode, which Vincke says you really have to play to understand, supports online play. However, there won't be matchmaking support, at least not right away. "We haven't cracked that particular piece of the code yet," Vincke said.
In addition, Larian has announced that the Enhanced Edition is also coming to PC, Mac, and SteamOS as a free upgrade for existing players. Vincke points out that gamers will need a 64-bit rig (compared to 32-bit for the original) with DirectX 11 to run the Enhanced Edition. Full system requirements will be announced later.
The Enhanced Edition is due out later this year for all platforms, but Larian has not announced a firm release date.
Finally, Vincke told GameSpot that the massive success of Original Sin--which was originally funded on Kickstarter--was a "huge turning point" for Larian overall. Looking to the future, he confirmed that Larian has multiple projects in the works, the first of which might be announced this year.
"It allowed us to do a lot of things we couldn't have done before. And we're doing those now," he explained. "We're experimenting a lot. We have two RPGs in production, which we're not just ready to announce yet, but hopefully we'll talk about at least one later this year."
Vincke also said he sees the turn-based RPG genre making a comeback, with plenty of room for further growth. "It's a genre that has a lot of potential where you can still do a lot of things that haven't been done before," he said.
At least it wasn't designed for control pad at the start like the massively misleading and disappointing Wasteland 2. i.e. simplstic Xcom combat... over and over and over and over Zzzzz.
I wonder how many copies it will actually sell considering the kind of "cinematic" games most console gamers tend to like.

I'd be very surprised if this (or Wasteland 2) sell well on consoles. The marketing tend to be big budget Micheal Bay style games - all visuals.
Considering it took 2 months to sell 500k on PC, this dev will love the console sales I bet. Which will probably sell that amount faster on the PS4 alone.

You seem to be bunching up popular console genres with popular pc genres. Divinity 2 was released on ALL platforms, Original Sin outsold it on one platform, namely the pc.
Good news for Console gamers since it's a great game but it also means that their upcoming games will be dumbed down.
This isn't the first time a Divinity game has been ported to consoles, and Original Sin wasn't dumbed down because of past ports. I don't think people need to worry just yet, especially if they continue in this way of releasing the PC version first and then modifying it for consoles later.

I hope you are right but I find that hard to believe. We'll see.
Awesome news. I've played a bit of this game and enjoyed it, but got busy and stopped, so it'll be nice to go back once the enhanced edition is released. I'll be quite interested to see how the gamepad controls turn out. I know it sounds blasphemous to PC gamers but I wouldn't mind having the option to play using a controller when I want to lean back in my chair.

Wrong, Divinity 2 only released on Windows, X360 & Cloud. You made up that last sales part up.

Great news! The more people who can play this the better. Was hoping to hear some expansion or DLC news soon. Sucks Wii-U won't get it. Gamepad would be perfect for the interface. Hopefully DX11 makes it run better too. Can't wait to hear more about this and what they're unveiling at E3.

EDIT:
Lists of major improvements
All characters are now fully voiced by AAA-voice actors
New quests, new characters, and new content
Entirely new gameplay modes and character builds
A heavily rewritten story with a brand new ending
Massively reworked visuals and sound effects
And much more to be announced in the coming months
In what way could they possibly dumb their games down? Turn based games have been on consoles forever though they don't seem to be popular anymore. What part of D:OS could they dumb down? The gameplay is simple, the game mechanics are easy to understand and the dialogues aren't very demanding.
Unless you mean they would make their games easier though they have already said the enhanced edition will be more challenging. Not sure what you're getting at here.
@anthonyautumns: first of all playing a RTS/CPRG with a controller is like playing a fighting game like Mortal Kombat with keyboard , maybe you're fine with it but I'm not 2nd Console games should be designed with consoles in mind. trying to shoehorn PC gameplay onto consoles, or vice versa, results in a gameplay that doesn't please anyone ... let's not forget how crappy dragon age : origin was when Bioware ported the game to consoels

CRPG's have been on consoles since they were invented. I was playing CRPG's with controller on SNES long before 'the master race' even had a half decent game of ANY description to play and yes I owned a PC at that time. Lost Odyssey on 360 is no different mechanically to D:OS and it played just fine.
Turned based games are not the sole domain of PC's, they never were. Much as I loved Divinity OS on PC I am looking forward to playing it on PS4 as well with whatever enhancements they come up with. Hopefully they nail the interface and get it all right so we can have choice of platform for their future games.

Just because a game is turned based doesn't mean it won't be dumbed down for a controller. Compare Civilization 4 with Civilization revolution on Consoles. There is a reason why Consoles don't get games like Galactic Civilization and Endless Legends. Browsing through a lot of menus with a controller is a nightmare. Computer RPGs don't play like Final Fantasy games.

I don't think you can compare Galactic Civ to any CRPG it's far more complex with a zillion different menus. Divinity isn't that complex at all they just need a good UI to traverse the menus and inventory and it will be fine. Dumbed down usually means made easy or lots of stuff taken out there is absolutely no need to do either for Divinity IMO.
Some people may still prefer to play it on PC with mouse and keyboard which is absolutely fine but there is no reason console players should miss out on anything with this or their future titles.
Cows scream about Indies every day here but this game will probably sell 3 copies on PS4... They'd only care about it if it was "free" on PS+. Then they'd brag about PS+ being the best thing since the sliced bread.

You had to fight the inventory itself even when playing the game on Mouse and Keyboard. Now imagine that on a controller. Not to mention selecting different characters again and again for using their different abilities in real time to defuse bombs, move crates, crafting, checking stats of dozens of weapons, sending items to partner's inventory etc.
The game offered 30 slots for quick selection of different character abilities and even that wasn't enough for my Witch. I am getting this feeling that the game is going to play completely differently. Yes, changing UI may help a bit but let's not ignore the fact that a lot of games were dumbed down in the past.
I wonder how many copies it will actually sell considering the kind of "cinematic" games most console gamers tend to like.

It sold more than 830,000 copies on steam alone and almost half that on gog. So more than a million copies. Thanks for lying I guess ?
And if you really think it's gonna even crack a quarter of a million on consoles you are delusional. This simply isn't the kind of game console kiddies have the patience to play.

Hey thanks for the link. Very useful. Their data seems pretty accurate. Their data is exactly the same as the official announcements from Cities: Skylines, DayZ and H1Z1 devs. Damn, 5 out of 7 million sales of Witcher franchise are from Steam alone. Then there is GOG version too. Really impressive.

It's as credable a VG charts, because they gather data from "a limited number of users" then estimate. I'm not desputing the numbers though, that probably is about right.
THHO. Really. Best game of last year for me, and best pc exclusive that isn't exclusive anymore.

Multiple small devs have already said that their numbers are correct. And has said, when H1Z1 and Skylines hit 1M and the devs made an announcement. Steamspy was only off by a couple of thousands. Very accurate tool. Same API has Arstechnica.
