No. Some of the best characters the industry has ever produced are women.Â
But personally, as long as the character is interesting and well-drawn, I don't care about their sex.

Kat is awesome! :)
One of my top 5 characters this generation ;)
This is why im not a fan of females like this in movies/tv/video games because it doesn't seem believable. I think Xena Warrior Princess/Lucy Lawless is the best female hero in any form of media.Problem with female leads? No. What does bug me though, is when developpers try and make females into these show-boating badasses; "im just as tough as any guy" type mentality that bothers me. If you say your as tough as a guy, let him deck you in the face. If you can take it, then i have NO problem with you saying your tough.

No, no problem at all.
But to be picky, I was never a fan of Lara Croft or Beyonetta that much... something about their attitudes that just doesn't do it for me. In other cases, I absolutely enjoyed playing as Jade in Beyond Good & Evil. Also, just seeing a female slay dragons in Skyrim just seems alot more badass than the males. If I'll start playing Mass Effect one day, I will probably be playing as a female Shepard.

Ashe is the lead in FFXII but I suppose he's making a joke at Vaan's looks.

But it was an intentional joke or was a mistake by IGN?
If it was intended as a joke than my respect for IGN just went a little up
Vaan had horrible design

It was an intended joke lolSimply put...males are just more popular or marketing does a terrible job with females. https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/1625_440849272657128_1725783387_n.jpg So much so where the clearly inferior male voice acted male is far more played than the female voiced by a legend of a voice actress for ME3.texasgoldrush
I'll just copy-pasta a response I made in a similar thread that can explain why that happens
The reason while I (and many others I'm sure) prefer to play as male characters is because I like to "see" myself on the protagonist skin. If I'm playing as a female or someone with a different etnicity than mine that "transition" will be harder, or even not possible in some cases. To immerse myself in a world I like to feel I'm in that world.
Now, as I said, I wouldnt keep myself from playing a good game because of the protagonist sex (In fact I loved Bayonetta, Heavenly Sword, Tomb Raider, etc) but if I have an option I sure will chose a white male, preferably.
This has nothing to do with sexism. Just preference.

No, they idiotically bull rush the game without exploring it, playing it like another Gears of War shooter. The reason while I (and many others I'm sure) prefer to play as male characters is because I like to "see" myself on the protagonist skin. Too bad the voice actress for ME2 sucked so terribly bad that everyone with a clue of what they were doing swapped to male shepard as soon as they got bored of her, which for most equates to leaving the station you are resurrected on.
i dont have a 'problem' with them, but at the same time i dont see the need or even want to having one... would add absolutely nothing to the experiencecampzormale/female/alien/wesley snipes, who cares as long as the game is good.
women belong in the kitchen, not being lead characters in games. sidekicks at best lmmfaoAD216i really hope you're not being serious. if you are then you're an idiot

You mean like it's meant to be played, since starting with ME2 bioware removed all the exploration? lol
So rush the game and get the worst ending......because thats how James and Liara can die. A 64% survival rate of Liara shows gamers rushing the game.you mean the defining role of the most prolific voice acress in gaming history?texasgoldrush

Lolwut.
I completed every sidequest I could get my hands on and none of my companions died. Try harder.
Apparently 82% of players used a male shepard in ME.. so maybe publishers do know what they are talking about.

Where did you get that number? I never would have guessed with all the people dick riding(so to speak) fem shep lol.
I don't have a problem with it though. I don't feel it's herp derp absolutely necessary, but it's a nice change of pace every so often. It really fit the tone with mirrors edge, and that's what I care about in the end. If it's not conceivable, or they're annoying, it can get on my nerves. Otherwise, I'm fine with it. See Ellen Ripley for a reference and/or debate ender.

Ah...interesting. I'm sure that people not invested in the series (casuals, renters, etc) had something to do with that, especially since the soldier class was the most played, but I guess facts are facts.
