[QUOTE="whiskeystrike"][QUOTE="caseypayne69"]Only thing female characters are good for are 3rd person games so I can check her out and nude patches again so I can check her out.. When I'm playing a game I want to believe I'm that person. Spiderman, Mario, Link, John Marshall, Nico B, Agent 47. I don't feel connected playing a girl because "wait for it" I'm not a girl.Frostbite24
So you feel connected to murderers?
Is that a problem for you? Don't be a bigot. How am I being a bigot? All I asked is a question. Claiming a lack of connection because he isn't something is odd.
I hate it when they are cheesy... that's an understatement, I hate all things cheesy and cheap. There's cheesy and cool or cheesy and bad, so bad that it's funny and becomes good.
No? I guess... I have very little experience with playing with female characters though - mostly fighting games and first person arena shooters (Quake 3, Unreal Tournaments).
For better or for worse, the games that feature strong or at least recognizable female lead characters usually tend to belong to genres that do not interest me that much (adventures, action adventures,...).
That said, if I have a chance to pick between male and female protagonist (RPGs), I go for a male one. Just feels more natural to me.
One thing I may have a small problem with, are the articles that are trying to "pressure" the developers into incorporating more famale characters in videogames either by strongly criticizing them for their reasons for not having one or by calling them out to have one (it's time for developers to... !). Gamespot occasionally has articles like that.
But that has more to do with me no liking the idea of some journalists dictating the developers (and publishers) what to do (or not to do) rather than me being against stronger presence of female characters in lead roles in videogames. Â

Did you really think I wasn't joking about you being a bigot toward a potential murderer? Sarcasm isn't that hard to detect on the internet, is it?[QUOTE="whiskeystrike"][QUOTE="Frostbite24"] Is that a problem for you? Don't be a bigot.Frostbite24

Now I know why my posts get taken so seriously without a dozen smileys.
That Morris guy is a moron. Him, like Hamburger Hepler among others, are a big part of the reason these "changes" meet so much friction in games.
With that said I loved Heart of the Swarm so no, I most definitely don't have a problem with female lead characters.

C'est la vie and the internet mate.Inferring that a woman in the kitchen and bedroom isn't a hero or a fantasy to some.Yes because a woman's place is in the kitchen and bedroom, not being some fantasy hero. :D

Very. Not at all, in fact a strong female lead is better than most of the meatheads we play as now. I think theirs a huge section of the Mass Effect fan base who think Femshep improves the game as a whole, and I would be inclined to agree. Not because ass, but because the voice actress makes the character better because of it.darkspineslayerlol@ meatheads

True.It doesn't bother me, but I'm a black male so I pretty much never get the opportunity to play as characters that in my demographic. Playing as a female or the usual white dude is about the same.Senor_Kami
Thats a good point actually.
I'm betting there are just as many,if not more, black males that play videogames as there are females, yet theres never really been the same push for black leads as there has been for female ones.

Neither additions can significantly improve any of the elements a game is made of.
It's just that feminism supporters like to creep into anything that doesn't outright favor women. Of course that is as long as they can do it from behind their screen while sitting on their chair at home; supporting sex equality by doing something meaningful is obviously too much effort for them.
Other race groups on the other hand aren't nearly as butthurt about this kind of thing.

Damn, I misspelled it. :xAs video games mirror reality more and more, it only seems logical to "steer" through a video game as a character of any race, sex, etc.Â

If you get through point "a" to point "b" and you enjoy everyother element, it's fine. Perfectly normal.
I just finish getting All Resident Evils on the Gamecube and I just realized that 5 of them feature a playable Female Protaganist while only 1 just lets you play as a male.
And I have no problem with this at all.
If my experience with Fire Emblem: Awakening is any indication, I should stay away from otomes. Felt very awkward doing most, if not all, of the Avatar(F) x _____ S supports. With that in mind, I can somewhat understand why publishers wouldn't be 100% accepting of female leads depending on what they do.
Games in general though? No.
My first choice is female leads, but if a character is well written and the story engaging, I don't mind the gender. When given the choice, such as in an RPG, I go female.
Problem with female leads? No. What does bug me though, is when developpers try and make females into these show-boating badasses; "im just as tough as any guy" type mentality that bothers me. If you say your as tough as a guy, let him deck you in the face. If you can take it, then i have NO problem with you saying your tough.
As long as the character is well developed I don't see the problem. If it feels forced though because "more women ought to be lead characters" well that might just be a problem. Lara Croft, Samus, etc that's all good.
No... Female leads done right can make a story driven games experience much more interesting because a females perspective can often be much different from a males. The Longest Journey and Dreamfall are great examples of games that really benefitted from female leads, and I've heard good things about Syberia.
