Lol non gaming.

Just another wankfest for nerdy computer weirdos. I'll continue to play on consoles because I'm a socially inclined individual.

[QUOTE="Monkey_N1nga"]First thing to do is try the tutorial. I haven't played the game in a while, just did so today, and I don't know if this was recently added or what but DOTA 2 actually has a pretty comprehensive, well-made tutorial for players completely new to MOBAs. It's certainly better than LoL's, if LoL's is still the same as it has ever been. From there you can play custom games against bots to practice mechanics. thats exactly what I needed, thanks for the info on the tutorial. Thats the first thing im going to do when its done downloading. I just hope I dont get addictedi dont want to play against online players right away since im new to the genre and i heard it has a steep learning curve so does anybody know if you can play against bots? Also i heard that people paid for the game, but i got it from steam for free.Â

Okay, how about this. I find LoL more difficult than DotA.:?

How so? Summoner spells?
I'd give it a 7 cause of the community. If they'd allow for casual games I'd give it an 8.5.
My other main concern is how the item system is kinda convoluted.
I wouldn't say the item system is convoluted it just takes a bit of time to get used to. Dota 2 is a difficult game in general and I would almost recommend not going in and playing 50 games in a row. You almost have to play a game or two and then go read/watch videos. A lot of the games complexity lies in the 100 + different heroes and their abilities, until you figure those out the game will be difficult. The items aren't as big of a deal, play the game and buy the suggested items at first and once you get used to the heroes, their strenghts/weaknesses you can then buy items tailored around those.I'd give it a 7 cause of the community. If they'd allow for casual games I'd give it an 8.5.

I'd rather play Warcraft 3.
I played DOTA2 before and I fairly understand what's going on. But in the end, it's goddamn boring to have to waste time with the dumb "last-hit" requisite. I really can't believe how people are wasting an upwards of 45 minutes to a whole hour per match just clicking in and out of a group of enemies. I'd rather take direct control of my character and direct control over its attacks, swings, magic and soforth. Dumbing down everything to a single click defines PC gaming lately.

Posts like this and just about everything is pure ignorance and honestly pathetic. Most of you don't have a clue.
You can't bash this game much at all, you can only say that it isn't for you.Â
I just played this game for the first time on Steam and I don't get it. I'm leveling up and buying sh*t at the shop that is recommended ,but players on the other team can kill me with 2 shots, whereas I have to hack away forever to kill. What am I doing wrong?
Watch Youtube videos and read guides on the Internet. If you buy items recommended by the developers you won't get too far. Remember to last hit (unless there is a carry on your lane), deny your minions, watch the minimap, jungle if you can, buy courier and wards if you are support, and the most important stuff: communicate with your team and work as a team.I just played this game for the first time on Steam and I don't get it. And use the in-game guides! I can't stress this enough, it'll make the game so much easier for you. It's the book icon on the top part of your screen. It'll tell you what to buy and when, what to level, what each of your abilities do, what your hero is good for, etc.
It makes the game much easier to get into.
Play through the tutorial guys. It's there for a reason. Don't just jump into a match and assume that you'll just get it. You won't.
Edit: Also, when you die don't just wait to respawn and go and do the same thing over again. Everytime you die, it's for a reason. Don't blame gimmicks or other players. Either you made a mistake or you allowed the other team to create a advantage. If you're out pushing a lane by yourself and then all of a sudden two people show up and just stomp you think of why they were able to do so. Were you watching the minimap and noticed part of the enemy team missing? Were you out pushing past the river so they had easy access to get behind you? Were you carrying a teleport stone to get out quickly? Did anyone on your team ward specific choke points to gain map vision? DotA 2 is not a mindless multiplayer game. This isn't the game you play to relax you after a long day of work. If you treat it as such starting out you will lose a lot of matches or contribute almost nothing to your team's win.

Self owned. You just admitted that you haven't played enough of it to understand the mechanics. Last hitting is important, and probably the skill that scales the most through brackets since noobs don't have a clue how to last hit and higher skilled players know exactly how each hero's animation is and how it interacts with the creep. But you don't seem to have realized that last hitting is a means to an end, ideally a carry should have their core done prior to the 20 minute mark, and from then on you're right clicking heroes, not creeps. If you think Strategy games have any sort of "dumbing down" involved then you are seriously mistaken.I'd rather play Warcraft 3.

I'd say last hitting is equally important to positioning. I'd much rather have a ranged carry who has done meh so far but stays alive in team fights rather than the well farmed guy who only gets a few hits off in team fight and then just dies.

Let me nip it in the bud. "circumstantial"... Learn what it means. It relies on an inference, not an absolute.
At the end of the day, you have  failed  to prove that these games do not count. Like I said, ask a mod... Or admin, if you'd like.
senses_fail_06
if you're playing the metagame, it absolutely counts. if not, it's whatever you want since there's anarchy. this is what the forum community decided and nobody would know this better than me.
Based on what? When? Not only do I not remember any of these discussions, I certainly don't think a decision was ever reached. What was even the game that would have brought up the topic? Not a lot of F2p AAA games before this one (if any? ).That's because you joined after the discussions on how the rules would work were held. Do you think people just stuck the rules up there for no reason? That shit isn't just something that gets ignored as much as you wish it was, it's the metric for our little metagame that was decided by the community. Don't like it? Don't play. Don't talk about ownage or AAAE's or what does and does not count because you aren't a part of any of it.I really need to get back to this. I only played the tutorial. But for some reason I have this mental block in trying to start games like Dota 2 or Starcraft 2 online.PannicAtackFor some reason I find more easy to start a Dota 2 match instead of SC2 solo match. SC2 usually is too stressful. [QUOTE="parkurtommo"] Hey as long as you're doing decently against the people in your skill bracket, no need to be concerned with the amount of experience you have. :P Gonna say average. Usually I can handle well my lane but if a carry on the other team is fed, well, the problem starts.
There is a game mode called Limited Heroes. The pool consists of the heroes that are best suited for new people. For me, Sniper is a hero that can be used easily by anyone. The only problem is that he lacks any escape mechanism but as a ranged hero he has good range (that can be upgraded), a passive stun, a great ult.which heroes are the best to play as?

If you're looking for fairly easy to play heroes that are still useful even if you don't get much farm, I'd recommend Skeleton King or Dragon Knight. Both are really tanky and are one of the easier heroes to get used to. Most of the ranged heroes are harder though, Luna I guess is an easy hero for ranged but she's not really that good.
I started playing as Razor as my first hero...yeah...don't do that :P.Â

Just make sure you buy Shadowblade :P.
Probably one of my favorite games of all time, been playing dota since 2004, absolutely amazing game and I am so happy people know about now more than ever. Â It is the most addicting, rewarding game there ever is.
It's all personal preference. However if you are new to MOBA I would recommend a support hero like Lich or Venomancer. They are simple to play and if you are horrible you won't ruin the game for your team. Just remember as a support your job isn't to buy as many items as you can, they don't benefit you that much. Supports are generally good just using their spells and should spend their gold on team support items like Mekansm, Pipe of Insight, Medallion of Courage, Sentry/Observer Wards etc. Once you get better at the game and you understand the nuances you should try some of the ganking/offlane heroes. The guy who recommended Sniper is right in that he's pretty simple to use, but he's a trash can hero. He has no escape, is very squishy and only does decent damage with several items - I wouldn't recommend playing agility carries as a new player.which heroes are the best to play as?
