Actually that doesn't prove anything at all. EDGE and GS don't review the same games. EDGE has a much more limited space to produce reviews so it is not going to review the same games that GS do. To prove that EDGE are just as 'lenient' as other publications you would have to compare the review scores of individual games, rather than the total scores the magazine releases.

Metacritic actually shows this a lot better than that graph does:

This notion that "a 3 from EDGE is like a 6 from GS" or "EDGE use the full 10 point scale, no one else does" is nonsense.

I don't. I'll be glad if the game turns out good, but ratings aren't going to show that. You never know how much nostalgia the reviewer has for a series like this.

The gameplay has looked absolutely repugnant to me since this game was first shown. Hopefully, I was incredibly mistaken.

It doesn't really matter what it looked like to you. You didn't play it, so your assessment doesn't mean all that much at this point. There have been instances where people thought a game would be bad because of how it "looked" and the critical reception turned out to be decent.

Also, the "nostalgia" damage control is old, tired, and intellectually lazy. It's simply a way of dismissing scores that one does not approve of.

And what do you mean "the ratings aren't going to show that?" What point are you trying to make? Regardless of scores, one will always have their own opinion, but the scores will show what the reviewer thought of the game. The nostalgia argument has no basis. At all.

Even if GS has 0.5 increments, they mainly judge games from 7-10, anything below is considered garbage and 7 is considered average. A 5.0 from EDGE is average, 6.0 is decent and 7.0 is good and so forth.

A 10 at Edge does not mean its going to be perfect everywhere else.

They've dished out 10's before which people dont even acknowledge.. ie Little Big Planet, Bayonetta etc.
I think LBP deserved it but Bayonetta was fun and fluid but not the best nor epic.

Not sure if I can force myself to play through to the end of Skyward Sword with the amount of great games coming out and the backlog of games.
Batman AA, Deus Ex, Dark Souls, Assassins Creed, BF3, MW3, Uncharted 3, Gears of war 3..and more.
