[QUOTE="shinrabanshou"]They give out 7's 8's and 9's in largely the same proportion as GameSpot, so no, a 5 from Edge shouldn't be considered any better than a 5 from GameSpot.

For comparative purposes, previous meta-analyses of GS and IGN are referred to. This is GS:

Also as pointed out in that thread, the assertion that review scores should average at five on a ten point scale is flawed and based on the assumption that games never go through some sort of QA process.

thank you for refuting the old argument that edge fans make
"edge magazine uses a different scale and thus cant be compared to other reviewing sites and metacritic."
im not sure if that was your intention
Actually that doesn't prove anything at all. EDGE and GS don't review the same games. EDGE has a much more limited space to produce reviews so it is not going to review the same games that GS do. To prove that EDGE are just as 'lenient' as other publications you would have to compare the review scores of individual games, rather than the total scores the magazine releases.Metacritic actually shows this a lot better than that graph does:
http://www.metacritic.com/publication/edge-magazine?filter=games (EDGE: 9.7 points lower than other critics when individual game scores are compared)
http://www.metacritic.com/publication/gamespot?filter=games (GS: 5.4 points lower than other critics when individual game scores are compared)
(GS is being annoying with linking, apologies)
