Maybe Microsoft should make more of an effort in making the XBOX brand feel less like "an american product for americans" then.

Apple is huge in Japan. Other western brands break through, why is XBOX suddenly the sad victim of discrimination? The simplest explanation is that they have a brand issue. A problem with how people percieve their product. Its 100% 'MURICA. The Madden, ESPN shoot'emintheface Box.

Apple is huge because they are #1 in the World at music players. Also they don't make a games console do they. Another thing MS tried really hard on the Xbox 360 and it didn't sell as high as other parts of the world despite having lots of Japanese games.

Honestly if you wanted to call out a country for gaming bias, it'd be the US. They're buying a console that's an afterthought almost everywhere else, because 'Murica. MediaCreate weekly numbers just drive the point home more for Japan than, say, Poland.

@santoron: To be fair not even the mighty PS4 is doing good in Japan, Wii U is kicking its butt. Its not so easy to cater to Japan and the rest of the world. Nintendo does it, but they have payed the price for doing so. Sure they get some good games here and there, but they miss out on "American" games.

Not necessarily. I think it has more to do with how much the 360 advanced the Xbox brand in the US. And that had a lot to do with the PS3's issues and the 360 being well balanced for a good chunk of the gen (good price, good game selection, good online service, etc) rather than patriotism.

Also they miss out on 3rd party support. I hope Nintendo gets back to bringing all types of games like they once did with the NX.

Kicking it's butt, might be a bit strong, but it's definitely done well. The huge number of popular Japanese franchises announced for the PS4 would likely have turned things around in a hurry, but since the WiiU is about to bow out, we will never know...

I think it's fair to say that Nintendo has done the better job of keeping a regular stream of content that appeals to the JP market than Sony did last gen and to start this one. But it should be apparent by now that Sony and JP 3rd parties are putting a huge push to reverse that trend. I just wonder if the damage hasn't already been done with the market's shift to mobile.

Very true, its all depends on whether NX will replace Wii U or stand beside it. Im thinking it will stand beside the Wii U and use the Wii U's Gamepad. The Wii U can still make it past 20 million when this is all said and done and i think thats Nintendos goal, to create a system that uses the Wii U and the N3DS. All they got to do is price drop Wii U and sales will pick up. But even if NX lays the Wii U to rest, ill still be happy with it, its fighting and thats what counts.

Not sure which DQ game to get. Both the 3DS and PS4 versions look great. Maybe both. :P

I haven't read up on any details but are they different in rather substantial ways? Is it just camera, second screen 2D, and of course graphics that are different on 3DS? Did we not get enough info on that?

@AznbkdX: They have the same story and all, but they will have different looks and stuff. So far i know the 3DS version can switch from 3D to 2D mode on the fly, but thats all i know for now. There is a good video that shows it somewhere in here or on the internet. I also posted a thread in Nintendo Forums.

The PS4 version looks very nice also, but im not sure what all else it will have going on, i didnt really watch the video for it much.

You choose xbox for a community of gamers who love dudebro shooters and some American pride isolationists idealism against Japanese. If you ally yourself with and fall in a group of gamers who are close minded and do nothing but slander games from the country we are talking about, you shouldn't be surprised or question when the Japanese don't mercifully grace your platform with their best franchises.

If you chose xbox, you were signing up to have less Japanese support from the start so there is no surprise here for you especially since, according to lems, "Japan doesn't matter" and you guys don't like "weaboo trash".

I wanted Japanese support so I bought a PS4, and man does DQ XI looks fantastic, worth the investment. :) Don't get out of character, remember all you need is Halo and Gears to tide you over.

The word is traditional. Generic is such a favourless expression for a series with such a specific charm

I've been told the team will consider bringing DQ XI to the West as we've done in the past for other DQ games but I don't know anything else

We'll most likely hear about the localization at Sony's conference 2016 E3

What's the irony? He likes Destiny, and he likes Japanese games as well. He has never actually come out and disparaged western games or shooters, or any such thing, which would be necessary for your post to hold any water.

Disliking a single game or franchise like halo (which i highly dislike and has nothing to do with what system its on, i have a 360, tried halo once and did not want to touch it again) is NOT like disliking AND bad mouthing an entire genre like JRPGs.

Apple don't make consoles, but their iPhone is arguably the most popular gaming platform in Japan today, more so than any domestic Japanese gaming platform, console or mobile. And it's not like it was easy for Apple either, but it took years of struggling to become the market leader in the very competitive Japanese mobile market.

Yes you are wrong. Those games you are refering to are niche games that are meant to appeal to the most hardcore otaku. Not all japanese games are designed to appeal to the otaku, in fact just a small portion of them are and most of them are Vita games.
