Actually, LucasArts owns KOTOR as it is a Star Wars product. Bioware only did the originaly, anyway, Obsidian did the second. So no, EA will not control the IP.
But this is a sad, sad day. Bioware is, or I should now say was, one of my favorite developers. I guess we just now wait and see who is next to step up with a great game, makes a name for themselves, gets bought, and then fizzles away.
[QUOTE="mingo123"]lmao Mass Effect for ps3, pc and wii confirmeddeangallop
MGS is the publisher so no not really.
They could get someone else to publish the PS3 version, MS doesnt OWN te franchise they just publish the game so if EA wanted to they could make a PS3 version.
OMG.........EA is the Anti-Christ, the end is soonThanatos465
No **** I **** hate EA. They buy developers who make good games, force them to release a "new", aka rushed game every six months until the original IP is nothing but a joke and then move on to the next victim. This is the reason I refuse to buy EA games. Sega made better football games IMO, and as soon as they released their games for an affordable price, EA signs an exclusivity deal with the NFL and NCAA. I played the new Simpson's demo and there were even EA logos on billboards in the town. I mean come on, EA, I get it, it's an EA game. God I hate EA.**** you EA.
I dont get it, nobody plays those sort of games any more, WRPGs are too hardcore and in this industry dominated by Wii, theyde be much better of releasing minigame collections
In other words, GAMING IS DEAD and its all due to Nintendo

Dude thats actually worse, that means NO KOTOR game from BioWare!!!:cry:can't EA buy the publishg rights for ME back? Or else how are they going to make M2/3 since it was supposed to be a thrilogy. Or will MS develop ME 2/4 ?RedMarzBoy
EA doesn't have to publish BioWare's games. They will just get first rights to it. Of course, it's highly unlikely that any game BioWare makes other than Mass Effect will NOT be published by EA.
The fatalism of the board again doesn't disappoint. Why don't we wait till we actually get to know how they will work before stating that they're "R.I.P." already.Panzer_Zweican you blame xbox fans for being upset? Before this Bioware was xbox exclusive mostly just like the PGR creators. And now both are multiplat developers. Even Bungie but they may remain 360 exclusive still unless they make wii/DS games. They will all still make great games im sure. Its just that xbox fans lost some bragging rights.
Someone just buy EA already, they're ruining great developers by buying them out and destroying them with their work ethics.
Hopefully EA supports their new games, then I might give them a small bit of credit.
Saturos3091
I hope microsoft buys them, microsoft atleast give devs time to complete games.
[QUOTE="RurouniSaiyajin"]Dear lord.
Hopefully, this ends up well and results in Bioware being able to make more greatgames with EA backing them...hopefully...

i think only 50% of that will come true, that is you will get more games but not great games
Yeah. That's the scenario I see happening too but I'm still hoping that's not the case.
Microsoft is leaving the business in 2009 confirmed. I for one welcome our new Nintendo overlords.

Yes i do because the industry only sells that crap.Sorry but you got owned, owned by Kidtendo for buying a Wii, wow what a waste, a GC for $250:(
Would you all stop over reacting, EA wants to put out more innovative games and stop the "Madden Effect". John Riccitello is the current CEO behind EA Partners, which is trying to give independant developers a leg up by providing publishing and not interfering in any of the development. They are currently publishing Rock Band and Mercenaries 2.
John Riccitello has been EA's CEO since April, and before that the leader of Elevation Partners. Y'know, the company that USED to own BioWare and Pandemic.
So chill out.

I think they'll still make great games. But they'll be creatively restricted now, unless EA makes them a special "elite" division, kinda like Will Wright and Maxis being allowed to develop Spore and the Sims.
Then EA will take their new IP, give it to one of their lesser divisions, and spam the hell out of it with sequels and add-ons. :|

I hope all the devs at bioware just form a new studio. I dont even care if they develop for the ps3 exclusively, I just dont want them to be EA :(.

It's still the same BioWare, if EA tries to hold them back they'll just leave. Which I doubt EA will do, Mr. Riccitello has the right idea.Would you all stop over reacting, EA wants to put out more innovative games and stop the "Madden Effect". they cant leave if they are owned by EA.
Yep...I'm guessing after MGS4 and FFXIII ( if those devs dont get brought by EA anytime soon) Ima quit gaming. The only ones to to tide me over in to staying are Capcom, Komani, and of course Rockstar.....if they dont get brought by EA....
Damn u EA, then they wonder why we hate them.
:( :( :(naval
this man speaks truth. but it's really just a sign of the times. as dev costs rise, risk rises. as risk rises, it becomes harder to get investors to help fund these games. so devs will allow themselves to be acquired to get extra financial security.
It's all business. Welcome to the new level of dev costs. Welcome to the new era of gaming. Studios will continue to be digested by bigger studios and publishers. Unique titles will also begin to fade away in favor of tried and true concepts (like shooters).
sad, but true.

What REALLY should piss people off is that if BioWare does make any games with online functionality, or online multiplayer, EA will force BioWare to use EA's own servers, even for Xbox Live, because of the deal EA has with Microsoft that EA hosts its OWN games on its OWN crappy servers.
Small wonder that XBL-enabled EA games are usually bashed for having some of the sort performance. EA's Live servers suck.
